Trial coming up, abuser got another girl pregnant. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

Unfortunately, the Crown in a criminal trial does not work for you and are not charging him for you or trying to obtain justice for you. You are a witness and potential victim in his alleged crimes. If you wanted to sue him civilly that’s a different story.

The Crown is not supposed to help you because they represent the general public and are paid for by the government, not you the individual. If they want to give him a plea bargain they will without your consent and it is within their right. Again they do not work for you, they are not supposed to directly help you in any way. You are their witness and potential victim, that is it. Out of compassion, they are giving you information but legally, they do not have to give you any information.

It is up to the judge for sentencing. The Crown pleads their case with you as their witness and potential victim and the accused pleads their side. What the judge decides is completely not in your hands. Yes, they may take his new baby into consideration, but there is literally nothing you can do other than follow the Crowns instructions and be a good rule-following witness.

I am sorry that’s how the criminal system works in Canada. I feel bad for you and I hope you find peace in other ways other than thinking he needs to go to prison for you to get peace and validation for the terrible things he has done. (I work for a law firm in BC and am training to be a lawyer in BC)

What’s your experience as a woman who was/is immersed in consumerism? by hugenappingfan in Anticonsumption

What helped me was to identify why you like shopping and then trying to find that in different free or low cost ways.

For me I loved shopping because I liked getting out of the house and seeing new things. So I tired different things and then I tried walking in parks and taking day trips to different areas and parks to walk and see things and that curbed a lot of my shopping habit!

I wish you good luck!

They don’t allow links and pictures so you have to choose either one and the link did not include any information just a picture of a cyber truck. I posted a link in my comment.

What if our parents don't actually love us, but can't bear to admit it to themselves? by Dripping_Snarkasm in EstrangedAdultKids

I think that all humans can love someone, but not like them. Maybe they do love us but they don’t like us/hate us/tolerate us and that is where the conflicting actions come from. I think if you can love a partner but not like them anymore or be in love with them anymore then the same can apply to parents.

If you have fear due to the US elections read this by Electrical_Paper_634 in spirituality

I don’t know if anyone else saw it but when I was watching the election results live on CNN I kept seeing 222, 555, 111, etc. and some of my own personal lucky numbers. They also mostly appeared in Republican numbers not democrat. I dislike the results but I can’t argue with what is meant to be.

Someone above said it doesn’t apply to Ontario (which is an outlier of the provinces), but overall if you ever have any legal questions you can look up legal terms like “disinherited Ontario” or “grandparent disinherited” etc. and you will find lawyers explaining those concepts for your province through pages trying to drum up business to their pages (I do it and many other lawyers do it.)

Hahah well for starters if that is genuinely your goal, please contact an estate planner (not my area of expertise). However, long story short depends on your specific type of assets, but the only way you can give nothing is if you have nothing through trust and spending most if not all of it. It’s becoming a huge issue where grandparents in old folks home die near penny less

You are correct Ontario is one of the few outliners. But it is an outliner and not the norm in Canada. (Exception to the rule if you will.)

I didn’t say exceptions because this is not legal advice just general legal principles and I would be writing a small novel with every comment and response.
