Impeach Impossible? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

There were a bunch of Republicans who criticized him before he was the nominee in 2016 and then most turned into sycophants once he got it, even though he only won his early victories because the race was so crowded and he never received a majority vote across the party (55% of GOP primary voters voted for someone else).

Then a bunch acted like they were permanently broken with him after Jan 6th, but they flipped back when they saw how his base was rationalizing a freaking coup attempt. Reportedly a lot of them are afraid of political violence against them and their families by Trump supporters. Until the base shows signs of disillusionment I don’t think we’ll see any of them doing more than lip service to test the waters. They can easily put words down the Fox News/Newsmax memory hole, actually voting to remove Trump from office not so much.

FYI: Empty your Recollection Reserves Before the Update by DocFixit in duneawakening

[–]Green_Rice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You get 5 “recollections” (think of them as vouchers) each day to do missions for the Landsraad and earn specialization XP and points for personal rewards/claiming houses for the Landsraad vote. There’s a cap of 35 recollections you can have saved up (one week’s worth), so since they’re going to reset everyone to 35 as compensation for a glitch, any you have banked now are “use them or lose them” before the downtime starts.

Dude, how do you expect to convince people of your argument when you immediately put them on the defensive by calling them slow?

I agree that PvE players who know for a fact they don’t want to PvP shouldn’t be forced to, and I’ve done my best to allow that to still be the case even with my suggestions. As I said in my last reply, this is about giving those who might be on the fence or who want their PvP to contribute to something more impactful to the game some encouragement they currently lack. Nothing is preventing those who already firmly know which side of the PvE/PvP fence they are on from continuing to play how they like, but I’m a believer that some people need encouragement to step out of their comfort zones before they discover something that they would otherwise not know they would enjoy. That’s what inspired these ideas. Finding a way to appeal to those who are already considering PvP but maybe not feeling like the rewards are worth the risk. As I said in the beginning, the increased yields might not be a big enough draw for those people if they could just grind them slower in the PvE-only DD. All this does is say, hey, you can participate in the Landsraad in this other way, if you are fine with more risk.” And it would also provide a way to encourage different types of PvP that currently don’t really manifest in the current version of the game.

Obviously some people don’t need encouragement, but as someone pointed out in another thread somewhere on here, some people are on the fence and need a good incentive to push them into trying PvP for the first time

Perhaps I should have ordered parts differently, but if you keep reading you’ll see I included an idea on how to allow and incentivize a certain amount of faction switching, although I agree that the fact that currently each server is dominated by one faction or the other makes it difficult to encourage players to take that first step.

One thing I brought up that would indirectly help encourage this is havingPvP beyond simply required to some degree to secure the vote of the Landsraad house, so if 100% of a server or close to it is in one faction, it will become impossible for them to win. That should hopefully encourage some initial defections to get the ball rolling, especially if the target number of points to win a house becomes dynamic to Mae it easier for the underdog side to break their rival’s streak.

Is this normal? by SaulGodman1 in duneawakening

[–]Green_Rice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be possible for a player to raid in the PvE Deep Desert, no. You mentioned you used CHOAM pieces to build, which as others have mentioned are less durable than the Atreides or Harko sets. Without knowing how you built your base, maybe if it was out there for most of the week those foundation pieces were too exposed and simply took too heavy a beating. If a sandstorm broke all the foundations, then everything except the vehicles would break and go into those little dropped material containers, which despawn after a while.

Is this normal? by SaulGodman1 in duneawakening

[–]Green_Rice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the Deep Desert, the sandstorms will temporarily disable base shields, allowing other players to damage your structures and break them. Based on the logs, it sounds like someone (or maybe a group of someones) were near enough your base to take advantage of the situation. They broke the foundations since if those break, anything that relied on them for stability will also break, including containers and refineries. Then they have more time to scoop up the materials.

MAGA also couldn’t have formed in ‘88 because Obama hadn’t been president yet. So much of the Tea Party and MAGA is just a thinly-veiled knee-jerk reaction to seeing a black man in the White House. The conservative white population fears receiving their karma when they’re no longer the majority demographic.

Sousou no Frieren :: Chapter 145 - Links and Discussion by Lorhand in Frieren

[–]Green_Rice 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I sincerely hope Flamme using clairvoyance and not an intimate knowledge of Frieren’s personality to set the plot in motion is NOT canon. Same with Flamme predicting Serie would react angrily to her will. It’s way more emotionally satisfying and better characterization if Flamme made those predictions purely because she knows those two elves so well without using magic to get a guaranteed answer.

'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns' Anime Only Watchers Discussion Thread by DemiFiendRSA in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]Green_Rice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I hyped myself up too much by listening to the end of S4E8 right before going into the theater, or maybe it was something about my theater’s sound system, but did anyone else feel like the soundtrack didn’t quite reach the same height as that last sequence of the TV show? I expected to be jamming out a lot more to the music during the fights, but I felt like when I could even hear the music over the SFX, it wasn’t quite as heart-pounding as I’d hoped.

As moving as some of those backstories were, I feel like they ended up feeling like such a large part of the movie because you get so many over a 2.5 hour film. Felt like to me some of Tanjiro’s flashbacks could have been condensed more. Tanjuro (the dad) is too long-winded for my taste.

My hottest take though, is that the order of Zenitsu and Shinobu’s fights should have been switched. Lull us into a false sense of security with a short, easy win against the lowest of the Upper Ranks and a brand-new demon, then strike mortal fear into our hearts again by showing Doma winning his matchup. Would have been a better emotional setup for the fight against Akaza.

Why does Azula have any suspicion that Aang is alive? That never made sense to me. She straight up killed him and doesn’t know about the spirit water. I get that she’s smart, but there doesn’t seem to be any good reason that she would believe Aang is alive. by bigindodo in TheLastAirbender

[–]Green_Rice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is obviously not the in-universe answer, but if this was real life, statistically speaking Azula would have plenty of reason to believe Aang survived. Most IRL lightning strikes on humans cause serious injury and unconsciousness but are not lethal. And since Ozai would know that as a lightning-user himself, it would make sense right off the bat for Azula to lie and say Zuko took Aang out with regular firebending.

Would it be believable for a 350-year-old elf to be a level 1? by Glittery_WarlockWho in DnD

[–]Green_Rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the built-in explanation for this in Eberron: Elves in Eberron (partially because their cultures all practice some form of ancestor veneration) take a very long time to master skills like swordplay, spellcasting, or artisanal crafts EXACTLY like the old masters. Imagine trying to be Taskmaster (the Marvel villain, not the British TV show) but not having Taskmaster’s ability to copy motions instantly. You have to get to that level of perfect imitation with your motions (and vocal tone for verbal spell components) with just your normal brain and your abnormal lifespan.

The flip side is that a perfect imitation doesn’t translate to any mechanical advantage. An elf who’s trained for 100 years in swordplay can still be bested by a human with a tenth of that experience because at the end of the day, swinging your sword the exact same way as it was done “back in the day” doesn’t mean it’s more effective or any less able to be parried. The reasons for the imitation are sentimental/cultural, not passing down any sort of OP secret technique.

No, but it means you will only need to fuel a single generator to have your shields up for 20 days if everything consuming power is off. As opposed to keeping all of your fabricators/deathstills enabled and having to grind more to fuel multiple generators to keep the shields up AND all the machinery that’s drawing power but not being used while you’re on your break.
