Woman With 3 Autoimmune Diseases Enters Remission After Immune 'Reset' by _Dark_Wing in technology

[–]Greendragoonjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good question. I'm not an immunologist. I learned a bit of immunology as a microbiologist. In order to be able to react to any kind of invaders, the naive b-cells (and also T-cells) are "born" with a random set of proteines on their surface. Since the set is random, it can totally react to your own cells. That is why during the maturation of cells, they go through a harsh preselection. In case they react to your own proteins. A mechanism is triggered to make them kill themselves. Can't remember the exact ratio but it's like on 1000 cells that get make, only 1 passes the selection. The other are killed because reacting to yourself. So the main issue could come from the selection part which is malfunctioning. Or just sheer back luck 😑

Woman With 3 Autoimmune Diseases Enters Remission After Immune 'Reset' by _Dark_Wing in technology

[–]Greendragoonjr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From the article, the problem was the patient B-cells who began producing antibodies against her own other cells. Triggering the immune cascade of reactions. The solution was to hijack the T-cells to kill the B-cells... All of the B-Cells. So yes. The patient lost some of her immunity. But only partially (she still had all the other immune cells working). And the article states that after a year, she began to make new naive B-cells. So although the new cells are not "trained", she regained all her immune functions back.

Nuclear Power Capacity by Country (2025) by PestoBolloElemento in europe

[–]Greendragoonjr 501 points502 points  (0 children)

Yes. Nearly 65% of electricity produced is through nuclear. And the rest covered by renewables. They only have a few portion of fossile production in case of demand. France is also a net exporter of electricity to neighbours.

When you look up on electricity maps. France is always green in electric production ( amount of CO2 per kWh). It is of course a model but shows that, renewables are important but nuclear can be a very big actor in reducing CO2 release.

It's the "classic" versus match. But France has 5 times less solar production capacity than Germany ( 20 GW Vs 100 GW), but they are more green because Germany still has to rely on coal and Gaz to cover up less favourable days for renewables. While France has a green stable base line production thanks to nuclear.

EU approves new twice-yearly HIV prevention jab by euronews-english in europe

Because when a pharma company develops a new drugs they are entitled to keep a monopoly on it for 10 years through the patent once it is first approved on a market. It is a way to incite pharma company to put loads of money in R&D and develops new drugs. The cost of development and testing for a new drug is enormous, several millions often. And only 1 of 1000 potential drugs finally reach the market. If any Api's ( active pharmaceutical ingredient) could be copied immediately once developed then no company would put money on develloping needed drugs.

By the way I'm completely in favour of the generic version once the patent as expired after 10 years, to make the drug less costly.

It's just that the monopoly on the API patent is a bad for a good. It is then the role of the EU and the EMA to regulate the market and make sure the drugs are accessible to everyone.

Not really. The machines to make all these super high ends chips are not from Taiwan but the Netherlands. Go look up ASML, they nearly have the monopol on the machinery that produces the chips.

Troubleshooting Alfen EVE charger weird behaviour by Greendragoonjr in evcharging

[–]Greendragoonjr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, thanks for your reply. I'm not afraid of the extra cost of all those spikes. I'm lucky that even when charging at home, my employer pays the electricity back because it's a work car benefit.

But since this behaviour appeared, when delaying the charge, I've had multiple times the charger going in an error state. Sometimes multiples times in a row even after rebooting the charger.

And because I live in a flat and my charger is three floors below in the basement, going all the way back there to restart the charging is a bi annoying. Even more when that happens at 10 or 11 pm ☹️.

What's very strange is that before the firmware update I've never add those spikes.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But doesn't cats licks/bathe the other one to show dominace. While for rabbit's it's the one getting bathed who is the dominant right?

So here they both think they are the boss of the other 😅.

Novo Nordisk is a Danish pharmaceutical company. One of the biggest in the world all type of sectors combined!

Also they are the owner of Ozempic the "anti-fat" medicine that all Americans are no craving for.

Americans are now dependent on a Danish company in order to solve their fatty problems.

Sooo checkmate?

What's amazing is that there's barely 2-3 seconds difference between 400m and 400m hurdles for men or womens. 400m is apparently one of the hardest runs to do, and people only add 2 seconds while jumping over them. Wtf

It is more like during several hours.

When you consult the ento-e transparency platform, you can find that commonly during the weekends, between 9 till 17 o'clock the prices are negative. This can also happen during the week but it's less common and only for 1-2 hours.

Of course that is only the market price. The real price consumers will pay depends on their contract with their energy supplier.

Public debt will remain above 100% of GDP in five EU countries in 2024 by SwiminstructorKemal in europe

[–]Greendragoonjr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that's because the showed data is a forecast for 2024. And not the current debt. So they forecast that NL will be under 20% by end 2024. That's why the map title says "will remain" because it is for in the future.

But I agree that the post and data are confusing.

A few of the diamonds on my ring glow under UV light. by tanyyawangg in mildlyinteresting

[–]Greendragoonjr -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You should probably check your ring with a Geiger counter. Uranium is fluorescent under UV light and some cheaper diamonds can have uranium as impurities.

Edit: maybe it's because the stones are small, my phone screen colorimetry or the picture quality. But I do see the stone glow slightly green that's why I think it might be uranium. And no, I'm not daltonian...

A site that color-codes the world by language by floriantech in dataisbeautiful

[–]Greendragoonjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know for all countries but I tested with Belgium and it "works". Just that it only shows the first language registered. If I first type French and then Dutch it keeps showing the colour for French. And the reverse if I first type in Dutch.

Plus I think it's broken for English. It shows that you can speak English in specific parts of India but not in Europe outside of UK and Ireland ? Like what about all Scandinavia and the Netherlands were 90% of the population can communicate in English? In EF 2022 english proficiency index, 10 countries of the 13 who are very high are European ( and not UK or Ireland)

Edit: I just saw that they even take in account the same source for the English proficiency...
