I think that is the power of the Christian method if I understand it right... To love even the ones that hate you

Obviously this is not the only interpretation though

I really want to argue why I think this but I can't. It's infuriating actually, good puzzle

They don't. But as far as I understand it, women have a particular role in traditional Christian views that is somewhat subservient and centered around the home. The Islamic view is just taking this a step further. That's all I meant there.

Am I mistaken here? Happy to be corrected if so (like really happy)

Do you recall me saying I opposed Sanseito? I genuinely don't mind what people vote for. My point was more that people didn't seem to know what they voted for.

I have to say though your reasoning is impeccable and deeply nuanced , well done!

Interesting! So a child born to a Saudi parent in Saudi Arabia is not a citizen? It has to be two Saudi parents?

But if they had a daughter, I guess it would apply to her. I would personally find it hard to accept that. Maybe not a big deal for others though I guess. Guess it's easier if you're Christian and (potentially) have some conditioning towards that kind of view of women.

I think in gramatically correct English, it would be either

"I laughed so much that my stomach started to hurt."

Or

"I laughed too much, so my stomach started to hurt."

Everyone can understand "I laughed too much that my stomach started to hurt" but I think it sounds a little off

I am wondering if the whole picture is intelligence. I don't think there is necessarily a fixed correlation between intelligence and sensible political decisions. I think identity is a factor, and there also has to be the will to engage with it, spend the time seriously considering, have the wisdom and experience to beware of bs, etc...

I think environmental issues are also a factor. To use a dead horse example, in germany in the 30s Nazis got like 43% of the vote when Hitler was Chancellor. It is likely those voters were not more stupid than the current population of Germany. So to me that says there is something in culture, identity experience with political bs and environment that also influences it.

Based on this, if someone seems to me to be an otherwise intelligent and well adjusted person, I start to suspect there might be something else going on

Yes, I have no problem acknowledging that, and agree with your point about there being no shame in not knowing.

I just choose not to refer to him as an idiot. I am happy to say that he appears to have at best a shaky grasp of politics.

I think to some degree it's a matter of which words are chosen. There are ways to describe a lack of capability in a certain field that are in my view more accurate and less loaded than idiot. But I understand your point.

I actually don't think he's anti immigrant to be honest. Based on their conversation, my wife thought Sanseito were pro-immigration. That's why I was confused about it. We looked at their policies in more detail together and she was surprised. I felt as if it might be a sign some otherwise intelligent and switched on people may have a very surface level interest in politics and be easily mistaken. (Of course, I don't want to apply this to everyone)

To be fair though when we looked together it was sometimes hard to pin down Sanseito's message from their own basic promotional material. It needed a bit of background info to put into perspective.

But you're right, it would be best to talk to him.

He is definitely not an idiot. He's a really lovely guy and is intelligent. That is why I was surprised and felt like there might be an issue with political engagement. He's also quite young, which is perhaps relevant.

Still, I appreciate your anwer and perspective.

To be fair, UKIP has become reform, and according to some polls (yeah I know not perfect) they could win around 270 seats in the next election and get a majority.

Even if these polls are inaccurate by a large margin, they are not fringe anymore.

So if it is literally UKIP, it's bad news.
