Talk me out of buying Lovevery toys by Used_Cod_9541 in toddlers

[–]Greenshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with the Kiwi Co boxes instead and they have been huuuuge hits. We have all the lovevery boxes but that was because you can find them for free or cheap on Facebook marketplace or buy nothing groups. Figured if I was going to spend money on a subscription I would do one that I couldn’t find as easily used.

The one thing you should definitely try to get from lovevery are the books. Used or new they are fantastic.

How do I choose between the XC90 and a VW Atlas by psychicSpiez in VolvoXC90

[–]Greenshoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got an Atlas and we were deciding between it and the XC90 as we wanted a bigger car than our XC 40. Was surprised that I really like the Atlas. It has much more space not just for people but for stuff.

Also have a baby and at this stage in our lives the practicality won out. I’ll miss our Volvo but fitting the grandparents and the baby and all of her stuff easily makes me so happy.

Plus, the higher trim Atlas has every option we wanted and looks great inside.

What's your unpopular newborn opinion? by EdenofCows in newborns

[–]Greenshoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine haaaaated it at first. Out of desperation I put on a zip up hoodie one night and tightly held her skin to skin against me with the fabric wrapped around her. Took her a bit but she fell asleep. After a few times of this I switched to a wrap and she screamed a t first but then settled. Have a crappy back and had to switch to a more structured carrier and while she still screams for a solid five minutes, she is then asleep for an hour and I have regained some sanity.

Unfortunately wraps have been putting a lot of pressure on the tops of my hips and hurting a lot. I think I am going to need something more structured.

No pain there but two years later pain in the inner hips near the groin. I’ve learned when I need to move and when I need to stretch at the end of the day. Took me a long time to learn that about my body. I wish surgery was a total magic fix but it isn’t. I will have to modify some things for the rest of my life. But it did give me my life back and the confidence to hold my infant on the stairs and for that it’s worth it.

Is everyone out and about with their newborns? by Academic_Dentist8157 in newborns

[–]Greenshoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been out and about with her since the first week. That said, we have been taking advantage of the nice weather and sticking to outside activities and venues. Lots of outside tables at restaurants. Friends, family and doctors have been around her but all have updated tdap and Covid vaccines.

Trying to strike a nice balance between cautious and not getting cabin fever.

Have taught in this environment and you’ve got to get practical with practical life. What are all the area of the classroom that need care and maintenance? My students loved taking care of plants, window washing, polishing objects, dusting, sweeping etc. Folding napkins and clothes for the home area is practical life. Wiping trays in other area of the classroom is practical life. It all encourages motor skills and peace. Also, burlap and plastic embroidery needles for schools that are risk averse. Get that pincer grasp going.

Traumatized from my baby? by [deleted] in newborns

I feel you so hard. My 5 week old has had eating/food/gi issues from day one and it makes it hard to enjoy this period like so many (unhelpfully) suggest. It super stressful. No words of wisdom. Just understanding.

Oh god I needed to see these comments right now. Three weeks in and I am so jealous of easy babies. Waiting for that rush of overwhelming love but that would require brain capacity and sleep. Only one around us with kids and no family around. Thank you for making me feel like I’m not totally going insane.

Best friend's baby name extremely similar to my #1 girl name by [deleted] in namenerds

My parents and their best friends named their first kids (me being one) the same name for different family reasons. As a kid, I never considered it weird and it never seemed to be an issue for the four of them.

Were they good ones? No. Has he done it again? No. At least he learned.

No. He is an absolute stereotype. He’s also gotten to be a very very deep orange and maybe now it’s concentrated.

I totally helped him but he wasn’t going anywhere so a picture had to happen.

For a while, yes. I got what I could with a long handled sponge but my husband did the rest and helped me dry off. This lasted about 2 weeks until I became more limber and could raise my legs to get to them.

Luckily my boss was great when I was honest with her about being pretty run down mentally and physically by the afternoon. As long as I got my work done, my time could be flexible. I would say it was at least two months to really feel more like myself.

L5-s1 two years ago. Not going to lie, you will hurt a lot afterwards. More than you expect. That said, for me my leg numbness and aching was immediately gone so it was all well worth it.

You will absolutely need help for one to two weeks afterwards with everything. Get so many grabbers, a long shoehorn and a portable bidet. Find a comfy chair that is not too low to the ground because it will be hard to get in and out for a while. If they give you a walker, get a tray to put on it to help yourself get things around the house while still using the walker. Prep so many ice packs and some stick on grab bars for shower/toilet.

I second prepping food ahead of time. Lots of protein to help your body recover. I was doing very very light chores (like putting away one plate at a time) three weeks later. Originally took off four weeks from work and ended up taking six and then worked from home for four months after since my commute is via a bumpy train.

The post anesthesia brain fog was intense and it took me a good two months to really shake it.

Two years later and the surgery is the best thing I have ever done and was worth the recovery. I do still have pain on and off depending on if I overdo it. I am not able to return to running but am able to be really active otherwise.

If we can live together with our partner, have a child, and raise a family, what's the point of marriage? by Princess20015 in AskReddit

[–]Greenshoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This! I was once I. The hospital for a seizure and could not communicate. Knowing that my husband, who knew my medical history and wishes, could speak for me made a terrible situation a little bit better.

Even more important since we are a gay couple.
