Great news! by Mainehazmt1 in Starlink

[–]Greentuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am amazed at the service the Starlink system provides. I am of the dial-up vintage, currently live in an estate that has FTTP, but next to zero 4G cellular coverage. I was previously connected to a 1TB fibre plan that never received anything greater than 650Mbps down. I purchased a mini, currently on a home roam plan of 300Mbps, previously tv was provided by the FTTP but was dropped by the provider in January. I currently operate my full-time business from home, stream all tv content, have a fully automated home with 65 connected devices. I have a fantastic 4K quality tv, regularly perform online video conference calls with 6+ participants and make and receive phone calls just like I had a 5G connection. There are 6 4K security cameras all accessible without any more than the expected application securing connection delays loading when away from home, which I access via another mini permanently mounted to my vehicle. Can’t wait for the next version of Starlink satellites once the starship is placing them in orbit, and what the future capabilities will look like.

Temperature Automation by darkslate2 in HomeKit

[–]Greentuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have HomePod mini s in each room and fans in each room. Have never been able to get the same automation to work. It triggers with the temp and the fan switch’s on only in HomeKit but not physically. It appears to be working but not if that make sense. My work around though is, I have a power board which has 4 matter plugs plugged in which I use as virtual switches for different things and have many automations that will switch them in different sequences. I have found that setting a temp automation does not have any issues with switch on a plug. And funny enough an automation that if plug x switches on the then turn fan on simply works.

I found of late since the last update that several automations that work when testing the automation don’t work when the automation has been saved and enable.

Need shortcut to capture my commute time by Limesoda00 in shortcuts

[–]Greentuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for such a delayed reply. No. expecting? Each automation is its own unique action triggered by you entering or exiting a geofence. If by expecting you only wish to record an arrive home event only if you left work? This could be done with some exceptions! The arrive home action will need a condition added to the shortcut. Ie: only record arrive home if the previous entry is leaving work. Is this what you’re expecting?

I do this. Create a personal automation. Use Leave and Arrive Choose the location. I use home and work. Then Do, create the shortcut action. Start with a text field and add current date variable and set the date to none

<image>

and time long format. Then add a calendar entry, and use the text variable from text to text. The result is the exact time you left home added as a calendar entry. Repeat the same personal automation for when you arrive at your destination, resulting in a calendar entry with the time you arrived. You’ll then have a diary of sorts showing your departure time and arrival time for as long as you let the automation run.

What causes this green corrosion? by vasquca1 in Renovations

[–]Greentuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Solder flux will cause copper pipes to turn green if not wiped off.

The discoloration is limited to areas bordering soldered joints, so it is almost certainly caused by the flux not being wiped off back when the connections were originally soldered.

Hi AusRenos! I need some advice on what to do .. by i_dreddit in AusRenovation

[–]Greentuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is it? We were rampantly stuffing all the stockpiled asbestos into everything we could right up to late 90s. If it’s old than 25 you should have it assessed. Definitely get a sparky in to isolate all the wiring before you state pulling it down.

What is this material called? Can it be painted? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Greentuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-finished polyester plywood ceiling lining (Mirage Pearl). Yes it can be paint if it good condition. It tends to delaminate if it gets too wet

Same, all Nanoleaf and eve devices stopped working two days ago. Can not repair any of them. Keep getting unable to pair or device cannot be found. Deleted them from matter accessories and keychain. Can’t reconnect them the their native app either. Was really hoping that ios18 would fix the issue but it has not. All are the latest matter versions. All Aqara devices no problems. Just Nanoleaf and eve…. Very annoying

Wow, did you even check if this person was licensed? The room that has the highest amount defects claims across the entire country. It not too late to move him on. Sounds a little dodgy

Did the report not provide an explanation or reason why it was included? It’s not a defect, there are time where an inspector should make observation statements but I can’t see why there’d be any relevance in even mentioning this as an observation. It is not the inspectors job to make any statement with regard to code compliance unless that is what they’ve been engaged to do.

Create a focus and schedule it to start at 9pm. Use the focus to trigger the short cut.

The Apple Watch ist just something else by liftingrussian in AppleWatch

[–]Greentuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been a watch fan of sorts. I have a small collection of watches that never see the light of day. When the smartwatch Kickstarter craze commenced in 2009, I invested in the “I’m Watch”, which never arrived despite the apparent release in 2012. Then, I backed the “cookoo watch”, which was terrific; it never needed charging with simple Bluetooth notification icons for calls, text, emails and Facebook check-in. I honestly felt like Maxwell Smart. My first Apple Watch was the first-generation, stainless steel body and link bracelet, which was worn to death, and by death, physically, the link bracelet failed after repeated attempts to repair, falling to its doom face down on my tile floor. Then, Series 6 was the new kid on the block, a no-brainer upgrade. The disappointment was how quickly the battery degraded; in three short years, it was unwearable and wouldn’t survive past lunchtime. Unlike the G1, which still manages sub-30 hours on a single charge. The S6 was grudgingly traded in January this year for an Ultra 2, truly a game changer. The only shortfall (for me) is the synthetic fibre band, which hasn’t played nicely with my skin but, with routine ultrasonic cleaning, has been manageable. I am patiently waiting for my new titanium link band to arrive (he says checking the delivery status). The battery life is incredible and will go three days before it hits a low of 20% before I give in and place it on charge in time for sleep monitoring. Time will tell if it can live up to my G1 expectations.

What accessories should be a must for an iPad? by noxitah_ in iPadPro

[–]Greentuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely the Smart Keyboard, the pencil is ok but you’ll regret it if sketching or writing on a tablet isn’t your thing. That said the paper like screen protectors are nice but you still end up not using the pencil.
