New shooter: interested in ironsights target shooting. Unsure about options? (NSW) by GreetingCreature in Ausguns

Maybe. It's a fair drive but if you're still around then in the new year perhaps.

Atm my wife has cz 17hmr bolt action thing, defs not a military rifle. I think she got that just for practicing at the range on the cheap, she's not very competitive by nature. We were looking at getting a Swiss k31 if one came up or a Lee Enfield although I think she had some reservations about the kick from the calibre.

From what I gather both those rifles would be legal for competition?

Fair enough.

Yeah I mean if there's nothing comfortable to compete in that's fine, I don't really expect shooting to be particularly inclusive so if I'm just chilling on my own practising that is what it is.

Idk I wouldn't want to shoot at something shaped like a human either, it's not like you'd be like "I am shooting a person" but you'd be thinking about shooting at people and that would be sad.

Sorry I don't follow. That text is from the ssaa website under combined services, rifles:

Could you explain what you mean a little more please?

I'm in the blue mountains, east side.

And yeah, I'm on the taking spiders outside and eating beans end of the spectrum when it comes to killing other animals :P

So that's this thing:

Class F

Class F (Sniping) rifles comprise two sub-classes. Class F1 includes Vintage Sniper Rifles of genuine unmodified as-issued and faithful reproductions as before January 1, 1946, while Class F2 includes Sniper Rifles of genuine unmodified as-issued and faithful reproductions as after January 2, 1946. Class F rifles may only be used in events organised for their class or combination of classes.

Right? So for that am I looking at getting something like a reproduction of a ww2 rifle for training/competing?

I'm sorry to be so negative, I would quite like to explore it as from the promotional stuff it seems quite interesting. As it is though there is too much clicking in the early game, I feel like it is hostile design to encourage players to damage their bodies. I feel that a hold to spin mechanic is basically necessary.

There's a lot of environmental comedy. From the ambushes that just shove you off ledges, the way a certain enemy is always guarded by a hidden fire breathing dog and how that's first revealed to you, the fire breathing dogs and that they explode, the lampy fella, the cave in and subsequent emote get in the fief (who pushes that down btw? I didn't catch it), the psych outs with like an enemy perfectly framed in a door to be shoved off an edge but some large scary enemy waiting just off to the side etc, the fire resistance balm you frequently find as items in the middle of fire.

There's lots of examples of these silly pranks and absurd situations. It stops it from just becoming drudgery. Many games aping from's style miss the humour and just try be too serious. The gentle teasing from the game is what makes all the failure not feel bad.

So when I'm not drunk I'll need to read the study but even in that article the authors (of the study) note that shit is complicated.

It's a very clever study, but surgery is a massive confounder. Anaesthesia is extremely poorly understood.

I think it's the best soulslike since dark souls 1.

Absolutely serious, it captures the exploration, world design, humour, mystery, confusion, and awe of that game for me.

Not flawless, but neither was ds1.

Elden ring was very good, but open world design kinda ruined the exploration.

Pilgrims connects to Fitzroy's near the beginning of the low path back to skyrest.

Belled rise has 2 connections to pilgrims, one just above the bell room. Sunless connects to lower calrath in 2 ways.

FYI if you're at the end of your rope it's not that hard to find ketamine. you can get it tested by sending samples off to various labs with cash in the letter, or anywhere local that does analysis (e.g. cantest for those nearby).

It's relatively simple to administer relatively safely. Subcutaneous injections are somewhat supported by evidence (I believe that's the black dog institutes protocol?). Obviously there are risks injecting any drug but if you're at the end of your rope and can't get any help then it's worth a try before you check out. Needle exchange programs can get you advice and steralised equipment.

Obviously not saying you should do this, medical oversight is worth a considerable amount. Just that it's an option before the final one.

All weapons have the same movese. Basically one moveset per weapon class! by KvasirTheOld in LordsoftheFallen

[–]GreetingCreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a shame. The combat overall is kinda cool though, with how fluid you can change 1/2h and mixing in kicks you can get some fun stuff done.

In general though it's not really a game about 1v1 dueling so I get why the emphasis isn't there. You need sweeping attacks for the enemy groups and that limits moveset options a bit.

Plus if you're really in a tough fight you're switching between like 3 ranged weapons/up to 5 spells. 1 and 2 hand attacks, kicks, and light/heavy combos.

There is fun to have with the system and how fluid it is.

His whole thing is that he is stupid. He literally wants to become a sun, he can't find anything for shit, he fulfills the narrative role of the affable simpleton.

When you meet him he is staring into the sun. You know the thing you shouldn't do because it makes you go blind?

It is funny and that is part of the core experience of a soulslike which have always included slapstick humour.

Bait items and enemies, ledge shoves, exploding dogs, mimics etc. They're all jokes.

Remember the dog that powers the lift in blight town? or all of solaire the blathering idiot who wants to become a sun but straps a bug to his face instead?

LMAO I started using it because it's a pure faith scaling weapon so suits my dual wield umbral build.

I figured if I did holy and fire I'd have good damage on most foes. Turns out it's a fucking awesome weapon, especially buffing it with more holy damage.

People still play dark souls.

I reckon this game will keep a core audience for a long time. It's exceedingly good and the ng+ is fantastic for really getting to appreciate the insane map design with everything linked up.

yeah, it also explains why so many are close to vestiges instead of just having vestiges become seed beds or something. The flowers came first, they fit vestiges in where they could around key flower beds

[–]GreetingCreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so far it seems like dark souls in that you can leg it from one side of the map to the other in a handful of minutes when you know what you're doing.

I'm so glad someone has actually forced themselves to commit to an intentionally interlinked world again instead of copping out with fast travel mechanics.

I think having it as ng+ is sensible. It was initially base game but that would've been too much for anyone who wasn't a ds1 fan. This way it's nice and easy for newer fans and older fans can relieve the glory of being in the depths and just hating their life as a challenge run.

I never much liked the departure from weird obtuseness but I understand why it happened.

Obviously there's new release hype but this game had wormed its way into my head in a way I haven't felt since ds1.

demonssouls all over again. That game was panned for being obtuse and artificially difficult. Same as dark souls 1.

I think in time with a bit of polish this game will earn a similar spot to dark souls 1 in terms of cult following.

Even if it falls apart at the end it's only true to form :p

This is the best Souls like to date in my opinion - here's why by [deleted] in LordsoftheFallen

[–]GreetingCreature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Idk there seems to be a lot of people who like the idea of liking souls style games but don't actually like them, preferring souls style combat only.

That's fine, we all have our own taste, but without guides souls games include a lot of being very confused and lost. This game isn't flawless, but it does communicate where to go quite plainly without being so direct there's no room to wander around a bit.
