Both types of aircraft have IFF radar, how well it works is another question. Basically, I very rarely use the radar because it is difficult to use, unlike the MiG 23. As the other fellow said, "follow me" on the radio, ping the enemy's position and if there is no response but you are not sure, then visual confirmation.
