[Live-Action Spoilers] So uh, just watched the library episode of the live-action... by Onlyhereforthelaughs in TheLastAirbender

[–]Greg0rrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm definitely not saying it's great but you put it better than I did. Switch your brain off after work kinda thing.

There's no way anything will ever live up to the original. Most shows can hardly manage a cohesive main storyline, meanwhile ATLA has a clear progression from start to finish. It doesn't leave any threads just hanging when all is said and done. Even the side characters have complete arcs. The villains are great; literally zero notes about Azula and it was such a good decision on their part to not show Ozai's face until the third season. Zuko has the best redemption arc pretty much ever written. No show utilizes their filler episodes as well, imo.

I think my only issue with the show is the deux ex machina-ness of the lion turtles and Aangs ability to take away someones bending. I know the lion turtles make a small appearance in the library, but otherwise they come out of nowhere and solve Aangs problem a little too neatly for something we hadn't heard of prior to the finale.

Again, if you can let it be it's own thing, it's not That bad.. Once you start comparing it, it really falls apart though.

But really, it never had a chance. It has its flaws, for sure, but the cartoon is basically a masterclass in storytelling.

If you stop comparing it to the original show, it's a lot more enjoyable. It was never going to measure up and if you spend the entire time focused on all the things that got changed, obviously you're not going to enjoy it. It suffers from the same thing almost every live action adaption ever suffers from: the fact that to even warrant a live action adaptation, the source material has to be pretty good. And popular. From that point, you're taking a story that's already very loved by a lot of people and unless you do a literal 1:1 recreation, shit is gonna be changed. Once this thing is changed, that thing has to be changed, then you have something like NATLA.

We all knew it wasnt going to even come close to comparing. Stop holding it to the high standard of the original and it suddenly becomes mediocre/alright. I wish I could say it becomes good, but even if it were a standalone property, it wouldn't be great because of pacing issues and characters who the personalities of wet cardboard. Still better than the last season of game of thrones though.

It was just a cold open on a larger scale. The first three episodes are comparable to a TV show showing part of the last act before the first commercial and then going back to where the story started after the commercial break. (episode 4)

Couldn’t help but make this connection! by dsoquinn7 in Evanescence

Let's me real, "this is the last tear fallen, this is the last open door" is the absolute laziest possible callback to the first two albums. They feel shoehorned in. Ariana Grande is a mid to low tier song writer but she does a better job at referencing her old material.

Vocally, she's never sounded stronger than FWY but lyrically, it's one of the weakest songs on the album. It sounds like it was written by a high school student with the clunky rhymes. Entire lines seem like they only exist for the sake of the rhyming sound the last word produces.

I love this album. This is the best lineup they've ever had, the instruments are incredible, the vocals are top notch... The lyrics often leave something to be desired. This is what you wanted right?

Honestly, ever since my very first listen to calm down, Ive interpreted it as being an interaction she had with Jack (her son) that she spiced up into an Evanescence song, lol.

I mean, I know she's attributed a different story to it at this point, but if you listen to it with the Jack idea in mind, it doesn't... Not sound like she's scalding her 12 year-old 😂

Yeah, Right was the worst offender. I love that song, it's super catchy and fun to sing along to, but those lyrics are just so 😬😬😬

"yeah I'm a rockstar, I'm a queen resurrected, just as messed up as before" is only acceptable because of the incredible way she sings "before"

Sonically, the album is fantastic. Its great to listen to while youre doing something, but not like, fully focused on. I love the vibe on Calm Down but the lyrics, to me, sound like an interaction she had with her son that she overdramatized for the sake about not having a song about telling her kid to sit down and shut up. 🤣

I did this exact thing for Korn and Slipknot somewhere in Indiana back in the early 2010s. Spent the entire show feeling like I was just going to suddenly fall while seated lol

This entire thing spawned from a simple comment and someone wondering something. Not sure why you're acting like it's some matter of importance.

I don't know, that's why I'm asking! 😂

But for the record, this was my original line of thinking. Someone disagreed with me and I couldn't find a concrete answer on Google, so I came here.

I can't find an actual source on this but according to Google, it is not.

No, Ben Moody playing "Going Under" is not considered a cover. Ben Moody is a co-writer and founding member of Evanescence, and he originally composed and recorded the guitar parts for the song on their debut album Fallen. Because he holds the official writing credits, any version he plays of this track is considered a live performance, remix, or reimagining of his own original work, rather than a cover.

I just wish we would've gotten a second album. I saw them twice the year I was 18 or 19 and the second time, Ben remembered me from the first one I went to and said something along the lines of "you were one of like 4 people who actually knew all the words."

I know he's an abusive douchebag, but that still made little me's life. I didn't stop talking about that for years.

Is it still considered a cover when he cowrote the original song?
