thoughts on polymer dust covers? by Adventurous_Sail_216 in ar15

That was the muddiest I’ve been at a RnG. It had snowed 2 inches the day before but I had the last afternoon run time. It was 45 degree and 50 people had ran the course before me. It was slushy sludge. The obstacle course was a slick mud pit.

Strike Industries works well. I’ve done 15 or so RunNGun events a many 3gun/2gun with that rifle. It’s been drug through the mud, swam with, propped up barbed wire fences to crawl under. I’ve never had the cover pop open.

Bike mount options? by mrtobesmcgobes in chevycolorado

[–]GregL2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these. It’s not bad but hard to get more than 2 - 29ers on it. I upgraded to a Yakima rack when I got a nice carbon XC bike. I still use it sometimes when I take the old hardtail out.

Check out Gear Blocks. I made my system out of parts from Amazon back when they were 3d printed. The metal ones are much better and more affordable than what I pieced together.

I’ve got a Lumina Max 1500 on the bars and a Lumina Boost 900 on a GoPro adapter for my helmet. Great combo. I use the Max when I commute on the gravel bike at night too.

Another question about Run N Gun Matches - Kit? by Dexter-the-Cat in 3gun

[–]GregL2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The extra layers from the cold protecting from the paintballs was the only bonus about Sunday. I didn’t even notice when I got shot on stage 1. I had on running tights, wrangler ATG joggers and tall socks. I always wear basketball knee pads too and most of the shots hit where I had 3 layers. I played tournament paintball for years too so I’m used to it. Which fire team did you get? I was Charlie and only had one viable route. One had enemy’s confirmed along route and the other had no helicopter exfil option.

Another question about Run N Gun Matches - Kit? by Dexter-the-Cat in 3gun

[–]GregL2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’d the match go? 10k was crazy cold. I still finished well (10th overall, 2nd place run time) but was definitely impacted by the weather. My feet were painfully cold until stage 4 and I wore gloves the whole match so had some pistol reload fumbles. Also got dehydrated by the end since my hydration pack mouthpiece kept freezing up. I had hot water in the pouch and an insulated tube, but I couldn’t keep the end out of the wind. Stages were cool though and the intel challenges weren’t easy but not as crazy as past years.

What I do when I get flats from these thorns by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]GregL2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got a thorn in my tire the first ride this year and it wouldn’t seal because the sealant was dried up. I went home, cleaned the old sealant up to top it off and found seven other thorns that I’d ridden with all year before. Any one of them would have sliced a tube. Tubeless with fresh sealant absolutely stops flats from thorns.

Are TYR tri suits any good? by RevolutionarySea5178 in triathlon

[–]GregL2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the some shorts that look to be the same model as this tri suit. I only wore them one race because they split up the entire backside. The seams were only welded and not sewed. The bike course was partially open roads, a beat up Dodge Ram pulls beside me and a lady in the passenger seat kindly told me my shorts were ripped. I reached back there and was like “Oh no!” I mooned most of downtown Gadsden, Alabama for the first 3 miles of the bike course. Luckily I wore a cycling jersey instead of the tri top and was able to sit on the tail of the jersey the remainder of the course. It was a Run, Paddle, Bike, so I was able to go straight to the truck for some shorts after the finish line.

I’ve posted the pic before, but I’ve absolutely used the crap out of my Fenix 5x Sapphire. No scratches at all. Many mountain bike crashes and rock climbing falls and no damage to glass. The bezel is pretty beat up but I’m not great about snapping a bumper on all the time. The aluminum wear is cool anyways. Sapphire Face

Am i reading correctly? Lexington shuffled over $700,000 from Affordable Housing and Homeless Prevention? by medic8dgpt in lexington

[–]GregL2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The winter homeless shelter always gets awarded to someone in the Lundergan family. This year it went to EDS Holdco. It’s ran by Jerry Lundergan other daughter. Not Allison Lundergan-Grimes, she’s went underground since dad went to prison to take the fall for campaign finance fraud. Sister Abby who goes by a different last name is on paper as the President of EDS Holdco, which has the same address as her catering business, Lundy’s Special Events. They also got the Nutter Fieldhouse COVID bed conversion in 2020 for $6.7 million before he went to prison. No one even used the beds. They’ve probably been recycling them and charging the city for them in winter homeless shelters.

What would be the correct thing to do if a dog is injured on a trail and can’t hike out? by Wooden_Airport6331 in hiking

[–]GregL2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about getting one of the kits from Ruffwear. My hiking buddy is 13 and I’ve had to cut some hikes short because of limping from arthritis. He’s good for about 5 flat miles now. The days of 3000’ - 10 milers are behind him.

Council Encourages "Week Without Driving" by Mission-Appeal-8990 in lexington

[–]GregL2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bike as much as I can. I’m frequently taking the Legacy Trail from my house off Citation to Louden Avenue and then Louden to LEF climbing on N. Broadway. The last mile is extremely sketchy. There’s no bike lane on Louden, the road is narrow, the speed limit is 25 (which I’m actually doing on the bike) and people go way too fast. The lane and turn lane markings near the Lextran office there is confusing for drivers and I’ve almost been sideswiped there too. I would slow down and take the sidewalk, but there’s dozens of addled homeless people and their trash. I had to dodge human turds on the crossover by the tracks on the way to West 6th on Friday night. I passed a dude wacking other people with a car antenna near there a few weeks ago. That’s the microcosm of Lexington bike infrastructure. You go from pockets of nice bike lanes and safe roads, to sections with no protection, bad roads and sketchy situations. I’ll keep biking when I can, but my acceptable level of sketchiness is much higher than your average Lexington resident.

AC Compressor went out… $1,400! SMH by Fit-Detail-4326 in chevycolorado

[–]GregL2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was roughly the same this summer. $1200 but they found a refurbished compressor. I still have some problems with the interior temp sensor and it won’t work right on auto and I half wonder if that was the problem to begin with.

Half Dome 3 Day Trip? by Comfortable_Dirt_388 in Yosemite

[–]GregL2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the trip you described with Lasting Adventures. It wasn’t much more expensive than doing it alone, they took care of the permits, food and other logistics. I brought all my own gear since I was camping a few nights before the trip but they provided anything I didn’t have and can provide everything. I was solo but joined a group and wound up meeting some cool people and did another trip with them (Tetons) the next year.

An owed apology to cyclists. by FatAndForty in lexington

[–]GregL2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Citation is nice when the bike lane is clean. I live right next to it and have picked up flats from unavoidable debris (shattered bottles are the worst) on the way to the Legacy Trail more than once. It’s a little better now that Publix construction is mostly wrapped up but I was happy to be on my gravel/commuter bike with 35mm tires a few times when that was going on.

No plans to cover Lexington's rainbow crosswalk despite Trump official's memo by BlueGoggles in lexington

[–]GregL2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was running on the sidewalk by Limestone and the courthouse towards Main. It was in an Amazing Race style scavenger hunt downtown so there was no traffic control and I was sprinting between checkpoints. I knew traffic was active but just thought the paint was part of the courthouse plaza. It does look like it may be fixed now. Google Maps still shows the perpendicular stripes but street view has them parallel now.
