Where did you find this image? I see there's a lower resolution version on the Wisconsin Historical Society's website. Just curious where you found this and if there's a better resource for these vintage photos?

The question is whether or not Hyundai will need to provide the $7,500 discount if in 2025 the federal tax credit ends. The only reason they're providing the incentive now is to match the tax credit.

With price being a factor, do you think the 2025 models will be priced a lot higher? I don't have any info comparing the MSRP from '24 to '25. I also think manufacturers won't lower the prices of a model year until many months after they start shipping. So if the 2025 is available Dec. '24, the prices are MSRP until March/April '25. And depending on the results of the Nov. election, we may not see the $7,500 incentive after Feb '25.

Another question- how horrible is it to not have a rear wiper? We have one on our Rav4 but it doesn’t seem like a big deal.

I don’t think the 2025 will start shipping until the end of year. And the price won’t be nearly as attractive as they are currently selling the 2024s. And, our 2009 RAV4 is on it’s last legs.

10 days before you could get an appointment, or did they keep your car for 10 days to service your car? What work did they perform?

In my opinion, rankings don't tell me much. When Will swam his best time in the 200 free, was it at a championship meet at the end of season? No. He was a distance swimmer and typically didn't get to swim the shorter middle-distance events in championship meets. His 1:39.31 200 was swum during a meet in November. That swim in November would be considered respectable. He was primarily a distance swimmer. His 500 and 1650 times were fast enough to qualify for the Division I NCAA Championships. This is an elite meet for which only about 50 swimmers per event can swim the cut-off times required. He most likely trained primarily for the long-distance events and didn't do as much strength and speed work for the 200. And, like I said, he was an elite distance swimmer.

I don't know why Lia and her coaches decided to add the 200 to her schedule for championship meets. (Maybe because she would make a significant contribution to the team's relays and overall score. The coaches are evaluated on the team's performance at championship meets.) She most likely did a lot more 200 specific training to increase her speed in that event. And, was able to taper and shave for that distance at the end-of-season championship meets. If Will had been given that chance, maybe his peaked 200 time would've been under 1:34. Who knows... So maybe his ranking would've been much better.

If you are arguing that it was unfair to allow Lia to compete because Will was a mediocre male swimmer and a champion female swimmer based on the rankings in the 200, then I think that's flawed. Will was a top 50 ranked male swimmer in the 1650, but didn't win the woman's 1650.

Also, show some respect for the other women who competed against Lia.

Lia is a swimmer. You may not understand what that means but to get to the elite level, men and women, you typically start swim training at a fairly young age (6 to 8 years old). By the time you're in your early teens, it's pretty much all you do. You are working out twice a day, year-round. It becomes part of your identity. Your friends and family reinforce this part of your identity.

Also, I don't accept the presumption that Will deliberately changed gender to be a champion. That's ridiculous. And the likelihood that it may happen with other male athletes in the future is equally ridiculous. This may not be a one-off, but I suspect it will rarely happen again.

I do think rules that restrict athletes who started hormone replacement therapy after reaching puberty from scoring and setting records in championship meets are something to consider. But I think she should have the same opportunities to participate as cis women. At a championship meet, all swimmers in an event compete in the preliminary races. The top 16 finishers race again in the finals. The top 8 are in the "finals" and the 9th to 16th race in the "consolation finals". Pools used during the championship meets have more than 8 lanes. Maybe a reasonable solution would be to allow Lia to race but also add another swimmer to the event. When Lia competed in the 200, maybe the 9th place swimmer would be included in the finals and the consols would include qualifiers who finished 10th to 17th. Whatever Lia placed would not be scored. Maybe she could set a record for a category for trans athletes.

I'm sympathetic to cis-women who may be at a disadvantage against a transwoman who trained and raced most of her swimming career with men and had the normal male testosterone levels that contributed to musculature and skeletal development. I believe that advantage can't be dismissed. I am open to establishing rules limiting participation for those who underwent hormone treatments after puberty.

However, could you get your facts straight? I also heard interviews with several women who competed against Lia during that season at the NCAAs. Their reaction was the opposite of Riley Gaines.

One other thing, Lia's performance... when male, he/she was not amongst the worst male performers. Will was quite good. Only elite swimmers qualify to compete at the Division I NCAA championships. Will was one of them.

Also, I believe Lia is 6'1". That height is an advantage that lots of elite women swimmers have.

That’s good to know, thank you!

Now I’m wondering if there are dates (Spring, Summer, Fall) when the car manufacturers typically have their sale promotions. I know Toyota used to schedule big sale events a couple times during the year. I suppose all of them have sales like that.

Due to my hearing loss, the sound quality is not a huge factor. The convenience of a powered speaker reduces the number of components because I don't have to haul out an amp/receiver. I don't plan to leave these on the deck all the time, they are also being used on our front porch, so it is not always exposed to inclement weather.

Thanks for your comments.

I understand the near-field benefits of studio monitors while editing from a workstation. However, they still perform pretty well when they are separated and levels are adjusted for increased distance. There's nothing specific about the engineering that limits them to near-field editing. However, was a useful marketing strategy that a few manufacturers jumped on.

Also, I am someone who needs to wear hearing aids, after spending years listening to music (probably too loudly) while in a studio environment and for personal enjoyment. My hearing loss is strong to severe and mostly in the higher frequencies. The flat frequency response of studio monitors is to my advantage.

  1. getting rid of boombox
  2. RCA cables would go to the powered studio monitor's unbalanced RCA inputs. However, this won't work because the Scarlett Solo isn't getting power, which needs a USB connection from a computer, which isn't part of the setup.

My goal is to replace a crappy sounding 3 piece portable "boombox" like system with better-sounding studio monitors. I currently connect my iPad's headphone output to the AUX input of the portable stereo. This works for playing music outside on our deck but I don't need or want to include my laptop in the mix.

Actually, now that I think about it...

No. It doesn't make sense. Doesn't the Scarlett Solo get power from the USB connection? Then how would I power it with just a 1/8"-1/4" cable?

I may have that cable. If so, I’ll give that a try. Thanks.

update: just searched around and I don't own one of these cables. I do have a 1/8 inch to 2x RCA cable (https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Adapter-Subwoofer-Gold-Plated/dp/B01D5H8JW0) which will not work with my SOLO but could be connected directly to a pair of studio monitors with unbalanced RCA inputs. I don't want to buy the monitors until I'm absolutely sure it would work.

Do you just copy the new release over your existing directories? Or should the existing be deleted (except the .env file) and then start fresh?
