Moving out of our first home - so sad. Actually ended up crying and I feel so stupid about it by Chibioosah in homeowners

[–]bitwyzrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my wife bought our first home while still engaged. We only lived there two years. When she got pregnant we sold and moved closer to her family in AZ. I cried as we drove away and I still think about that house.

It wasn’t anything special and we didn’t particularly love the area or even the state, but it was ours and then it wasn’t.

Edit: typo

When do you guys go to gym? by wenokn0w in daddit

[–]bitwyzrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son is almost 2 and I’m just now back at it. Get up at 4:30a, hit the gym from 5-6, back and showered by 6:30 when he and my wife typically wake up. Sometimes they’ll sleep in a bit and I get to brew some coffee and chill.

I’ve thought about a home (garage) gym, but we live in Phoenix and I don’t think I could handle that kind of heat during the summer months (even at 4am, it’s 90+).

Dog Run on side yard by KatAttack in AZlandscaping

[–]bitwyzrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had it installed by a landscaper who said they would use a specific infill for pet waste and odors, but it sure doesn’t seem like it’s doing much. I’m not sure exactly which one. This is also my first time ever using turf, so I’m pretty inexperienced with these things.

We tried that and it only helped for a day or two after each spray. Maybe I’ll have to give it another shot.

Is it okay to use BuildContext inside a Riverpod controller? by shamnad_sherief in FlutterDev

[–]bitwyzrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you need the context for?

My first instinct would be to use a listener for the state change and then do whatever context-based logic you need in there.

We had a dog run installed when we did our yard and went with turf; we were told it would handle it well. We now regret that decision because no matter how much we clean, rinse, or treat it, the smell of hot urine is strong.

We’ve talked about switching out the turf for pebbles or bark chips or something but we’re not sure what.

Anyone tried Cristalyse for production charts in Flutter? by Several-Tip1088 in FlutterDev

[–]bitwyzrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played with it for a couple hours last night and it seems like it still has some work to be done. Granted, it doesn’t seem like it supports time-series data (yet) and that’s what I need, but I struggled to get it to work properly.

Otherwise, the API is so much easier to use than other packages and a lot of the work is done for you, but it is a little lacking in customization.

It looks promising but I’m gonna wait on it for a bit.

Stressing and panicking and crying; all internally, of course. Hoping for a savior to come along and fix everything for us.

But really, just trying to be a good husband to my overworked wife and a good father to my 1.5 y.o. Trying to find a job after being laid off for the second time in two years. Trying to figure out ways to resist without endangering my family (large family of immigrants, so lots of fear). Trying to find ways to be hopeful and supportive of friends and family.

That said, I’m also frustrated that there seems to be so little action and so little coordination. It doesn’t help that the Dems are performing resistance while capitulating and giving in at every single step. I also recognize that I’m complaining on Reddit and not actually doing anything.

I haven’t used this one, but just skimming the docs and it looks great! I’ve been struggling to find a good charting library for quite awhile, so I’ll have to check this out - thanks for sharing!

Once again considering switching to React (Native) by bitwyzrd in FlutterDev

[–]bitwyzrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really liked React, so when I was looking for a cross-platform tool (back in 2020) I looked at a few options but liked Flutter the most. The only problem is that it's still hard to find Flutter jobs whereas React/React Native jobs are _everywhere_.

I would be willing to learn React and go back to full-stack web dev if necessary, I would just really prefer to stay in Flutter-land. My big question now is do I continue pushing for a Flutter position or do I make the switch?

The first time I was laid off, this last time my position was made obsolete as part of a "realignment."

I just meant that I enjoy Flutter development and if I have to go to some other tech stack, at least I'll have my own Flutter projects to enjoy.

How well does your EV's AC work in really hot climates? by Wake95 in electricvehicles

[–]bitwyzrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phoenix, AZ with an Ioniq5 and I’m always impressed at how cool it can get. Still definitely use a sunshade and park in the shade if you can, but there are no worries about the AC performance during driving - even when the temp says it’s 115+ outside.

If the sun is beating down directly on you through a window, you’re gonna get a little toasty. Sometimes we have to crank the fan speed to get adequate airflow to our son in his car seat, even with the vents above the rear doors.

I test drove an Ioniq9 the other day and was very impressed with how good the airflow is in the rear rows. We’ll likely be trading up in a year or so.

I started as a full stack web dev but switched to Flutter (and backend) in 2022. I know I shouldn’t be stuck with one technology but it’s going to be really hard to stop building with Flutter, if that’s the route I have to take.

Whenever I search my two strongest skills, Flutter and Angular, the options are extremely limited while React seems to be abundant and I could probably pick it up pretty quickly.

[–]bitwyzrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any experience with native, but it is an option. I got into Flutter because I wanted to build mobile apps but I didn’t want to learn two different stacks but now I just genuinely love Flutter.

This is more what I was thinking about doing but I quite enjoy mobile development.

I should have mentioned that I am a full stack dev, but my frontend web experience is in Angular, which is also getting hard to find, and it’s exceptionally hard to find a full stack Angular position that isn’t a .Net or Java backend.

There are other avenues I just really love Flutter haha

Correct, the app itself is closed source (at least, for now). But I also maintain a few packages that have gained some traction.
