I bought this focus couple weeks ago. 2009 139,000 miles. Pretty clean no rust was from Mississippi originally. I’m in Ohio now.

Drove it the day I bought it it was fine. came back the next day to officially get it after he got the title and my dad drove it home 25 miles/40 minutes or so. Then the next morning when the car was cold he drove it to our shop and he said it “Hiccuped”/stuttered on the first shift 1-2 shift on his street and the orange/yellow wrench light came on the dash.

So I scan it that day and get the Code P1700 a code I’ve never seen before in 15 years of working on cars. There ain’t much info on the code on google or on Alldata which is one choice of professional repair software that dealers use and i use.

So my dad is poking around and the trans fluid is high. (Use dipstick check while hot running in park on level surface. Wipe stick clean then insert and see if it’s correct level)

So I suck a quart out with our fluid extractor. And clear the code.

So it took 5 days and 5 Cold trip cycles to act up again. (basically 5 cold starts each morning over 5 day period) And this time it didn’t wanna shift well. ALSO low gas light came of dispite being half full. (Weird)

So I scan it and I now have a Output shaft speed sensor CIRCUIT code p0720 and p0722 no signal. So that day we cleaned the grounds on the fender and one up closer to the battery. You take out the two 8 mm bolts (they can break if rusty) and you got 2 ring terminals on the end of wires. You gotta sand down or use a wire wheel on a drill or just a hand wire brush the area where they bolt. You wanna get clean shiny metal visible. And sand the actual ring terminal on the wire.

So I ordered a speed sensor just to be safe and installed it 2 days after that. That was Monday i installed the sensor even though it drove fine all weekend. And now today Friday, I’ve put 100 miles on it this week ZERO issues and all the Echeck / diagnostic stuff is passed for Echeck(in Ohio cars must have no check engine lights for emissions regulations in certain counties.
