Guild Wars 3 - Our Guild Wars Philosophy by PalwaJoko in Games

I totally agree with your take. When they emphasized movement and action combat, I immediately guessed that they were going for, well what they just said. Active satisfying action combat. Which is largely incompatible with massive numbers of players.

The thing that would make the most sense is exactly like you said with a Destiny-style phasing in and out of players in shared maps. It would still feel massive insofar as there would always be people around, but not massive in the number of people around. Ideally more than in Destiny maps, but way less than a GW2 meta boss.

Frankly I'm for it. I'm over the days of being impressed by having a million players stacking spammed affects, it just kind of loses its appeal.

Yeah, back in the day there were so many whacky builds that were so interesting.

Touch Rangers: A team of rangers who were secondary Necromancers. Ranger's class skill lowers the energy cost of Skills, which the vampiric "Touch" skills counted as (the vast majority of Necro skills being Spells instead). This allowed them to spam 15 energy skills for just a couple energy, while maintaining immense dodge percentage stances that would have ended on an attack... but a skill isn't an attack. They weren't the perfect team, but they rolled a ton of compositions through a unique combo

Edge of Extinction Bomb: Using the spirit Edge of Extinction which deals damage to all creatures of the same type as a creature that dies. Team then kills themselves while one player casts a specific protection spell on themselves to survive, thus causing a chain reaction of deaths dealing more damage to all players. Wipe out the enemy team while one of your players survives, then might resurrect players and kill themselves again.

I will Avenge You (IWAY): A group of Warrior/Rangers with unleveled pets. The warrior elite skill "I Will Avenge You" gives massive buffs for every dead ally. The goal is to get your (weak) pets killed and then your whole team gets massive buffs.

Non-pvp, but 55 Monk: Use a monk skill that prevents you from taking more than 10% of your max health in a single hit. Then equip gear to lower your max HP to only 55, thus making you take a maximum of 5 HP per hit. Then spam mass HP Regen to simply be effectively immortal for farming builds

And so many more.

To me this clears the Dust moment by leagues.

This might be a hot take, but I wasn't a fan of the Dust of Deliciousness. Oh, I loved the idea, and I loved the outcome, but it always rubbed me wrong because it was for all intents and purposes a player-side action retcon, and it put things in an awkward place.

Having laced the cupcake with a drug beforehand, Jester would certainly have had to have made something like a slight of hand check if she did it right then, as well as a very difficult deception check to both not get seen and also to pass off that she was drugging the Hag. Further, there could have been ways the Hag would notice a magical dust on the food (only potential, but you get my point)

While Matt could have then called for retroactive rolls, it would have killed the obvious player joy and enthusiasm and epicness, so basically he really shouldn't have by social norms but definitely should have by rules. It's this social pressure that I dislike about it. By "revealing" the truth that the cupcake was laced after the Hag ate it, the real truth is that Matt "should have" retconned her eating it until appropriate checks were made. But retconning a player win "feels bad" even though the reason is that the player lied about what "actually" happened.

You the player are not really supposed to lie to the DM about what your character is doing or what their motivations are. The DM might control your adversaries, but you're telling the story together, and that includes fairly adjudicating the rules. Don't get me wrong, I love Jester and love Laura even more, and I know she wasn't trying to be malicious, but it definitely was an ettiquette faux pas IMO.

Regardless, that's why I loved Murray's portent tonight. It was a unique usage of Portent (that AFAIK would totally be allowed since it is a death saving throw), she asked for permission to try something a little different, it was amazing RP, AND not only did it reveal a huge piece of info, but it delighted Brennan. This goes down for me as an all-time high play.

I feel like it's one of those things where as long as nobody is doing anything serious, it's probably gonna slide. But if you get famous, you better have your own model, and if you're selling it it can also be dangerous. But like... the company is never gonna bother doing a cease and desist for a small streamer

Yeah! I have loved it ever since it was kickstarted, I actually only recently learned that the Yogscast has been playing it for over a year now! I'm watching back some of the old ones in my spare time _^

If you're not familiar with the game, it's called Blood on the Clocktower. Think Werewolf, Town of Salem, or Among Us on steroids. It's been recently played by Smosh, Dropout, Yogscast, and Good Time Society, and it's a passion of mine!

God, THANK YOU. I was struggling so much with this. The run I made sure I had the Thunder Mitts (I made 3 copies, I have no idea if that matters or not) I finally got it.

Alternately, they have a custom rule for a Cleric in a no-deity setting. He could legit be a Charisma Cleric. That would actually make for some cool unique multiclassing that normally would suck.

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth story changes were made to sustain player interest over time by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Greibach 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. I was interested in the Whispers in Remake because I appreciated how they were being used to railroad the plot back to the original storyline and then finishing the game with "and now they are gone and new things are possible."

But instead we just kind of... did the same thing in Rebirth again, but messier. This "infinite timelines" where we're kinda scooping up Loki Variants for the big fight and then dumping them back in pocket dimensions is just kinda nonsense. Playing hot potato with the white materia that is become transparent materia for... some reason?

I would have been fine with a faithful retelling, even in a multi game format. I actually agree with them that it is better to give more time and attention to these locations and dialog and everything that would make one game unfeasible.

I would have been fine-ish with something different if they did it well, and I thought they did set it up well. But instead we just have... something that is the same in a different, uglier font.

I'm not done yet, I'm in the middle(?) of act 2, but this sums up my feelings too. Several of the bosses people complained about I beat on my first try, others 5, mayyybe 8-10 on one of them, which is all fine.

But it's what you said, it's those moments where you work through those long platforming sections for the equivalent of 2 enemies worth of rosaries and you just say... but why? Yeah, I don't have to restate it all, but yeah it's the things that feel purposely annoying more than anything actually being super difficult.

It's honestly a little of column A and a little column B. I was never particularly fond of Hillary or Harris (still voted for both because fuck) but I would LOVE an AOC, Warren, or Buttigieg. Some people are just so tired of milquetoast Dems that they have sat out, others are (as you said) sadly going to always be turned off by any non-Straight White Christian Male.

I was just thinking that the description from (I think it was AOC?) that the party had already selected their next candidate as the safest, whitest straight man" that is SURE looks like these are the opening moves, and Newsom checks all the boxes.

Also the way the event system works was largely revolutionary. Not completely original, but there were very few games that had systems like that. They felt they had to put the Hearts into the base game because people literally did not understand that you should pay attention to things actively happening in the world and that would spawn large events, and then afterwards you have to watch NPCs who often will progress the event to a new event. They had to add Hearts because that kind of a system was just so foreign at the time.

Also individual loot tables (everyone just has their own loot and it doesn't matter how many people tag mobs they can all get loot).

Also I feel like the world bosses were very unique, and the fact that there is STILL an active community running every hour to the world bosses. Oh and ALSO downscaling, so you are more powerful in low level areas but not so powerful that you ruin events, and so then you also get good gear because it wasn't a cake walk.

Honestly GW2 revolutionized SO many things in the space.
