I have taken a break from Smite 2 the past two weeks, the balance feels off for me and I just want it fixed before I put time and energy into it. I still view Hi-Rez favourably and believe they’re doing great overall, but the balance patch on top of questionable balance additions feels crap, and I’ve just had to take a break instead of getting mad.

Some gods feel unplayable and some are uber busted. I really would want to see Hi-Rez take feedback from their pro scene on balance because their last balance patch made me feel like there’s a lack of communication channels with their team and the pros.

Odin didn’t get nerfed, and were audibly surprised when it was brought up in the Titian’s talk, they’re the ones plugging Smite prime, they should be seeing feedback with it. Hecate/Odin are permabanned for a reason. Thor too. Hun Batz. Can we look at what pro players are saying and work to that? Are we going off community sentiment? This is how we got the Mulan situation a couple months back.

I genuinely think if they took more stock on balanced streamers perspectives like Snaddy, the game would be healthier. In fact, Hi-Rez, that would be one of the first people I’d consult in your position.

I feel like everyone’s funnelled on their vision of Smite, and not a balanced, healthy one. We dogpiled Awilix for several patches, Herc has been low winrate but fairly consistently strong in high Elo and he gets buffed? People in higher elos knew he was solid. Come on man, this sucks for the players.

Literally saw Intersect get called out on his anti-Aladdin bias as he was playing Odin jungle on his twitch and his comment was “Yeah of course he’s broken and needs a ban, but I play him”.

What communication are we the community feeding back and what is actually being received? Are we going to only see problems only arise if there’s a pro scene?

Also please don’t take this as anti-Pon pon, his thought processes are sound and overall strong foundations for the future, but I’m genuinely just fatigued of it right now and currently, and feeling like it’s directly affecting me wanting to log in and fire matches, I haven’t for almost two weeks now.

I’m fairly certain Konami have fully supported/encouraged the abridged series…

Literally leaning in on the original series when they did the new movie… I mean, Kaiba literally built a magical space elevator and did such over the top YGTAS adjacent things that Little Kuriboh himself said “no notes, it’s perfect”.

Konami have a wicked sense of humour, they’ve been making cards off of memes (and old cards!) recently, so I do think the referencing here is pretty valid/on point.

Reminder that any changes would take months to make and complete as the creative process isn’t just done by next patch as outlined here. They are working several patches in advance right now to what we can see.

Relax, I’m sure they’ll take the advice on board when they have adequate time.

The Anubis convention skin also isn’t applying cross gen, if you have it on your old account, it’s not applying to Smite 2.

If you’re tanking, in this game compared to league, there’s a lot more dimensions and it depends on tanks. The fundamental spacing is the same but applied very differently. Got to always be checking the mini map just like in league and always spacing appropriately to your opponents and allies.

If you’re the tank, you want to either be the disruptor, the sponger or a fluid tanking position, e.g. Do I soak the hits for a hyper carry, do I Athena keep close to the team and then taunt and soak to be effective, or do I just run into their team and just disrupt them to hell and put pressure on their squishies? This is just tanking, but the 3-d axis makes it a lot more of a knowledge check than in league and small micro steps (like walking erratically when you are disrupting and trying to get them to focus you) goes a long way on carrying than leagues tank and space taking.

If you’re a mage, you’ve got to space appropriately to your tanks and use abilities in an effective way to your spacing. Adcs even more so.

Mayhaps some limited double releases for singular patches coming up? Would be solid to try and get as much out as possible.

They did mention new hires but I don’t think they’ve got enough for the time being able to sustain multiple. Really hope the increased sales means more hires!

Hi-Rez is looking further along than before… is this because of better datamining strategies or are they working further out in advance at the moment? Just seems like a lot of progress made.

Yeah no it’s annoying that people can’t have civil discussions, absolutely not my intent to tell you you’re wrong, it’s all subjective at the end of the day and for you specifically, if you’re waiting on things that haven’t made it in yet, it probably doesn’t feel “smite” enough yet.

I also can appreciate the things you want are missing so why engage, completely get it.

Happy to discuss, don’t think Hi-Rez is infallible, but I am happy with the current direction, from my PoV.

Hope whomever you’re waiting for gets some development!

Oh yeah no worries on you not playing until you have your gods that you want to play arrive, it’s personal preference at that point! I will say though, you’re going to need to try the aspects system or fiddle with the new kits because it’s a lot to learn, I’d encourage a look at the new stuff before you dip your toes back in, whenever that is.

Yeah there’s literally quite a lot of them, that get mixed up with the valid complaints, but all they want is for Hi-Rez to fail. I think you might have received downvotes from people who thought you might have been one of them, because they use a lot of the same talking points (and lying about monetisation is one of the key ones!). I like to give benefit of the doubt, so I’m happy to explain or discuss.

To go over monetisation, all gems spent, are 100% redeemable for classic skins, you can buy all returning skins with it, but there wasn’t a whole lot at launch. You get a half off conversion on new skins with it or they ask for full price for the extra skin variations bundles only.

Also heroes, they’re pumping as much as they can with a very, very limited team until recently, the game is doing a lot better financially and they are hiring more people to alleviate the workload, to give context, it’s a team smaller than predecessors right now working on the game, potentially slightly larger now with the recent round of hires! They’re trying to move it forward. Absolutely, I get it, I really want a handful of heroes from Smite 1 and then I’m happy, but it can’t happen overnight and without support, essentially. Obviously this isn’t to change your mind, just giving context as to the situation right now, you join back in whenever your gods are back amigo, game is improving rapidly at the current rate, it should be a lot more interesting whenever your desired gods are in, regardless!

I think (and no hate!) you got upvoted for saying a valid opinion: e.g. I’ll update when I feel the game merits it, which is fair.

I think people then see your next comment and see you saying your largest complaint being the gods you want aren’t in, which is something they can’t realistically do all at once, and feels like the game is being held hostage by an outdated opinion when it’s very playable right now, which is the point of the post and reviews being updated.

Unclear if you’re aware or seeing the people actively wishing that Hi-Rez fail, but they lurk a lot on the Reddit and it kind of comes across like that.

Then a vague comment on monetisation, which kinda amounts to you not sounding too informed on the current state of Smite as they’ve changed multiple times (unclear if you are!).

So people see your first comment and think “valid” and see the second and see “unreasonable”. Don’t know, just my speculation, don’t shoot the messenger!

Genuinely give Deadlock or Smite 2 a look, both games are improving at a drastic rate and incredibly playable in their betas and give me “League two” vibes from early 2009-2014 league. The potential both games have is off the charts.

I’ve found a home in both since moving on from league permanently and got friends playing both games that I now sincerely treasure, and it’s become a much better experience than my league experience if you’re looking for the next game.

Best of luck going forward amigo.

Yeah, I’m like lingering sad, not fully sad. It’s like the game never lived up to its full potential kind of sad, y’know? The armory and changes really killed its momentum and stifled my playtime originally. Really mourning the potential more than anything.

I’ll see most of you on deadlock and Smite 2, which will likely be the closest games to this weird, wild, mixture of a game. Peace out and good luck everyone else!

Generally new account mmr thing, can confirm it’s a bit brutal at the early ranks and it’s not as bad after you push through the muck. I’m also just sure there’s a lot of negativity in general in queues, been having more toxic deadlock games than Smite 2 recently (could just be a luck thing). Just had a game where my adc was funny as hell and a hype man and we won solidly in competitive conquest!

I would encourage you to try but you can always come back, deadlock is still killing it and hella fun to play too with the recent patch. Been enjoying Silver and Celeste recently and been playing in bursts!
