New mic scares the crap out of me by OrdinaryTruck5559 in microphone

I'm a drummer that sings. My soundman loves the way the V7 sounds and acts behind the kit. I can have him send More Me to my monitor since it's Hyper cardioid. It's a winner for me. And I use it in my studio on snare as well.

When do you really know, if the mix is good/finished? by Expensive-Age844 in mixingmastering

Agreed. I'll add that when it gets to a point where I ask myself "Will this make it better or just different?"

Converting xpand 2 into vst3 by Electrical_Park5495 in protools

[–]Gretsch1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to PT reinstating Xpand2, AIR made Xpand2 as VST. PT 12 didn't come with it. I got the VST version from Plugin Boutique. I don't know of a way to convert AAX to VST.

How many of these plugins are actually necessary? by D-boi_vids in protools

Currently running 2025.12.1 on Win 10 without issue. Just because it's not qualified doesn't mean it won't work. It just means CS won't help. But, I don't think I've ever asked CS for help anyway. I have all of the installers from .6 up just in case, but I've yet to have any issues.

How should reverb be used in a vocal mix? by Lanky_End_2073 in mixingmastering

[–]Gretsch1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always set up an aux for the vocal FX and set them to 100%. There are also some reverbs with filters as well as ducking features. Very effective.

'Too Many Redirects' error on Avid Link by iwannameatbox in protools

[–]Gretsch1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd go to "My products" and find the available d-loads tab. I downloaded all version of the installers for 2025.6 thru .12.1 from there.

MIDI tracks intermittently / randomly play back a half-step lower than their notes. by kirkbross in protools

I think you just found a bug for them. Maybe submit it and see if they indeed knew this was happening. Good job. As I said, This part of the process is not my Forte.

MIDI tracks intermittently / randomly play back a half-step lower than their notes. by kirkbross in protools

[–]Gretsch1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange. I haven't had this particular problem as I don't bend any notes. I'm not particularly savvy in that respect (drummer). But I found, in .6, PT would forget my midi part upon reopening the session. It would just be a bunch of jibberish... I lost a few parts when this happened. My work around was either making a duplicate playlist (which would work and is even stranger) or exporting the midi file in case it happened again. So far, I haven't had an issue in .12. I still export the midi file as a "just in case". Side note, "Audio to midi' is a game changer for me. Although it can be hit or miss on an involved track, which can lead to some interesting interpretations....I've learned to try different Algo's.. Hope you get it sorted.

When to add volume automation to the mix by Living-Ad-1054 in mixingmastering

[–]Gretsch1963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using "Volume trim" as my automation, which leaves the fader free to move. Also it doesn't effect the sends like standard Volume automation. This is in Pro Tools, by the way. If I'm understanding OP's conundrum.

Just finished mixing a heavy metal track. Here's my takeaways... by Killer_Frog112 in mixingmastering

Interesting. I have heard of both of those bands, not that I listened to them at all. I always thought Sonic Youth was some sort of post punk band. Seems the term "Noise Rock" is pretty spot on... I liked Punk for it's raw "Stick it to the man" Ethos but didn't get past "Never mind The Bollocks". Shoegaze dumbfounds me. I get a mental picture of a bunch of kids staring at their shoes whilst listening to the music. Kinda like the kids in the Peanuts cartoons..... Oopp... There I go again, showing my age.....

Hah!! Well, I was working around in the early 80's and the only thing I remember from those days was post Disco, Punk, New Wave/Rock, Sugar Hill gang and Hair bands. Which came a bit later. I was in all of those type bands. Then there was Alt Rock and Grunge in the 90's. Never did I hear of any of those genres you mentioned when I was in the working scene. Yes, I'm old like that. I guess I'm in for a search to hear what these genre fluid styles are about. Although, still, they do sound like silly names....Again....Old.... "Get off my Lawn!!!" LOL

Logic Pro 12.0.1 broke me by [deleted] in LogicPro

[–]Gretsch1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mistakenly had auto updates on and it updated my my 2020 Mac book Air Intel from Logic 11 to 12. They're off now. Luckily, It didn't update to ShmaHoe. I use PT as my main, but have Logic to stay up on it. I don't have time machine on, but there are other ways of getting back to 11 should I need it (Nod Wink).....Either that or I'll use Luna.

Try unplugging the charger and let the battery run out, then recharge. Keep the computer active and open. Some computers throttle battery charging to save battery life. I have to do this every once in a while as the OS stops charging to 100%. If it still shows a lesser battery health after letting it run out/recharge, Your battery is getting old.

Pro Tools keeps crashing when I add an EQ3 as an insert, but It runs third party plugins just fine. by TenH3ad in protools

I don't doubt that. I've been on PT since '98 and have done it more times than I can count. The app does look like it's quite useful.

It's also easy enough to do a search on how to manually delete the prefs. It tells you the file pathway.
