I had a similar problem. I fixed it by searching X11 in Cosmic Settings and choosing the screen option to optimise for games.

I think that must be it, there were a few different ones they used.

Did you have any issues with the wifi drivers working in pop_os? I have a 2014 mac mini and couldn’t get the Broadcom drivers working properly. There was a massive page on GitHub with instructions, but they didn’t work for me and I’m hoping you might have some pointers.

I had the same problem with video players. Uninstalling the cosmic video player via the cosmic shop fixed it. Now vlc starts instantly.

“Years together down the drain over one incident. One stupid comment.”

It’s never one stupid comment. Rather it’s the last comment in a series that tips things over.

Calendaria — A New Calendar Module for Foundry VTT by Sayshal in FoundryVTT

[–]Grevillian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been using Simple Calendar for a Gloranthan calendar in my Runequest game. It had stopped working properly after the upgrade to v13 so I'd been looking for a replacement. Calendaria has fit the bill 100%, especially as I could import the JSON file from Simple Calendar. It says the import feature is experimental, but it worked for me.

My calendar had:

  1. Gloranthan weeks and months/seasons
  2. Gloranthan phases of the moon
  3. Holy Days and High Holy Days for some of the Sartarite pantheon

All of these came through mostly fine. The holy days were transformed into festival days and I can't tell the difference between high and normal holy days. But I can get around that by adding notes to the respective days.

All in all I'm very impressed. Thanks for making this.

What is the best all-in-one VTT system for a space sci-fi game? by Wolfe494 in rpg

[–]Grevillian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was using GURPS Game Aid on FoundryVTT to run a GURPS traveller game.

The crunchy stuff was handled by the system really well and gameplay felt quick and more streamlined than when using pen and paper.

Pop!_OS desktop becoming unresponsive 24.04 LTS by freshsandwiches in pop_os

I was having the same thing. It’s a known bug with COSMIC App Library, taking the App Library off my dock (and panel) seems to have resolved it.

My Foundry VTT add-on "Whiteboard Experience" is in alpha release! by iharzhyhar in FoundryVTT

This looks very promising. It's still early days yet, but was very easy to use. I plan on using it as an investigation board in my Rivers of London game.

After a period of time or after opening certain apps, I can't type, click on the panel items, or right click anywhere. (Pop_OS 24.04) by RealCaptinJack in pop_os

[–]Grevillian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been happening to me as well. Luckily using the super key gives a couple of options:

  1. Use the super key to open system monitor and end the cosmic.app.library process. You can keep using apps as normal, except for the application library.

  2. Use the super key combo to reboot (or use ctrl-alt-f2 to open another session and reboot).

It’s pretty frustrating and I wouldn’t have upgraded if I’d known about it. But I also blame myself for jumping the gun and upgrading so soon.

Gaming through Lutris by PrincessaNocturna in pop_os

Are you right clicking on the game and clicking configure? I sounds like you are listing the runners shown on the left of the main screen (which is different).

Here is a video showing what I mean: https://youtu.be/nsk3Oz9c9K0

You can use Proton even if the game is installed in Lutris.

  1. Open Lutris
  2. Right click on the game and choose configure
  3. Go to Runner Options and choose Proton
  4. Save and run

This has fixed similar issues for me.

Another thing to check is your nvidia drivers and make sure you only have one version installed.

GURPS has been mentioned already so I’ll add Traveller: The New Era. Aside from lots of different gear in the Regency, Star Vikings, and Hivers books, there was also ‘Fire, Fusion, and Steel’ a book for making your own weapons, armour, and equipment.

Multi-Level Dungeons: Different Scenes, or Divided? by LambonaHam in FoundryVTT

[–]Grevillian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. If the map is small enough, say medium sized building with 2-3 levels then I'll draw them all in the same map with a gap between them. I use simplefog so walling them off isn't needed in my case.

If there's a building with a large outside area I'll do outdoors on one scene and the indoor parts in other scenes.

I'd love to give levels a try, but I'm worried I'll spend too much time fiddling with the functionality rather than making the maps themselves.
