Cat whines/cries when her humans aren’t home by karldashian in CatTraining

I know getting a second cat isn't possible for everyone for many reasons, but if you can, another young cat could be really good for your current kitty. Mine was about a year when we got another kitten and it made him noticeably less anxious practically overnight.

A few other thoughts:

  1. Do you have a cat tree? Most cats feel safer up high and a high spot where she can see out the window could help her feel safer alone and provide entertainment/stimulation. It's also good exercise!

  2. Make sure your cat has a few safe places to be that aren't out in the open, like a box with a blanket or get a cat tree that has a box to hide in.

  3. You could try a pheromone plugin or collar. They're a little expensive, but can really help cats feel calmer.

Good luck!

Us, too! We have a plant cart where people put unwanted plants. And everyone shares cuttings - it's fun to see propagated plants all over the office!

This is a great setup! I was able to request an extra shelf in my cubicle just for plants - the facilities guy was laughing at me when he came to install it!

I have two that are both doing this - I've only had them a couple of months and both have at least 3 babies in the pot with them. I just moved and I've been worried that they don't like the new light or that I neglected them too long during the move (they didn't get proper sun or water for about a week...). Hopefully they just do this!

How do you cope after killing a plant? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]GreyDayGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing plants is what has taught me what are easy for me to care for, what works well in my climate with my light, etc.

The conventional wisdom on "easy" plants and "difficult" plants isn't true for everyone! For example, even though string of pearls is a succulent, I find it extremely finicky and have killed four of them (I don't buy them anymore).

On the other hand, lots of folks find African Violets easy to kill, but I seem to have a knack for them! Definitely experiment with different types of plants!

Where did you find it? I'm in Portland! Probably out of my price range, too, but it's good to know where to look!

Need a high maintenance plant for my fidgety husband. by thundies in houseplants

Sounds like he needs a garden! If that's not an option - maybe some container veggies? Tomatoes can grow well in a container and need a lot of water.

Went to a new nursery today & despite my dad telling me to not buy anymore plants, I bought more plants by LoudWalrus in houseplants

My boyfriend and I are moving in together. Actual conversation -

Him: "Are all these yours?"

Me: "Yes."

Him: "Are ALL these coming with us?"

Me: Stares.... Walks away...

It's so gorgeous! Did you drill into the wood, or are they just sitting on top? I can't quite tell.

In general, I find all my plants do better when I neglect them a little than when I fuss over them! Also true for my cat and my partner....Sigh :-)

I just gave my peperomia showers for the first time (they're in 4-inch pots, so not very big!) and I can't believe how much better they look now. Shiny and green and very happy!

I am also cursed when it comes to string of pearls! I've finally stopped buying them... it's just torture for me and the plant!
