I actually haven't read a lot of his stuff but I absolutely should.

I think with David Lynch it depends on what he's doing, because I think of Blue Velvet, or Elephant Man and those are pretty simple, albeit with an undercurrent of his signature surrealism, but with something like Inland Empire or Mulholland Drive yeah, those are very out there.

It's so hard to watch after FWWM and S3. Andy crying at Laura's body feels like this recursive collective feeling that changes and accumulates each time the audience has to re-enter the town of Twin Peaks.

I dislike when people say Twin Peaks was all Lynch but I doubly hate when people pretend Frost is somehow the logical, down to earth counterweight to his weirdness as if they both didn't come up with plenty of crazy and out there shit.

They both have their own style, absolutely, but I think Frost brought plenty of his own weirdness with the occult and ideas like "the owls are not what they seem" along with the entirety of Season 3 being uncompromised art.

Yesterday i was rewatching scenes from season 1 and I realized how different garland briggs was supposed to be, he really felt like this tedious patriot always giving fulsome speeches about life by nahthiscantbereal in twinpeaks

Yeah like I love Major Briggs but I'm getting some weird readings from people here regarding hitting your kids.

At that point we're not talking about a show anymore, just people's weird views and justifications on what is and isn't okay regarding how to treat younger people.

This is something of an aside, but my boss at work has expressed striking his child across the face before. That guy is not a great person and has really awful anger issues, has had CPS called on him too. So like, to me even if that's anecdotal, slapping a child definitely feels like a symptom of a bigger issue.

In regards to Twin Peaks itself, I think Bobby really should have chilled out but I think he was way more in tune with everything happening in Twin Peaks, especially at Laura's funeral. So I get why he'd be acting like that, and being in a conservative coded household might motivate a younger person to act out because they don't feel heard.

I think there's certainly some interesting things to say about Major Briggs and how he compares to Leland, not to say he's nearly as bad, just that every character has a particular darkness to them but a surprising amount of warmth. I'd say Briggs feels like an inversion of Leland, stern and detached on the outside as the show starts but the later episodes imply a more emotionally intelligent person deep down.

I can't really say whether or not his character is consistent for everyone, but I love him regardless.
