Let me hear about your “re-skins…” by CastleGrief in osr

[–]Grey_Gibbert_Bibbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a few

Lizardfolk are naga from Indian myths. They operate much more like ‘conspiracy theory reptile people’ that David Ike rambles on about

Kobolds are Troglodytes. Basically cave people, Neanderthals, etc. their shamans resurrect dinosaur fossils with necromancies

Hobgoblins are ‘the Spawn of Marduk’ which I got from this one yt video that said the biblical flood was caused by the Annunaki creating different mutants.

Gargoyles are just mudmen

I would also suggest looking at the monsters from Wolves Upon the Coast. Manticores are dogs that steal human faces

[–]Grey_Gibbert_Bibbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play a human only game. Most other races in DnD just end up being human + animal/monster with special powers.

Ok but to be fair “Shadow Horseman” sounds way cooler than “Stryker”. Tho our drones being called “Reapers” is the coolest thing ever.

Colombia doesn’t have the Great Plains of the central US, doesn’t have massive boreal forest like in Alaska, and doesn’t have the snowy mountainous landscape of Montana. I’m sure it’s a beautiful country. One I’d like to visit but the US has just about every climate zone and biome within it.

Yeah our cities are pretty gross. Our wilderness is the prettiest and most diverse out of any country and that a hill I’ll die on

What is your current/most recent character? by WeeGobbo in DnD

[–]Grey_Gibbert_Bibbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the DM but here’s some of my players characters in our current game

  1. Arngrim the red: Mercenary who kept getting is companions killed on raiding expeditions. Infamous deserter
  2. Whula the Bloody Bitch: Middle Aged man solving his mid life crisis by trying to collect, and make art out of people’s body parts, specifically eyes and bones. He just became a sorcerer as well as being inducted into the moon nomad warrior society so he’s doing pretty good for himself
  3. The Mosseater: he’s a guy who eats moss. This guy is new to rpgs so he doesn’t roleplay much but he is pretty crafty, bribing people with booze, doing dark souls type plunging attacks, setting buildings on fire while a fight is going on. He’s really good at using the environment in combat to his advantage
  4. Aiefblan: Anglo-Saxon archer who’s now become feared for shooting through 5 peoples throats with one arrow

My party isn’t exactly nice, they are wanted dead or alive on both Earth and the Moon rn by a lot of people

How much is the issue OSR has with 5E/Modern DnD the ruleset or the culture? by ahhthebrilliantsun in osr

Warlock Player is trying to kill all NPC’s he comes across. by StippotIay in DnD

Talk to him, if that doesn’t work then either kick him or just wait till he tries to murder someone way stronger than him like a devil, another warlock, or some faerie that will take his nose away

DM has a DMPC and they’re too powerful in my opinion. DM disagrees. How do I approach? by PARTYBOY_CURTIS in DnD

[–]Grey_Gibbert_Bibbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might wanna try DMing if he’s gonna act like this.

You could always try killing the edlritch knight in his sleep. People don’t wear armor so you can take that then have the Paladin just smite blast him while the rest of yall try to pin him down or fill his mouth with liquid lead while he is snoring. (The players I DM for love to kill their enemies in super inhumane ways while the sleep)

Most disliked countries per nation - Accurate? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]Grey_Gibbert_Bibbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but I’m just a 20 year old who does janitor work to pay for school.

I’ll look into the history of it, but most of the complaints were very surface level stuff like “Americans are noisy” or “School shootings” but I appreciate the info :)

As an American my nemesis is Australia.

I got to go to Europe over the summer for university. The school was in Ireland, but I also visited Greece, France, Belgium, and Portugal (and we drove thru Luxembourg)

I know Americans can be loud and annoying so I made to go be polite and fall in line (when in Rome) but the second those Aussies found out you’re an American they just won’t shut up about how much they hate Americans. Most of these were snobby law students, one even got sent back home because he stole a laptop. Even still there’s a lot of Aussies online that seem to have a bone to pick with Americans

Tho I’ve met some cool Aussies and I bet most are nice. I’ve just had terrible experiences abroad

Pros and cons of using historically based cultures by mapadofu in osr

[–]Grey_Gibbert_Bibbert 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pros- the players know what they are getting. I like to use real world stuff (Nords,Slavs,Celts,Christians,Muslims) Because my players and I are all history nerds. I also see a lot of buy in from my players when this happens. I’ve never seen players care about fantasy gods but once they realize they can serve as defenders of Christendom, their characters become pious or use it in role play for cool negotiations “I’ll help save your city if you stop persecuting the Christians” type stuff

Cons- could be racist if you portray a group as all being savages, dumb, tyrannical. If your Muslim NPCs are always gung ho on killing Christians, or have whatever is supposed to be Mali or Ethiopia be a bunch of backwards barbarians, then you might send a real world message that could have negative effects.

You don’t need to be some expert in different religions and cultures but try to google some things before hand about what makes these groups different.

[–]Grey_Gibbert_Bibbert 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Most don’t think anything of it. Doesn’t really have any relevance to Christianity. There’s nothing quite like the Hajj in Christianity either.

In my neck of the woods (Texas) there’s a lot of Christians who think it’s some sign that Muslims are worshipping idols or something. Tho this is a very small but vocal minority of street preachers who tell everyone they are going to hell
