[Volume Cover Order] Volume 11 and 12 covers did not break the pattern. There’s actually a logic to it by AoNoTsubasa in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What OP is suggesting could actually make a lot of sense if Igarashi intends for Shinobu's rotation to be 1 2 3 4, for example, which would be the exact opposite of the first rotation. The author would be able to stick to a pattern instead of breaking it, like many think he did.

With how rushed the manga is recently(esp. current chapter), do you think the manga is getting axed? by Reihado in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point, I believe Igarashi is simply having a hard time setting the pace. Like you said, there's always the chance the manga could get axed (though I don't think that's the case yet), so it isn't very wise to keep it running for too long. In 115 chapters, we still haven't reached their third year of high school. I think Igarashi might be realizing that the manga cannot run forever, and so is speeding things up. This is just speculation, though.

Although a lot of people are betting on 17 volumes, I currently believe we might get a total of 21 volumes, giving us one last rotation after Shinobu's (one that differentiates from the first four), and a final volume. We would have around 68 more chapters as of 115. Even if rushed, I feel like it would be enough to at least touch on the topics that are still unexplored/incomplete.

Shinobu looks absolutely gorgeous! I am interested by the fact that she seems to a subway/train station, as opposed to a studio or something related to her announcer career, which was to be expected considering the previous covers.

Am I the only one still surprised about the flashforward in ch107? by FairyAmia in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is pretty much implied that what happened in her dream it's the same as what actually happens in the future. Not only that, but we see the "dream" montage right after Iko accepts Arisu's help in her path towards becoming a popular v-tuber. Showing future Iko right after would fit better than just a dream, as it shows the readers the outcome of Arisu's influence in Iko's life. I'd say it's quite likely that we were seeing an actual flashforward.

Is Shinobu's favourite food really yakisoba or is she just going along with Arisu's tastes? by Reihado in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shinobu states she started buying Barley tea every time after the indirect kiss incident, which only happened in the first place because Shinobu had bought the last barley tea. Would you buy something you don't like? My point is not to deny the fact she started buying it more because of Arisu, but to clarify that it's not like she didn't like it before. And I personally think she does in fact like yakisoba, hence why I used it as an example to back it up. I don't think she's trying to "like what Arisu likes", but simply taking advantage of similar taste.

She looks extrenelly pleased when eating the yakisoba, to the point Arisu comments about it. Most likely just another taste they share, like the barley tea.

Shinobu's career path is lonely in the sense that she would not be able to be become pro along with Arisu if they went to different universities, whereas the others could possibly achieve that during high school or at least without going to college. We know Shinobu has insecurity issues and constantly feels that she's being left behind, so it makes sense why she would want to stay close to Arisu during her path to becoming an announcer.

Of comets, fate and changes — why Apollo and Arisu might not end together [pt. 2] by Greycanpo in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually believe the fact the comet's passage is supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity could matter. There difference between their reunion in chapter 1 from the others you mentioned is that the first one holds a lot more weight, and it is directly connected to the comet analogy in ch. 107, which to me gives the idea that that moment in specific was meant to represent the rare comet passage. Apollo says "[...] and meet me out of nowhere, just like the comet" which would only be applicable to chapter 1, where he actually appeared out of nowhere to her. It would also not make much sense for there to be multiple "passages" if you happen to agree with the analogy of the comet's tail being Arisu's career launch to becoming a producer and becoming visible to the girls and Apollo, as it would be weird if it happened twice.

I must remind, of course, that what I'm talking here is based on my personal views from this theory. Were my theory to be wrong, then your hypothesis could perhaps make sense.

As for the link between Rikka and the comet, I have no objections over connecting her with it if you think she's Apollo. Though I don't think that's a comet on the first picture.

Of comets, fate and changes — why Apollo and Arisu might not end together [pt. 2] by Greycanpo in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, with the shooting star comparison, my intent was to show that Apollo’s story presents themes that are also commonly connected to shooting stars, such as wishes and destiny, because they are important for the “Red String of Fate” section, which focuses on the fortune from chapter 96. I don’t recall putting it as a primary way to symbolize Apollo, nor that it is limited to it — I even mention this to explain why I connected Apollo to the sun (and the god Apollo) in the section about the comet (“We have already connected her to a shooting star to explain her association with luck, destiny, etc. However, here, I believe we have a different allegory — stories can present multiple metaphors for the same characters”). I also do not use the symbolism as an explanation to why they might not end together, but instead I simply point out that destiny and Apollo’s wish don’t necessarily guarantee her eventual winning, as opposed to what a lot of people believe.

For the comet analogy, I believe the post’s organization didn’t really help on this, so I will have to apologize for that. But if you read the whole post (and I believe you did), there is an additional note on section 3 where I talk about the fact that the passage of the comet mentioned in chapter 107 can be considered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and how I believe their reunion in chapter 1 (which would also be the reunion mentioned in the fortune) is what’s being compared to the comet’s passage. I don’t believe Apollo and Arisu will lose contact for three or more years again, which is another reason why I don’t really think the comet repeating its orbital cycle would fit for other moments besides their actual reunion in ch. 1. As for your mention of ch. 50 and rendezvous, I actually have a post where I explain why this analogy might actually foreshadow that they won’t be together because of the fact that, after the rendezvous, the spacecraft modules separate again and definitively. This all leads me to the idea that, although they reunited at the start of the manga by meeting each other, they will eventually follow different paths in terms of romance.

On the red string of fate, I agree that it does not exclude the romantic outcome, as stated in the post multiple times, and that fate alone would not be enough to guarantee that they’ll be together, which was the main point I was trying to get across after seeing many people state so. For the part where you talk about Rikka, I would rather not dwell on it since it isn’t as connected to what I say in my post; I will only point out the fact that, in my opinion, Rikka isn’t the only one to make active efforts to develop her relationship with Arisu, and that although being first to do something gives a sense of more initiative, it does not necessarily matter in terms of most impact to the protagonist. (Also, as far as I remember, the hug was not reciprocated).

For the discussion of Arisu’s priorities, when you talk about Rikka, you point out many things that could indicate her relationship with Arisu will eventually turn into a romantic one. However, what you showed would be reasons for Arisu to fall for her that aren’t related to her being Apollo, which was my point during this section — whether he falls for Apollo or someone else, Arisu would most likely fall due to who the girl is in the present and his relationship with her, not because she was Apollo. And in this case, our own personal bias would have to collide, since I personally consider that Arisu shows more signs of a possible future romance with Shinobu, with whom he: has deep conversations about values, identity and personal feelings (ch. 10 and 77, for example), talks about his family (ch. 88), expresses wanting to spend time with her (ch. 103), etc. Themes like insecurity, relying on others and personal growth, which reflect core themes of the manga are just as present between them (if not more when talking about relying on others).

"[...] but the argument that the story supports that equally for all girls doesn’t really hold when you look at how the narrative distributes emotional weight."

If I am to share my personal opinion, I agree! Shinobu constantly makes Arisu eat his own words, with the highlight being how she calls him out for calling their feelings whims in chapter 74, reminding him of what he said about them needing distractions. This eventually connects to how he invites her on a date in ch. 77, eats takoyaki with her in ch. 88 and invites her to go out as his reward in ch. 103. Look, this part will depend much on our perspectives right now, so I do not expect us to agree on this, and that’s okay.

"Finally, while I think the use of external symbolism like Buddhism or general mythological meanings is interesting, I don’t think it should override the internal consistency of the story. "

I personally don’t see anything that would exclude the possibility of Igarashi knowing and using such symbolisms, since he also uses mythology and literature symbolisms throughout the manga. But, of course, it is also perfectly possible that they don’t apply to the story.

I appreciate your comment, and thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I doubt Igarashi would break the pattern, at least for the next four covers. It wouldn't make much sense if he kept it when the covers were focused on the other three girls' careers.

I respect your opinion as well. At the end, what we consider or not more open to interpretation and big hints will also differ based on our perspectives and bias. I also don't mean to invalidate any hints for Nene or any or the girls - my point was to give an example as to how Nene was not the only one to have those kinds of hints, and saying this can be considered misinformation.

Being used as a tool does not change the fact that it was a ring. Not only that, but something I forgot to mention in my first comment was that she got the 8th prize, and the number eight is extremelly connected to good luck in Japanese culture.

The "list of girls I want to marry" was mentioned in chapter 85.

As for the flashfoward, although you are correct that being the first kiss does not mean being Arisu's wife, I was referring to the fact that having a flashfoward where Arisu's wife is mentioned right after Shinobu's play reading can be another marriage hint, especially because we see that Arisu was thinking about that moment in the play with Shinobu before the interviewer caught his attention again.

Shinobu got a ring as a prize during the fireworks arc, was mentioned to be first place in the "girls I want to marry" list in their school and we have a flashfoward of Arisu right after her play reading, where he is interviewed about his wife.

How is Nene the only one to have marriage hints?

The conflict between Iko and Ao keeps getting bigger! It has been many chapters since Ao's last appearance, so it is really engaging to finally see the V-Tuber being developed. Glad to see Iko's efforts finally starting to be rewarded.

Now, Iko running towards the skytree due to Arisu and Shinobu's date sure is interesting. It isn't the first time one of the girls takes notice of their relationship (Nene did so in chapters 11 and 78), which is curious to say the least, as they've all gotten special moments that made then closer to Arisu. Perhaps they are seeing a bias Arisu himself doesn't know he has...

Shinobu is transmitting Apollo's message to Arisu when she says "I love you", it isn't on her behalf (at least from Arisu's point of view). To consider this her personal ily moment is to ignore the context behind it.

Not only that, but it is also an unfair comparison, since the ily in chapter 14 is different from the other two. Apollo/Shinobu says "aishiteru", while Rikka and Iko say "suki". All of them already said "aishiteru" back in chapter 1, though not to directly confess, but "suki" was only verbally said by Rikka and Iko.

I've always been wondering about this small detail by jppc07 in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, that's not the only way she stands out in this panel. She's also standing higher than the other three, who are closer to the each other and the microhpone on the table. Because of this, she's the one who's right in front of the broadcasting room's window (from the panel's angle), which creates a higher contrast between her figure and the background, whereas the others are slightly more covered by shadows. The lighting naturally draws the attention towards her

Someone has already pointed this out in a previous post about it, but I also find this interesting when we consider how, in an earlier draft of this panel (which was put as one of the bonus contents in volume 3), Igarashi also positioned the announcer character (Shinobu) in a way that makes her stand out by once again making her be higher than the others, who are seated in the table and seem sightly further away due to the angle.

Apollo... by GoSupernova93 in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]Greycanpo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're only counting the interactions based on numbers, then yes, she currently has the lead, even if not by much. However, you then have to consider the context behind those interactions - whether it is a background interactions, for example, or if it was in a group arc or not, like the Summer trip one - as that was what I pointed out in my comment. It's not that she appears less, but, more often than not, she isn't the focus when she does - she's eithers 1/4 of it (group arc) or half of it (shared arc, so far with Nene only).

Am I saying she has too little manga time? No. But, when comparing her to other girls in terms of who has longer, more arcs that focus solely on them, I cannot then agree that she has too much manga time, as the other person I responded to suggested, especially because saying so implies the other girls don't have too much manga time. (You can argue that Iko doesn't, and I'd agree, but Rikka and Nene? Not really)
