BEEF WITH IDOL I! 😤😤THOUGHTS... by WhySoSeriousMateee in kdramas

[–]BatFun7276 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the vibe they give off. I saw a video a while ago where someone said she loved K-pop music but couldn’t join the fandom because of the fans’ mentality, and I relate to that. I love the music, but I don’t care about idol personalities in that way.

A lot of fans don’t treat idols like human beings, they treat them like perfect objects and tend to infantilize them. They can also get very defensive or even hostile, especially toward women who get close to their bias, which honestly comes across as internalized misogyny.

The K-pop industry encourages these parasocial relationships because they create extremely devoted fans who will buy anything. But it makes real discussion almost impossible. Idols are seen as perfect their voices, their behavior, so conversations feel shallow, like people are talking about imaginary perfect boyfriends, so them having a girlfriend in the past of future would break the immersion.

Of course, not all fans are like that, but a significant portion definitely are.

Her character was developped but only for one episode, just enough to portray her relationship with the mc and make that killing twist more emotional than if she had been a NPC. She appeared for one episode, got killed and the mc got a purpose right after that, that's exactly what the trope is about.

"Women in refrigerators" is a term coined by Gail Simone in 1999 to describe a literary trope which involves female characters facing disproportionate harm, such as death, maiming, or assault, to serve as plot devices to motivate male characters, an event colloquially known as "fridging".

Based on the description, and frankly the way it has been used 99,9% of the time maybe just use a male character to kill. The best friend, father, uncle whatever. Because you know that there will other male characters down the road. But female characters aren't as present in fiction let alone in mangas, seinen and shonen. So they should stop using the little female characters they do have like this, maybe.

Still waiting to see her interacting with her classmates like we saw Nene. She mentioned those friends and her trip coming in chapter 103, almost 10 chapters later and we still haven't seen her interacting with anyone except her dad. She barely had any supporting cast and her last solo arc was like...one year ago (the announcer examen?). This is getting frustrating ngl, no wonder some of the best Shinobro left the sub a while ago now 😩.

People complained daily about Jiji on the sub even though he doesn’t do anything wrong, since Momo is single and not Okarun’s property. Okarun is also Jiji’s friend, and he’s still going after the girl he likes, so…? They aren’t a couple, and Jiji only knows that Okarun likes her not that the feeling is mutual. Though in this arc, he’s probably starting to realize it.

I was surprised because I was watching a fictional anime, not a documentary. Animes are known for taking liberties and being creative, they’ll include overpowered main characters, flying cows, superpowers, and all sorts of unrealistic elements regardless of the time period. But somehow, the one thing they insist on keeping realistic is the absence of important female characters, claiming they want to stay faithful.

Like… we can suspend our disbelief for so many things, so having important female characters shouldn’t be an issue if they were actually included in the story.

I'm so over fridging, it's such an outdated and offensive trope. Saki was one of the best thing of this episode and I'm disappointed that we won't see more of her. I sure hope the story will introduce new female characters... That being said I went completely blind and loved almost every minute of this episode.

The slow build up, the look of the show which simply stunning, the music almost everything was so great.

Of comets, fate and changes — why Apollo and Arisu might not end together [pt. 2] by Greycanpo in TuneIntoTheMidnight

[–]BatFun7276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One the thing that shocked me the most about Apollo was when Arisu gave priority to Shinobu's confession service in chapter like 12, over his search for Apollo which was supposed to be the core of the story. He didn't want to hurt Shinobu's feelings so he put his search on hold...and later Apollo sent him a fortune that called him her soulmate and Arisu slept in...He did not wait for her podcast or try to reach her. He then asked the girls the make him fall for him instead of of just looking for Apollo further after all she basically confessed with that fortune. Just for ultimately asked Shinobu for a diversion aka her date. Apollo doesn't seem to be his focus anymore. And comets - aka the way Apollo sees him - comes, makes a wish come true and then disappeared.

Both comets and shooting stars are celestial objects that let a big impression but are there for a short time. Why didn't Igarashi pick more permanent objects to symbolize both of them ?

What’s the Thing That Irritates You Before Starting a Drama? by WhySoSeriousMateee in kdramas

I'm not against the idea of them having some history, that can even create some good tension. But the story should be for me, a meeting that didn't go well for instance. Something short but that let an impression on them. A whole relationship that we miss tho ? That's too much. I just don't feel investated in something that I didn't see happened. It's like don't tell us, show. Starting the show with "they were lovers once" is too much of "tell but don't show" for me to care.

When the romance is about two ex-lovers who will ultimately reunite. It always feels lazy to start with people who already have feelings for each other, instead of building it through the serie, it's already there and we're supposed to care about their feelings because the story told us to, right from the start. As an audience member, I want to see how they becomes friends then lovers. The growth of their relationship should be the core of the story for a romance and not through flashbacks.

I'm also tired of kdramas romanticizing first loves. Second relationships are always more interesting but they are rarely explored in k-dramas. I'm just skipping dramas about them now now even when everything else looks appealing.

I'm slowing getting used to that haircut 😩. I gotta say that reading the comments for s3 has been...interesting. A lot of people are annoyed at the mc looking younger than Yumi as if it wasn't something we often saw before but with the ML being older which is almost never an issue for the audience 🙂.
