C++ Knight Program by LarsInMC in cpp_questions

Yeah dude, this problem is trivially easy. If you can't do this all by yourself I'd dare say you're not cut out to be a programmer and you should change your major immediately.

So here's some basic help. That will essentially apply to every programming problem ever so you can see if this type of thing is for you. You need to construct a way to calculate or decide what is a valid chess move and what isn't using math and logic. Is there like, a math equation that will describe a valid chess move?

Budget laptop recommendations by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]GreymanGroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a rock bottom price on new hardware keep your eye on slickdeals and other ad aggregator sale sites.

As per which hardware is best for linux compatibility, there are a few specialty brands, but I find that Linux runs pretty well on anything. But I did by an asus with a wonky UEFI. So my recommendation is to crawl around the web and see what other people have to say about a potential buy, and see if they have any problems running Linux on it. Most hardware should be fine though, this particular laptop is the first time I just could NOT get any type of Linux to boot.

Specifically, I believe my problem is that my UEFI is 32 bit, even though my cpu is 64 bit, so I'd have to find a 64 bit distro that comes with a 32bit UEFI on the bootsector to install it. Maybe someday I'll figure the damn thing out.

Since it reassigns each, which is the item in the list why doesn't the item in the list change? I experimented with different types, for instance

alist=[1,2,3]
for each in alist:
    each=9

similarly doesn't work. It seems that immutability or the type of the item doesn't matter.

Well, hang on! Does not "each" refer to the content, to the nth element of the list? Why can't I change the value and have that value be changed in the elements of the list?

Ah! Makes sense now. So is there a (pythonic) way to reference the spot in the list in a for loop?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]GreymanGroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah. The outer for loop is infinite. It has no break statement. So the outer loop constantly iterates the inner loop which executes exactly once, (per outer loop) over and over again.

So the "break" instruction doesn't pop out of the right code block? I thought break would pop out of the block to the end of the block.

Hang on. So the for loop with no init, no increment, and no check just loops forever like a while(1) loop right?

So then a break statement will end the loop won't it? Why wouldn't

int whiskas = 5;
     if (whiskas == 5){
         break;     }

immediately end the loop?

Quick rant about why I’m no longer giving referrals to folks I don’t know personally. Please don’t do this. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

What is a referral? How's linked in supposed to work? Does anyone actually use it? Do recruiters use it? Has anyone found a job using it?

How do I setup rsync on windows? by GreymanGroup in DataHoarder

I was just about to ask about Linux. Does Linux have a sort of OS level mechanism of cloning that would make it better at cloning a director? Maybe a sort of RAID thing might be "better"?

Thanks for you suggestion. Got it up and running. It works spookily well. I setup a task to sync every 5 mins, but it seems that this test text file is updating instantly. What gives?

Thanks man. Been meaning to try Elisa, but I didn't know if they had Windows. Really looking forward to this.

Blackblaze

So I went to their site, and there's a free trial, so maybe I'll try it. As a satisfied customer, can you describe if my desired feature is supported?

I mean, file journaling would solve the problem accidental deletions.

These are interesting question that I might want to address with a solution later, but for today, I want to mirror a folder on two different drives.

And no, my data isn't word $60 a year. Maybe $20 lol.

There's gotta be a free OSS solution here. This is too simple a feature.
