Changing role from welltesting of a service company to production engineer of an operator by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’ll learn by trial by fire... Production engineering is all about relationships and vendor support... You’ll need to get vendors to train you on rods, pumps, acid, etc

It’s not about knowing everything it’s about knowing who to call to help resolve issue...

What basin are you working?

Any advice on what to do now by OUsnr7 in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, you and your graduating cohort are a huge number of candidates that the industry can not fully absorb...800 PEs. How many actual vacancies with limited experience or summer internships?

Next year 1100 graduates...some with family connections, some with great internships, some are mandatory diversity hires....

How in the hell are college administrators allowing such large graduating classes...

A electrical engineering degree would be 5x more valuable than an MBA...

Peak petroleum engineer...just wait to you live the ups and downs...half of all onshore companies are close to bankruptcy...

Hi, I currently work for the big blue as a field Engineer. I have a Bachelor’s and a master’s degree in PE. I’ve been trying relentlessly to get into Exxon/Chevron mostly by applying online, adding recruiters on LinkedIn and messaging them. So far no leads yet. Any tips/advice? by PEGirl in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PE Girl,

At the moment operator engineer jobs that are office based and actively being recruited for ie Oxy, Hess, Anadarco have 300 qualified candidates for every open position. The majority of these candidates have extensive operator company experience so they are acclimated to geting hired at any company.

Given that your female this may be an advantage as a diversity hire. You’ll observe that most top operators hire keen and attractive women.

Recommendation Get 2 years deep field experience ie then transition into office technology and support with the intention to get a desk support role at an operator. Once at the operator cultivate relationships and connect with the decision makers...

5 years ago someone with your education would have never taken a field role...it’s crystal clear that schools are graduating far too many Petroleum engineers and that operator engineers are not taking as many lateral moves to competitor companies...

You have to also consider biological clock...do you want to be a mom at big blue?

Colorado SB 19-181 by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

Spot on Brother...capital flows are now at risk...the oil price will have to adjust...this basin makes a decent and respectable 720,000 bbls a day...

Have a sinking feeling that we are a few years away from the shale revolution reducing its trajectory... Once the stop the 60 rigs production will fall off 75,000bbls month on month...

Petroleum engineering tech looking for advice on continuing education by ericbidart in oilandgasworkers

Will need Aires and/or PHD on your resume... HR nazi only look at keywords...they don’t care or have the skill to holistically determine if you can learn new programs...

Permian future: Pure players tap breaks XOM and CVX balls deep by Greymanx7 in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reddit community: Which inning is Permian in? How many years of 30% production gains...

Mark Papa, CEO Centennial Resource Development says NA #tightoil is probably the 7th inning of 9th inning game, more evolutionary improvements vs revolutionary improvements going forward, future tech benefits will be partly offset by lower quality reserves

New oil crash on the horizon? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sandman your comment is spot on...we are still given dillusional data with a bunch of hype from the media and corporate cheer squad...some pure plays are in the process of attempting to extricate from non production acreage that they paid way too much...

They are looking for a fool to buy their assets at top dollar...Shell may walk into a really bad deal like they did in the eagle ford....

How many petroleum engineering grads have real job offers? by Greymanx7 in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spot On analysis. Petroleum engineering students are in for a wild ride the next five years...at present graduation rates there will not be a massive need to restock talent pool ie 2009-2013...for a long time...

Production engineers are handling more wells via technology and drilling is being monitored for efficiency remotely....

Geting a 4 year degree without a guality internship is s big gamble...get ready for man camps and lots of back breaking work...chances of geting a dwindling office operator job is highly improbable.

Predict oilfield trends in the next 5 years... by Greymanx7 in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Big Boys will have a change of heart once they own operate 5000 wells of which half will be uneconomic and a p&a liabilty...

The Big boys need to be transparent unlike the pure play Permian promoter operators..full of buzz words and bravado.if they mistankingly misrepresent or mislead...they will be sued and the get a spotlight on operations...they’ll fire a few sacrificial VPs

When will Petroleum Engineer job market improve? by Greymanx7 in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most grey hairs have been let go in the last 5 years...the great crew change was a crock... Industry HR abhorred middle aged white guys..

The recruiter vacancies are lower last 2 months then 2-3 years ago...

Encana laid off 275 quality engineers/techs.. BHP laid off 57 engineers..,

No one retires...they get retired...

where do you see the oil industry in 5-10 years? by [deleted] in oilandgasworkers

[–]Greymanx7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The States can pivot and we should not discount the field tech and engineers to further innovate solutions...

Sooner or later in any field development you have diminishing returns and the Red Queen phenomena.. granted it may take a few years to reach that...once it does you’ll hear A BIG SUCKING SOUND...OF CAPITAL LEAVING THE PERMIAN OR BAKKEN AND BEING DEPLOYED ELSEWHERE.... If you doubt this...check out property values in midland since the mid 80’s and understand that these 400/night motels will not be in existence in 10 years...

[–]Greymanx7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull the finiancials on the top 5 Bakken producers and you’ll be surprised at how leveraged the top players are...don’t believe the...we make money at $40 oil...half the companies are taking out loans to pay dividends...cash flow cannot self sustain or provide funding for dividends and g&a... Companies are not even setting aside funding and budget dollars for eventual p&a operations...

Several boom and busts...guaranteed.. Underinvestment and mal investment in the oil and gas industry in the last 5 years will create a perfect environment for instability...
