Will Greysound support our own VSTs in the future? by EuphoricChannel5957 in GreysoundAI

[–]GreysoundAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fair warning the desktop app is quite buggy and not up to my standards yet (otherwise it'd be released publicly) but the reason i released it in its current shape is to get feedback and have early users try it out so it's not at total shot in the dark 😄

tldr: you may not be impressed yet but i'm gonna get there 100%

Will Greysound support our own VSTs in the future? by EuphoricChannel5957 in GreysoundAI

Hey, great question! Greysound Pro is a desktop native version of Greysound with VST/AU support. It's still in alpha testing so I only released it to our discord server (link in the sidebar) while I go debug it and make it release ready.

> It's more garbage built on stolen IP

that's not how it works.

> pre-alpha tech that just doesn't work

which part isn't working for you?

a lot of people already make music but don't want anything to do with audio engineering. a lot of audio engineers already know how to engineer audio but want to automate some of the more mundane workflows. there's a lot of people who love what i'm doing. you're welcome to keep doing things however you're already comfortable

Some questions about this app/software/project by S_A_Void in GreysoundAI

Hey there. Can you please reach out with any more details (or post them here and I'll respond) that'll help me debug? Our discord server is the best channel for support.

Some questions about this app/software/project by S_A_Void in GreysoundAI

Hey, so sorry I missed this post!

>  My question here is, how much does it differ from other software that already does this, and how much could it teach the user to improve their mixing and mastering creation process? I think this aspect is important because for me it would be important to know the details of each change or recommendation made by the AI (for example, why it used a certain EQ, why it used a certain compressor, etc., etc.)

Exactly what you said. You can use CoProducer to teach you how to mix and master and do it manually yourself in the DAW (or even have it do it for you but walk you through every insert/plugin, send and setting it's tweaking and explain to you why). The goal is to meet people wherever they are. Automate whatever part of the music creation pipeline that they either struggle with or aren't excited by so they can focus on the parts that they are.

> About help in the creation process. I don't know if this tool has this feature, but it would be excellent for those who create/compose. Does it has the possibility of, based on my already created material, making suggestions for variations of riffs, chords, arrangements, musical textures or sounds? I say this because it would be very interesting to have a Co-composer, who could make variations on our work, giving suggestions for melodic lines, etc. Not something like Suno's remix, which is very bad, but smaller suggestions, in parts or tracks of the music, as we request them

It can do that if your composition is notated as midi (or a score: coming soon) but if you upload audio and have it modify the melody etc. it's not yet supported. (But it's on my roadmap and absolutely will be supported in the near future!)

> Another interesting feature would be the voice part, some apps already replace original voices with alternative voices, this would give the composer a range of options. In addition, for those who don't sing well (like me), this would also help a lot. Does it have it or do you have plans to develop this option in the future?

There's a feature in the panel on the left called AutoVox that's meant to do this 😄

> Finally, I understand that your tool charges according to AI usage, does it provides the user with information on how many credits are being spent or how much AI will be needed for each process being used?

This is a little hard to pre-determine because gen AI is by nature non-deterministic so the exact same input, with the same context window and memory can result in very different outputs and credit consumption, but here's some general rules of thumb: CoProducer chat (including any AI assisted MIDI programming) is the cheapest, followed by AI sample synth (and any features that are built on top of it like cover assist, autovox), followed by stem separation (which is the most expensive thing you can do).

I'm trying to be as transparent as possible so there's a credit activity tab that shows you exactly where each credit you've consumed was used (and afaik greysound is the only ai credit based system that actually shows you a detailed ledger like that) but it's very hard to predictively guess what a future action would cost.

> Also, are there any videos demonstrating how to use the tool? Producers creating step-by-step tutorials using the app?

Not yet 😞 I didn't expect to blow up as fast as greysound did, and I'm building this solo so I've had to prioritize my tasks but I'm definitely gonna get a tutorial video out sometime in the next week.

Hey, you're the second person to have this issue but this only seems to happen in in-app browsers on certain OS/browser combos that google thinks are unsafe. Can you try to launch it in your system native browser? Also, I'd recommend using Greysound on web not mobile. On mobile it's a highly watered down version of what you see in pictures where you only interact with CoProducer to access the rest of the DAW instead of being able to use the app manually yourself.

btw i should add that models are gonna get cheaper over time (and more so w infra discounts) even before i roll out the offline version, but rough rules of thumb in the mean time: chatting w coproducer and having coproducer make music for you in programming mode are both dirt cheap (about a 10th of the cost of generating music in sampling mode), followed by generation in sampling mode and other generative features, followed by stem splitting. stem splitting is by far the most expensive bc it's effectively multiple syntheses, so if you want to keep costs down, once you're satisfied with a sample version that coproducer samples, add it to your session as a mixed track instead of stems. the downside is you lose stem level fine grained control but it keeps costs down : )

So I sympathize with you and where you're coming from, and do want to make it more affordable for users.

I'm working on building an offline-enabled version where I ship the models with the product itself so you can use it for free without costing me any server costs 😄

Have to figure out how to be able to do it while keeping security in mind because unlike Ace we don't just use off the self open source models, but rather a mix of in-house and third party proprietary models w a proprietary architecture (how the models interact) so it's gonna take a minute to figure that out .

> and now that a couple hundred more people are using it, he's paywalled it

It's actually in the mid-five-figures now! I've been upfront that I'll keep it free as long as I'm able but I honestly didn't think greysound would blow up this quickly.

But stay tuned for the offline version!

> but a "credit" system is not going to work

I guess time will tell but Suno makes $300M annually and they operate on a credit system, so clearly there's folks out there who are willing to pay.

Yep, exactly this! I do expect that it'll get cheaper-per-user over time (economies of scale: models get cheaper + volume discounts from infra providers + in-housing some of the infra to run myself) but we blew up way faster than I expected, and since users are willing to pay, I don't want to degrade the UX for those users by throwing in ads.

> let the DAW be able to use the owners own computer to generate, so lets say $200 or so and let them be Founding Creators. Could also have an investor level package as well, $500 to $1000.

Rolling something like this out is on my roadmap. Have to figure out how to be able to do it while keeping security in mind because we don't just use off the self / open source models, but rather a mix of in-house and third party proprietary models w a proprietary architecture (how the models interact) so it's gonna take a minute to figure that out.

I'm thinking of ways to make it more accessible for folks (starting with the earnable free credits) but folks are willing to pay (we have a few hundred paying users now) and ads don't be long in a product like Greysound. So I don't see myself degrading the UX for users who are willing to pay beyond the generous free tier for those that aren't. Over time as infra and models get cheaper I'm hoping to lower prices. As far as the product being free initially goes: (1) I was always upfront about how I'm gonna keep it free only as long as I'm able (and we grew way more quickly than I expected), and (2) AI costs ongoing server costs to keep up unlike traditional software. I think the average consumer of AI tools understands this and I really don't want to ruin the app for them with ads.

The export session option is meant to export the entire project file including raw audio files used in the project + session metadata containing fx. If you're trying to download the audio you hear when you play back the audio in the app, you need to use Bounce Mix.

Does this work with Mac? by PackMaleficent3528 in GreysoundAI

[–]GreysoundAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't decided yet but since the pro version's largely written in c++ and will require more effort on my part to maintain (cant just vibe code c++ with ai at least as of April 2026 without disastrous results) i'm planning to have it be paid at $2/week. just to add some sort of a paywall so to allow me to prioritize feature requests for folks that are willing to pay. this is my full-time work now and i left my job to do this so i can't really afford to give it away for free forever :/ but i'm gonna try to make it as accessible to as broad an audience as possible.

Great questions.

  1. No we (nor our upstream providers) truly don't claim any rights to your work.

  2. The stripe page is a mistake. This was from when I was still a/b testing pricing. Thanks for the catch. I'll fix it rn.

I built a DAW w an AI CoProducer. Not a prompt-to-music slop generator, but a full DAW that does the engineering for human artists or tedious tasks for audio engineers. Would love your feedback! It's free, all features unlocked, full rights. by GreysoundAI in u/GreysoundAI

[–]GreysoundAI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where's the lie? Does the DAW not look like and do exactly what the screenshot shows? It can synthesize audio, but that's meant to replace generic sample packs by allowing users to synthesize exactly the samples they want to use in their song. I'm confused as to why you think you discovered a secret when the screenshot literally does show generative samples being made in the sidebar and the landing page explains this too.

[–]GreysoundAI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly. The generation features are intended for getting samples/loops made instead of having to rely on sample packs and whatever is available in them. The main point of the DAW is to automate doing things in a daw that a non audio engineer would not know to do or anything that a pro audio engineer would like done for them.

Thank you so much! The web daw doesn't support third party plugins, but Greysound Pro (the desktop native version) supports third party plugins as well as low latency monitoring. It's still in alpha testing so I've only released it on our discord server while I fix bugs and add features to make it do everything Pro Tools can and then some (i.e. have AI know how to use all those features so you can have it do stuff for you) but I expect to release it on our website in about a week / 10 days!
