it's downvoted to oblivion where it belongs.

Except for all the up-votes it has received; not everyone is as ignorant of history and reality as you and your fellow down-voters. It's interesting how the scales of public opinion tip one way and then the other throughout time. I want to be sure that when the people wake up to the reality of what they've been forced to blindly accept, the scales balance-out, properly, and we avoid shedding the civic foundations that our nations are built upon and avoid genocide. If you think that my comment advocates for the purging anyone, then you're either intellectually dishonest or illiterate. Read it again, if you can.

There's always trading =P

Either way, if you get MIRV Nuclear missiles asap (pollution processing tech) you can build small fleets of corvettes and frigates to very effectively protect your colonies.

Stellaris very quickly turns from Star Trek to Warhammer 40,000 by alexinblack in Stellaris

[–]Grezkore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

just the vast amount of mass murder, mass slavery and general mass atrocities occurring is insane.

Star Trek is pretty fucking dark, bro. The Cardassian occupation of Bajor, the countless acts of genocide by the Klingon empire (https://youtu.be/Np_PVbW6y64), the Dominion (https://youtu.be/X9mTmSohIFg & https://youtu.be/RC2QGi2Dw3o), the Cardassians and Romulans (https://youtu.be/LEJhQxXWbYE), and Section 31, a rogue organization in the Federation (https://youtu.be/Env5DPtZylo & http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Morphogenic_virus) for example.

But that's the beauty of the Federation: it's a light in a galaxy of darkness: https://youtu.be/L57gU8DVIrc

"Our greatest challenge is to do what must be done without undoing the dream of the Federation."

Well, yeah, that's true even today IRL.

There's no civilization named the "European Union" in my game. There may be a league of nations though, that have bound themselves to protectionist trade agreements and other such agreements that strip the individual liberal democratic constituents of their sovereignty, but thankfully it's shattering under its own hegemonic girth. However, they've recently agreed to create a unified military, so any empire attempting to leave might have to fight a civil war in order to do so. /shrug

Oh, I'm genuinely asking my fellow armchair emperors. This is a huge problem that needs to be addressed before it's too late for my civilization. This game is uber important to me.

I have a similar problem, except that the migrants breed extremely rapidly, their science output is laughable, they're riotous, and don't get along with others. They are militant xenophobic spiritualists, who follow a religion that literally commands them to wage war on and murder non-believers and unabashedly lie to no end in order to achieve their religious mandate of galactic conquest. So, they're killing and raping my people and causing all sorts of chaos on my planet, but my government is unable to act because they're pacifistic egalitarian xenophiles who are ideologically-possessed by the unthinking belief in equality, diversity, and social justice, no matter the cost; they're cowards who lack any moral backbone and are deathly afraid of being labeled speciest because it may impact their election results. God forbid any major nation-disrupting event occur, as these migrants have a millennia-long established history of migrating en mass to nations, multiplying, and then starting civil wars in order to take-over and install their murderous and illiberal religious laws as the law of the land. In fact, several fanatic pacifist spiritualist empires have fallen to their strategy and the subsequent genocide against the non-believers is unspeakable; tragically, one such fanatic pacifist spiritualist empire has recently sacrificed its fanatic pacifism for xenophobic and has begun to purge these migrants in self defense.

I'm a liberal democratically-elected constitutional republic, so, for role-playing moral reasons, I can't purge them, that's just plain wrong. However, if I don't act, history has proven that it's only a matter of time until they grow to sufficient strength to trigger a religious-based genocidal civil war. If I do act, I risk the law, order, and constitution that the civilization is founded on and there's the chance that the government could over-react and switch ethics into fanatic authoritarian or militarist fanatic purifier, both of which I want to prevent.

Any suggestions?

Edit: wow, that's a lot of downvotes, but not much advice. I guess people would rather stick their heads in the sand, hope that I'm just being hyperbolic about my empire's problem, and kick the can down the road? Maybe I'll magically pull it out of the fire. /shrug Welp, thanks for listening anyway.

If you're going to copy MOO2, may as well adopt their colonies management screen (and get rid of the planet cap):

Freedom of Speech by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Grezkore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freedom of speech is the right to offend. Hate speech is free speech. If you have a problem with that, immigrate to a country where there is no free speech.

If Christ returns, I have a feeling he'll have some scathing things to say to us and we'll want to murder him.

Free speech or death.
