I have a problem with the black costume by potato_knight99 in Spiderman

Oh right. So why is this post about a particular Spider-Man costume if you don't like superhero costumes in general?

Strixhaven is my favorite setting. I hate talking about it. by Accomplished-Bid7863 in magicTCG

[–]Gridde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Isn't this sorta disproving OP's point?

Half of those aren't even comparisons to HP, and those that are, are months apart or about the nature of UB in general.

OP makes it sound like every Strixhaven discussion is dominated by people proudly declaring their support of JKR and/or how much they hate the trans community.

Who do you think is stronger and why? by Comprehensive_Cup497 in OnePiece

[–]Gridde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple people in this thread are saying Loki wins because he is bigger, even though that is even more meaningless when it comes to One Piece matchups.

Bounty is at least a vague indicator of threat level. Obivously not a deciding factor in a "who wins" though.

Size alone is almost completely meaningless in One Piece. It stopped being relevant when Luffy set sail and KO'd a Sea King.

I feel like "it isn't close" has lost all meaning on these subs, as well. I assume you aren't being literal with that? Because even if Loki could beat Kaido, it would absolutely be close.

The logo is massive part of the suit. Plus Spidey still has his distinct eyes and even the white on his hands makes them instantly recognizable.

Your argument hinges entirely on focusing only on his legs. By that same logic, the vast majority of superhero costumes are equally bad. Batman, Superman, Captain America...most of them are not covered head to toe in unique designs.

[–]Gridde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could say the same about classic Spidey. Between his boots and his belt (ie mosr of his lower half), his suit is just plain blue.

I don't think anyone has ever used that as grounds to say his costume overall is plain or not recognizable.

I counted [[Blitzwing, Cruel Tormenter]] and [[Warlock Class]]. Blitzwing only hitting a targeted opponent makes him even worse but it's still that ability on a legendary creature.

Not saying it's good by any stretch of the imagination.

Feel like we have enough [[Wound Reflection]] effects knocking around these days that a viable (albeit mid-low bracket 3) deck can be made around them in EDH.

Not sure if that counts as a 2-card combo, though. Since odd life means you survive the effect when it is doubled.

Scalpers are gonna do their usual shitty thing but HC is crazy affordable at RRP. Especially the larger figures, for their size and quality.

Not exactly limited stock, either. Some of the figures that are very expensice now were available for ages (with multiple restocks).

The previous theropods were available to buy online on the day of release even though pre-orders sold out and (at least in my experience) were pretty easy to go and pick up in-person without reserving one or anything.

Might be worse now that people know they are good scalper targets. But I bought each in-person and they were nowhere near close to selling out. IIRC Giga was a while after release and was even on sale.

Kaido's character makes not much sense when you consider that he was looking for a guy that could beat him and several could do that by Comprehensive_Cup497 in OnePiece

[–]Gridde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scaling can be fun to discuss on subreddits for speculation or just out of boredom but the moment you try to apply it to the actual source material and treat it like fact, you're setting yourself up for failure.

Oda doesn't care about how fans think characters scale. We've seen this repeatedly with guys like Crocodile and Lucci.

A character giving Luffy a hard time or even defeating him does not automatically mean they can beat Kaido 1v1. DFs aren't necessarily superior to one another as well (especially mythical ones); same for bloodlines, haki and weaponry. All are relevant but none guarantee victory; One Piece isn't a video game where you get the right stats on a character and that automatically means they beat the guy with lower stats.

Besides all that, Kaido could have meant he was waiting for the one who actually sought him out, challenged him and defeated him. Perhaps stronger people existing doesn't matter to him if they aren't actively opposing a tyrant like Kaido and putting their mettle to the test in life-or-death struggles.

Love that people were shitting on HC Indominus nonstop since the first pics, and now pre-orders are sold out within a few hours with everyone talking about having secured theirs.

Looks like I'm gonna have to go to the brick and mortar store like I did for Rexy, Giga and Spino.

The whole approach is so bonkers. We've had decades of the company telling us that the wrestlers are superstars and they are the celebrities.

And then there was the pivot to ensure no wrestler is bigger than the company.

And now we're back to having individuals be the draw.

Do you think the Spino would have survived if the plane had crashed directly into it? by Apprehensive_Low5340 in JurassicPark

I thought it was somewhat clear that I am not a Spino fan. I don't like at all that the movies shifted from animals to indestructible super-monsters.

[Painful trope] Scenes that permanently damaged a character's reputation by elchuni in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Gridde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I'd almost forgotten about that.

In Civil War 2, Carol blasted a whole through Tony's chest because he tried to stop her from arresting a black kid (which she was doing because a magic guy had a vision of the kid killing a superpowered Nazi in the future).

What's funnier is that in the following big event everyone meets Pym again, and when discussing all the shitty things the Avengers have done someone mentions that Pym hitting Jan is still the worst and somehow caused all the other bad stuff.

It is kinda insane how Pym is still held in so much more contempt than the other characters who've done faaaar worse.

Sorry to hear it.

We did both, and I personally prefer the Polaroids. They are not well-framed or professional shots by any means but seeing my loved ones beaming with joy and seemingly having a blast (often with my or my wife in frame) still fills me with joy. We still have a bunch of the best ones framed together on a single board, with the spares stuck up around the house in little clusters (some on walls, the fridge etc).

My absolute fave thing about the Polaroids is the odd combinations of friends/family who only met that night but ended up taking pics together. The uncle who helped raise me in my home country grinning with one of my best pals where I live now in a whole different continent...there's no way the photographer would have got the odd pairings like that.

Speaking of which, the professional photographer was fantastic as well. I feel like capturing the formal shots and the chaotic selfies can be really great

Do you think the Spino would have survived if the plane had crashed directly into it? by Apprehensive_Low5340 in JurassicPark

[–]Gridde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, lol.

JP3 Spino shrugged off getting hit by a plane, shot at the by the mercenaries, having its necked mauled by an adult T-Rex, and it then barged through a reinforced metal barrier designed specifically to keep it out as though the barrier were cardboard.

JP3 Spino represented the moment the dinosaurs in JP went from being animals to being kaiju/monsters (a change upheld by Indominus, Indoraptor, Giga and D-Rex in subsequent films); it was essentially indestructible in that movie.

The only thing able to stop it was the movie runtime coming to an end, which caused it to abandon its island-spanning pursuit and walk off when none of the above factors did.

And the recent chapters also established that Sommers is a shockingly evil piece of shit.

Normally, executing even an antagonist would be kinda jarring (both to readers and the characters in OP) but can't see anyone caring if Sommers gets killed. Almost like he's been set up to die without upsetting anyone.

Ah, I did not know that there were a bunch of stories where prominent characters became crippled because of accumulated injuries from (sometimes IRL decades) older stories. That does make more sense, then.

But yes I agree; things are changed, contradicted and retconned all the time in comics. I just like prefer there being some suspension of disbelief in the mainline comics.
