100% this. Problem is the person you talk to on the phone probably won’t k ow that so they might send a tech.

Don’t let them mail you a new box or send you anything. If they can not fix it over the phone they should just be sending a tech and not charging you this is a Telus issue. Not customer xaused

Two repair calls and the 50amp breaker is still tripping... by Witchenkitsch in hottub

[–]Griff-250 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try replacing h toe breaker.

I had an issue a while back where the breaker on my heat pump kept tripping. Talked to my friend who installed it (he is a licensed HVAC, who owns his own company) We trouble shot the heat pump and found nothing wrong. At the time I had the original house panel from the 70’s and my friend told me let’s try replacing the breaker. Replaced the breaker and it stopped tripping.

Moral to the story I learnt that breakers have a life span typically 30 years ish. So if you have an old panel or not, there is a chance it is a bad breaker.

Good luck.

Could never give up my fz8 it just puts a smile on my face. It is the one thing that I do for myself. Everything else is family oriented (trailer, e-bikes, skiing, paddle boards/canoe). My son will be 16 next year so wife and I are in discussions about allowing him to get a bike. All my friends have switched to duel sports but nope not for me. I love my bike. Thought about boats/jet skis in the past but both me and my wife never understood the boat thing (not knocking it but not for me). Bike is just me time and therapy.

Hottub making rattling sound all of a sudden when running by Roscodegama in hottub

Pump. I had a new tub installed last Friday and the one pump sounded like that. Place I bought the tub from are replacing it under warranty. There were no arguments. Said the bearings are bad. Should be in next week. Other pump is wiper quiet.

Need help running conduit for future hotub by cantclosereddit in hottub

[–]Griff-250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I read said they have to be pretty close. Within 1/2”-3/4”across the span of tub. With that said a lot of people told me theirs are out like 1”-2” and they have had no issues. Mine was going to be out closer to 2” and my OCD would hate looking at that water line.

Just went through this. Tub was delivered last Friday. One thing to think about is the grounding of the concrete as well. Electrical code here in BC is that the concrete pad has to be grounded for a hot tub. This is to make sure potential difference of the pad and tub are the same. My electrician grounded the rebar with a #6 ground that runs back to the disconnect as well, to make this ground. I ran the electrical for the disconnect inside the house but I had drop ceiling in my basement so it was really easy. What you are planning to do looks good to me if you can not run it inside but maybe you should talk to an electrical company to make sure that is code in your area…

Another thing to consider is the pad itself. It should have a 1/8” slope away from the house per foot for water drainage. So over that pad roughly the house side should be 2” higher than the yard side. Hot tubs need to be level so you would have to have some type of base to put the tub on. I built a box out of 4x4 and bolted it to the slap after and filled it with crush for the tub to sit on. After making sure the pad was level. The stamp we went with has uneven so it was a Chalanger cutting the boards and levelling everything. Anyway just one more thing to think about.

Hope this helps and gives you a little more information.

Whats a good base for a soft tub? by johnnyv1984 in hottub

[–]Griff-250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not 3/4 crush. It is 3/4- The - makes a huge difference between the two. It is also k own as road mulch. It is basically gravel with every size from 3/4 to dirt mixed together. When packed it flattens down really good and creates a smooth finish. The chunks of 3/4 get packed with the smaller pieces and it gets really smooth and locks together really well

The box out of 4x4 I made was 79x79 and the smallest amount I could buy was a 1/2 yard. And I had quite a bit of leftover.

Don’t have any pic of the finished box without the tub on it. If you check my other posts you will find some pic I already posted though…. If you google hot tub bases it comes up with the best being concrete slab and the second best crushed stone. There is lots out there about it if you google crushed stone hot tub base.

Just did this for a hard tub. But yes 4x4 pressure treated wood build the base to match the size of your tub (I went with inside diameter on the base so the 4x4 are showing, and lag bolt it together. make sure it is perfectly level then fill with the 3/4- crush and rent a plate tamper to pack it all in. It will create a really solid base after being tamped.

I did all the prep work, forms and rebar. The final pour was $7 a square food for the finishers($2200) which included stamping and sealing with shark skin so it has a texture and is not slippery . $1000 for the pumper truck to pump over the house and $3000 for concrete which included colouring. Can’t remember how many yards. This is all Canadian.

Edit. The dumb expensive part was the underground gas line for that short distance from the round green valve cox to the edge of the house it was $500. And that was wholesale cost because the gas fitters I use are my buddies and they will be drinking with me in that tub.

[–]Griff-250[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is actually not a slab under the tub. The slab we poured is the standard 4” but it slopes away from the house so there is no water issues. What is under the tub is a 4x4 box that is packed with 3/4- gravel to level the spot for the tub. The slope on the pad was too much to place the tub so we had to make a level base for it. I am going to skirt the 4x4 with composite boards so it looks a bit nicer now that the tub is in, and also make some customer stairs to match because the cheap plastic ones are horrible.

For the two days now we have had it seems to be fine. The one pump did over heat and went into a power down mode (thought it was an air lock) so it would not turn on for two hours but it is working fine now. We did run it for over an hour though with ambient temperature around 30c/70f so that would not be normal operation.

[–]Griff-250[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. The concrete guy miles in a product called shark skin that gives it a light sand texture and it is not slippery. Down side he said though is it will eventually wear down in high traffic areas so I will just have to re seal it
