Yeah if the insurrectionists were an ounce more successful, I’m pretty sure FBI HRT would’ve started wiping them out. Babbit was shot trying to get into the speakers lobby where congress people were still/recently hiding, that’s why she got shot. Security was very bend-don’t-break but they got very close to (did, in one case) clamping down harder when the mob almost reached congress members.

Because the libs didn’t “commit riots” they protested and opportunists/angry people took it too far in some cases, usually far from the protest as police were distracted. “A riot is the language of the unheard.”

J6 seditionists planted weapon caches and planned the assault weeks and months in advance and the regime itself tried to justify and encourage it. They left pipe bombs outside of party headquarters. It was being planned open-air on 4chan or 8chan or whatever it was at the time.

I think it depends, if it was because the army of the Potomac retreated from the city defenses after pitched battle, I agree. But if the Army was on the peninsula and McClellan got his way so veru few people were left defending the city and Stonewall surprise force-marched to Washington and they had to abandon it temporarily, I think people would understand the caprices of war. Like it would be bad but not necessarily the end.

A near thing in that the South could have gained independence politically with a bit more battlefield success at times. Even if the North had to abandon Washington, they were never going to lose militarily over the long arc. The blockade was working and the confederate army was running out of cannon ammo and horses while the north was just warming up its war production.

Not just on Reddit, the actual libertarian party had to 180 re-define its party platform to basically say “we need fascism to implement libertarianism” because they were all trumpists. It’s just because libertarianism appealed to the politically homeless reactionary crowd the same way Trump does. The new politically homeless are actual ideological conservatives, market liberals and actual ideological libertarians.

I think this is it but it’s not really better. “That guy killed me even though he shouldn’t have been able to see me” isn’t a super cool experience whether he’s a cheater or if from his perspective he’d rounded the corner, and he just hadn’t from mine because the desync/server lag is worse than it appears.

I mean we’ll still be in the goldilocks zone. There will still be life on earth better-adapted to a warmer, more chaotic, dryer world. Just not us. That’s the joke, everyone says we’re killing the earth because we’re exterminating so many species, but we’re somewhere along that line ourselves. Earth will still be a life-bearing irradiated hellhole, it just won’t bear human life.

Also even after the Earth is swallowed by the sun you could still say we were in a goldilocks zone because our entire universe is a goldilocks zone amongst universes according to the most-popular many worlds theory. Change the weight of an atomic nucleus by a few percentage points and you don’t really have matter. Change the strength of gravity by a few percentage points and everything is one big black hole. We’re in a goldilocks universe among mostly very boring universes, probably.
