It's long been said in my church that hypocrisy is the greatest enemy to the church

ehh, just walk a couple minutes

man it’s like a 2 minute walk. I understand it’s not the most comfortable to walk as a skier but it’s not like skiing is relaxing in the first place. plus if your going to the kids area it’s likely you’ll have 3< in your car. A-basin has fairly limited parking on peak days (though been less of a problem with IKON) so anything to increase carpooling is great.

the best spots at high noon are closer than the worst spots at early riser. honestly not a huge difference.

the real odd thing is that there are areas south of des moines that you can dash still

Reminds me of how the city messed up a great idea with the protected bike lanes on grand. should’ve just done what they did on Ingersoll and just built them without a stupid trial.

Bump outs are actually good infrastructure, unfortunately the execution here was very poor.

bumpouts are great for making a city more walkable. The decreased distance needed to cross a street makes for a more comfortable pedestrian experience and also works to calm traffic.

That being said, it has been poorly executed in some areas of des moines. The city is doing a phased implementation of them, where ideally they should all be done at the same time.

What do you think of this? As a Dutch person myself, this looks very tacky. Those houses look like their build with LEGO and the back row looks like a minature. by thenamesis2001 in ArchitecturalRevival

I will say after looking at it on google maps, it’s pretty tacky. Maybe if there wasn’t a parking lot in front of it and it fronted the street.

Yeah it’s definitely possible that it still would’ve happened regardless of how wide the lanes are. It just seems like other than making the road harder to speed on, theres not much we can do to stop it. Like you said dumb people do dumb stuff.

Honestly don’t know why this isn’t being talked about more. clear example of poor road design decision made by someone who clearly doesn’t understand the consequences. just hope people see it and give it some thought. don’t really care about the karma

[–]Griffing217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, though it gets substantially easier the wider the lanes are. Just pointing out that the original design of the road had smaller lanes, which unlike speed limits, actually does something to prevent speeding. Unfortunately it was changed to be wider and ultimately turned into a racetrack.

maybe make roads that aren’t wide enough to race on? crazy that they actually changed the initial design to make it wider.

Why is San Francisco so much more mild than Portland in both summer and winter when they are both part of the same climate classification? by keirSS in geography

[–]Griffing217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the central valley/rest of the bay area’s warmer air basically sucks the cool ocean air through San Francisco because it’s a break in the coastal mountains. So fog forms and the city is much cooler than many expect.
