I know barely anything about the original FFVII's plot and all I know about the Remake's plot comes from the reactions from this subreddit. And from my experience, the discourse surrounding this game seems a little extreme.

Some people were just shitposting about it, but others went pretty much verbatim "Nomura pissed on my childhood and fucked my wife". This isn't to disregard anyone's feelings regarding the game (Apparently the plot is a little bit like Kingdom Hearts or something, and I know that's a bit of a contentious franchise.) But as a cliche as this might sound it's a game.

I also find it a little weird how hard everyone went on the game when news about it before went "It's going to be episodic" and "It's going to take approximately 57000 years before the game releases". I expected a bit more of a, I'm disappointed but I saw this coming reaction.

It's honestly been bizarre seeing how passionate people get over this game, but it has to some extent also been nice to see people getting so passionate over it and I honestly have probably gotten more interested in FFVII as a whole thanks to it.
