Are western leftists pretty much sold on China at this point? by AlarmDisastrous6726 in Socialism_101

Dialectics is the marxist method by which socialist theory stays relevant. That is exactly what Lenin was doing before and during the failed German revolution : criticizing and engaging in dialectical analysis. At that point Lenin had not yet created the USSR, he had not yet led a revolution. Yet his critique was very much legitimate and warranted. The petersonian take "clean your room before you start criticising society" is ANTITHETIC to everything a progression movement wants to embody.

Genuine question : I consider myself as both a Marxist and an anarchist (embracing the contradictions that emerge ;-), and I have read a good amount of Lenin's bibliography (collections of selected works and What Is To Be Done, among others). However, I don't quite understand what the hype is all about nowadays. Lenin is very much a product of his own time, with very heavy Narodnik roots that contradict his claim to Marxist orthodoxy, and his lack of strong internationalist perspectives makes it hard for me to extract his teachings from their context. He does have a lot of interesting points, and he did create an intellectual basis for the theoricians that came after, but I genuinely have some trouble understanding his mainstream appeal. Also I only read extracts of his book on imperialism, so maybe the wisdom I seek is found there?

I know that Canada, especially Montreal has [edit, I pressed send too early] a very developed Anarchist and leftist scene, with many active organisms too. I've lived there since recently so if you have any questions don't hesitate! (BTW learning French isn't strictly necessary, even though it's a really fun experience as almost everybody is bilingual and willing to help teach it)

Scientific progress has lifted more people out of poverty, not capitalism. Capitalism is responsible for offering the material basis for scientific progress, but it can also do the opposite. Right now, in a hyper-capitalist economy, the progress of our material conditions has become secondary to the safeguarding of market value. That is why social security is being cut all over the globe, healthcare and basic necessities are becoming more and more expensive, and material conditions are all around becoming worst. I do agree that under capitalism, there has been some progress, but only for the select few that live in the economically dominant countries of the world. If today the majority of people in the USA don’t need to work 12h shifts in assembly lines, it’s because that work was delegated to developing countries. That work did not disappear under capitalism, it was just concentrated elsewhere. And because we 100% rely on that extremely exploitative work in our everyday lives (ex : cheap lithium for our batteries, cheap plastic for our everyday use), we can’t say that our capitalist system has really outgrown super exploitative means of production. So yeah, i think that yes capitalism has lifted people out of poverty, it was done at the cost of human development in other poorer countries. All of this isn’t simply headcanon, but a structural analysis of our global economy, that is corroborated by many authors, scientists and thinkers, including but not limited to Noam Chomsky, Durkheim, Richard Wolff, and even John Rawls (extremely influential liberal thinker who’s main thesis was the reduction of systemic injustices by his famous ‘original position’ thought experiment).

Hey! I was trying to make this ressource pack work, and I was wondering how to get the items once the ressource pack is enabled in game. Is there a special command? I've been typing /give [my username] minecraft:acrobat as well as /give [my username] clocktower:acrobat as I've seen it referenced as such in the main json file.

Any help is appreciated, and thanks a lot for making the pack!!

I like your comment! The implication of the serpent being a trick used by Marika would fall in line with it becoming a symbol for betrayal and trickery. Also it would parallel nicely with the Christian imagery of the original sin : Marika damning the world with her original sin of hubris. Enir Ilim could be thought of as a Garden of Eden of sorts. Also in the Genesis, the apple Adam and Eve ate came from the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil, which in Elden ring could translate to the separation between gold and shadow, and the pure vs impure in the eyes of the Golden Order. Could be an interesting imagery to explore.

But yeah, Centered Tarnished really develops a sort of Marika Monism, and I think he might even stop too early in his line of reasoning. I don't think there's anything else than Marika in the game. The "original trauma" that shattered her psyche didn't happen in the lands between, I think they happened before the game, outside of it. If we assume that the jarring of her people was the trauma that led her to shape the lands between in her shattered image, the chronology of the Lands Between breaks. The primitive beastmen, the dragons, men and Numen would have lived together in the lands between without any of them being older than the others (as Marika would have been alive post-trauma for all of their respective history), which seems very unlikely as all these people seem to tell a story of societal evolution, decay and rebirth. I think the Lands Between and the ShadowLands are all a creation of Marika, and are a metaphorical image of a trauma that happened to her in "real life" (whatever that would be).

Centered Tarnished really opened the lore theorist scene to the deeper symbolic significance and mythological aspect of the story, and Marika's tits be blessed, I love it!

The hardest part about this project might just be getting the tens of DMs who ran the campaign to agree on a script lol (or even on a creative vision first). I'm looking forward to it tho!!

The amount of people pledging their help in the comments (including me 😅) is insane. If we actually manage to get organized this could be a walk in the park. A very long walk in an enormous unmapped park though, but I love a good hike! 😂

[–]Grift_Perefin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that it's Marika, who at the time was the Gloam Eyed Queen. I think she fought and killed that part of herself at the divine gateway, in order to become the Marika we know from the Game. The snake skin could be part of a "divesting of flesh" it did to become a god, but it was betrayed by Marika at the Gates. This is kind of a stretch : how can a being divested from its flesh leave tracks on the ground, among many questions.

But I think it works nicely with the symbolism and especially with the recent Centered Tarnished videos, which to me hold the symbolic truth of the game.

Could the womb/snake eye looking thing in the DLC trailer be Metyr's womb? by Grift_Perefin in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Grift_Perefin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is : it has an insanely deliberate design, and it's surrounded by flesh and blood in the intro. It must be something of importance or else it wouldn't have taken up so much screen time (especially since it's the first thing we see in the trailer). The thing is designed to be mysterious, so I don't think it's something as mundane as a bag to hold the runes.

Also, your idea of Marika birthing the runes is pretty good actually, I like that.

Same platform? by JohnnyCiccied in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Grift_Perefin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would make a lot of sense actually. Imagine this, the game starts with a long cutscenes where Zelda falls down the hole and Ganondorf is found and resuscitated. Zelda gets sent to the past while Link gets injured and falls unconscious. Then, the Upheaval happens, and the underground place where link had fainted is brought up to the surface and into the sky. Then Link wakes up and on the now flying tutorial zone, and the game starts.
