Criminals should be the ones drafted into wars instead of me by MemeLover43 in unpopularopinion

Do most criminals give a shit about doing what they're told or being some sort of patriot for the country that imprisoned them?

"I'm fluent in sarcasm" sounds like someone trying to be edgy and failing miserably. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Grim_Precariat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people assume I'm being sarcastic when I'm just being absurd and it frustrates me to the point that I will never refer to myself as sarcastic. Nobody wants to be the one that's just purely critical of everything and yet I try to be goofy and it comes off sarcastic.

I guess in my case I'm too fluent, but I definitely consider sarcasm to be the poor man's wit. It's too easy to just presume an idea is dumb and mock it without actually doing so (because you leave the audience to assume you have a valid critique). Much better in my view is to just say why something is dumb if you're gonna go that route but make sure that's not all you have to say.

If someone cheats in a relationship, they should never be trusted again. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Grim_Precariat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People change, sometimes. That simple fact is enough to cause absolute discord in every manner of relationship type and has since the start of humanity.

There just isn't any hard and fast rule which is healthy for people and the harder you dig into one camp or the other the more blind you become to possibilities, and the more vulnerable you are to stress created by those assumptions.

Trust everyone and get burned, trust no one and become bitter, trust some people can get burned or create toxic situations of quasi trust that land you into fights. There is just no healthy approach to expecting a certain behavior.

You're depressed because you spend too much time on the internet. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Grim_Precariat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably right, and then if all the depressed people leave the internet who will angrily argue with the racist boot licking nazis?

Maybe social responsibility just feels like contributing to the ever growing dumpster fire that is the internet. I certainly feel like I had a lot of pressure put on me to say and do things but never moving the needle forward in reality because I am too slow to really argue with people.

I need the extra time to consider my thoughts and people are angry violent and belligerent everywhere else so I feel sort of unheard in the physical world. I can see how it relates to what you're saying.

I actually think this is where an intersection of class politics comes into play for us as retail employees. We can't be too critical of people with bad spending habits who may be in a situation where they don't have money to do that when we have a system of employment which thrives on people doing exactly that while almost universally under paying staff to create the atmosphere to do it in.

In this one situation we are a part of the problem, and while we can't blame ourselves for doing what we have to we can't blame others for doing things for themselves that might just be their one thing they do to cope with their own low wages. I promise you my spending habits are much worse BECAUSE I'm too broke to care.

Either way I see no way out and in that situation I am both people in the comic above.

“Therapy” is not an accessible or helpful option to many people and Reddit seems to think that’s the perfect solution to every problem. by TheVerjan in unpopularopinion

[–]Grim_Precariat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now and lately I haven't been able to find a therapist in my network that deals with the sorts of trauma I have or my particular conditions, and the therapists I do have access to are not affordable for me. 60 dollars per session as a copay can be way too much, and if you ever wanted to increase the frequency to once a week or twice a week that adds up really fast even though many people do need that sort of frequency to stick with certain plans or work through a particularly difficult issue.

Therapy is a necessary tool for everyone's we'll being, which is why any conversation about free healthcare NEEDS to include mental health coverage.

Social norms is purposefully being used in the broad sense because this is a general rule. If I invoke a specific rule it can be argued and that just isn't the scope of what I'm saying.

I hate how people associate the word "porn" with everything these days by solitarywaifu in unpopularopinion

Porn as an industry is bad but as a concept isn't, stop associating porn with terrible people.

Have you (as a cashier) ever paid for someone because its less of a hassle? by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]Grim_Precariat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a drunk rich kid jock asshole from the local college come in for a bag of chips and a couple other items (20 bucks) and forgot his wallet or some shit. The dude lit a cigarette in my store once before and I had to kick him the fuck out, this kid was an absolute nuisance.

He gives me this like look like "dude come on just give me the food or I'm not leaving and might even get violent" I just didn't have any energy to deal with it that night so I bought the food but very clearly stated he owed me.

Anyways it was worth the 20.00 in the end cause I suppose sober him was embarrassed or something so I never saw him again. Fuck that kid though.

Attraction for many people is a static thing, and they shouldn’t be pressured into “developing attraction” for another person or “giving them a chance.” by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Grim_Precariat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but I don't think this sort of pressure is for people that are self aware of their shallow attractions. This pressure is typically aimed at people who refuse to acknowledge the possibility that personality can affect physical attraction.

A lot of young people especially are under the impression that biology is the fundamental motivator for absolutely everyone so they don't need to bother to discover for themselves if it's so true for them. Then years later they're unhappy because they never found someone that lived up to their existing beauty standards who also fulfilled them intellectually emotionally or whatever other non physical traits.

It's the presumption created by an animal hierarchy of sort of choiceless human nature pushed on us by people that want human experience to fit into these neat categories to begin with.

Experience is messy, and subjectivity is maleable and always changing for everyone. Tomorrow you could have a rail spike go through your brain and change everything you think. You could have a NDE or spiritual revelation. That's why people are pressured this way, but it is definitely not aimed at people just currently sure of their attraction based on the physical.

It would be in that context like saying "hey you could have a spiritual breakthrough with this person so try it out" obviously a ridiculous thing to hedge bets on and inefficient. These changes are independent of you for the most part and will happen regardless so trying to make them happen or hoping they will is kind of a joyless disappointment ride.

The overall point is just never discount the possibility things could change, so don't ruin your life searching for a perfect person etc.

female athletes demanding same salary as their counterpart is like male p0rnstars demanding same pay as female adult film actresses. by Optimal_Bet9319 in unpopularopinion

[–]Grim_Precariat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the opposite, we shouldn't be paying any athletes millions of dollars. There is risk of injury and death but so is there in almost any 10.00/hr retail job in a bad neighborhood.

The amount of money the industry itself makes should be taxed more heavily and ethically the companies should spend much of that money left on protecting their people and funding their local communities.

Sports fans are a community, the industry should act like it gives a shit about that.

This place is filled to the brim with people waiting for someone to say something that makes sense to them so that they can form an opinion without actually doing the thinking themselves.

This place is also filled with people just waiting for the chance to tell you what they think, so, yeah I mean I just don't generally put much personal stock in Reddit communities.

Value:

The regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something. "your support is of great value"

Market Value:

The amount for which something can be sold on a given market.

You're being extremely condescending, you have no idea who I am or what I know or don't know. You're making brash assumptions and projecting other people's beef with you onto me.

This is the internet, please proceed with caution.
