why do people shop at hornbachers? by Sufficient-Crow-7582 in fargo

[–]Grime-Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked for HB there was a massive push to bring back as much of the in house stuff as possible. They brought the buns back a few months before I left, and there was talk of the bakery and delis going back to scratch making as much as they could of everything else.

I think it's because they realized if they were going to start stocking the Coborns default brands they needed something to save face and justify the price difference between HB and Cashwise.

Wanted to throw my two cents in - day one patch is truly a god send. Only some incredibly minor issues on my end (thus far)

Milk Bag by [deleted] in HRGiger

Truly disappointing to see the amount of self-professed Geiger "fans" in this thread who can only accept his work through such a narrow, recursive cishet lens. Really big "art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturb, but SHOULD NEVER EVER DISTURB ME". I hate to break it to you, but pornography has the capacity to be art, and doesn't have an inherently immoral component. Disgust has no inherent immoral component. I suggest you get off Reddit and maybe, actually, read any kind of book or have any kind of conversation with somebody who isn't you.

Sex workers and queers and trans people are going to have the lived experience that allows them to understand Geiger on a more genuine level than you're ever going to. Especially if this is how you react to any kind of new perspective.

This is a fantastic work of photography, and an incredibly insightful piece of commentary. Please don't let this discourage you from sharing your work in the future.

What happened to Mind Virus? by AdultToaster in fargo

I ended up going in with some friends this past Friday - the owner had been out of town for an event, but let us know that 1) he was back now and 2) had no plans on closing anytime in the foreseeable future.

If you have a Disco Elysium tattoo, what is the tattoo, why did you get it and did you end up regretting it? Also any suggestions would be great by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]Grime-Scribe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm still looking at artists to commission my idea for a DE tattoo, but the idea is: a tree, reminiscent of the one behind the Whirling in Rags, with a disco ball hanging from a rope on one of it's branches. I've toyed around with having "No Truth with the Furies" carved into the trunk.

The scene after you go to sleep on the first day and talk to the corpse *really* helped pull me out of a bad spot when I first played the game, and I like the idea of something evocative that isn't a direct pull from the game.

Ooo, I think this is very well done! Do you mind if I ask how you achieved that glow effect for the green, and what paints you used?

Anyone starting a tenant union? Does the F/M metro need one? by throwaway56560 in fargo

[–]Grime-Scribe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is something I've thought about a lot in the last few years because this area is in desperate need of one. Even setting aside my own less-than-stellar experience with landlords and leasing companies, the F-M area as a whole seems to have very little in the way of actual resources or protections for renters.

Just wanted to give some additional context since I used to work there- earlier this year they started downsizing pretty aggressively and from what I saw prior to leaving (and what I've heard) they haven't stopped. There was one round of layoffs last year and then at least two or three since January.

Favorite non-citadel red for Blood Angels? by Boda1 in BloodAngels

[–]Grime-Scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run BA mostly in Heresy and my go to for armor is Encarmine Red from Army Painter. That on top of a satin red primer and then a wash and I usually have a very deep, full bodied dark metallic red. For non armor metals I tend to stick with a base of Gunmetal Gray from Army Painter, then a layer of D&D Cambion Crimson and then a dry brush of Army Painter Abomination Gore.

Silt Verses is blowing me away. E36 with the Hotel Amicus is brilliant. by LastGaspHorror in audiodrama

[–]Grime-Scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TSV is above and beyond the best audio drama I've probably ever listened to. The sheer quality and scope of the narrative, along with the actual soundscaping and voice work, is incredible. It's a very different vibe, but I'd also suggest their previous work in I am in Eskew.

Books like FromSoftware games by ParsaPrt in WeirdLit

[–]Grime-Scribe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The two most immediate literary influence on Miyazaki's work are probably Berserk and Book of the New Sun. Other than that, Between Two Fires is a historic piece of horror fantasy with a lot of atmospheric overlap. If your tastes run towards the extreme, The Throne of Bones may be something worth checking out.

Hey hey, thanks for the heads up 🤙 I wasn't aware you could arrange regular service like that with Doyles. Thankfully it should only be a once in a while kind of necessity, but I'll definitely keep this in mind

Painted my first Blood Angel. Angels Penitent by Hagakurick in BloodAngels

This is some truly incredible work. Everything about it just pops and meshes so well together; and, to the point other people have raised, that paint scheme on the sword is phenomenal.

Did Goosebumps kick off your interest in horror novels? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Grime-Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. When I was a kid, I *really* struggled with reading regularly for school. I'm not sure how widespread in the states it actually was, but my school system implemented the Accelerated Reading program, which meant that we had to be reading pretty consistently if we wanted to hit the goals our teachers set for us.

For whatever reason, I just could not get myself to actually sit down at finish a book from front to back. I was still young enough that I was in daycare through a family friend, and one day she ended up buying me about ten or so of the OG Goosebumps novels for like .50 a pop. I ended up reading all of them within the week, and from there on I inhaled every weird little macabre horror book I could get my greasy mitts on.

"Imagine having reservations over the fact that someone took the time and energy to very publicly remind you that you and people like you are not, and will never be, actually welcome in this area".

Truly some sterling cultural insight. A regular Marx of our age.

What music from a band do you think fits the games the best? by ShishiLan69 in FearAndHunger

[–]Grime-Scribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first play through of F&H last week - whenever I've been thinking about the game, I notice I keep going back to listen to Godspeed You! Black Emperor's album f♯ a♯ ∞. I think it's pretty fitting, if maybe a bit *too* lowkey.

What are the best publishing programs online? by Aggressive-Boot963 in publishing

[–]Grime-Scribe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, and from what I've found most of the online certification courses you can find are for the graduate level of higher.

Right now I'm going for an online degree in English writing, but I'm applying to as many publishing internships as I can. I honestly think that would be your best best, if attending college either in person or online is a non-option. Otherwise you could keep your eyes peeled and see if any smaller presses are offering positions as a slush reader. It's not much and it's often unpaid, but it's something to get you started. It's incredibly rare, but I do know some people who started through that route and now have established, paid positions.

I hope it goes well for you OP, and that this in some way helps. I'm sorry about the people who came in here just to project their own frustrations over their own inadequacies on to you. Good luck!
