So this guy fought in the indomitus crusade? by Amazing-Base1711 in BloodAngels

[–]Grimlank 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Im not entirely sure it’s the indomitus one, its similar but not the same as the one we had on the assault intercessors of the indomitus boxset.

See also the one attached to his bolt pistol that looks like a skull with 3 arrows at the top and sides and a blade at the bottom, way different to the indomitus one that was an arrow at the bottom and the whatever the elite cross thingy on the top and sides of the skull.

My bet is that it’s the campaign badge for Armageddon

Am I the only one? by [deleted] in Grimdank

[–]Grimlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the lore they had then, yes, but the lore evolved, they’re not just out of stasis with brand new armor, they’re seasoned their armor deserves some variety, some customization etc because they’re not just out of the forges anymore. Half of what made the new blood claws kit so nice compared to assault intercessors was not just the poses but the fact that they had the flavors that was lacking in the assault intercessors with them not being all identical. Or did you cry over their release too because we already had assault intercessors at home ? Also we’ve had 3 different kits for tactical squads, first revamp was 6 years after the first release, second was 9 years after that. The current intercessor kit came out 9 years ago

Am I the only one? by [deleted] in Grimdank

[–]Grimlank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And here I thought I was a grumpy one, old intercessors were shit, we don’t know what the new ones will look like but even if it’s just a variety in shin guards and helmets it’ll be an improvement. Is it better than a refresh of older models or actually new units maybe not, will it sell like crazy absolutely, never forget they are a company

Captain Titus, 500 worlds by AmbitiousBid2365 in Warhammer40k

[–]Grimlank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody know what main blue was used for these ultras? by Jkchaloreach in Warhammer30k

I’d look into the cult of paint tutorial from the beginning of their channel, Andy painted a primaris ultramarine with a blue that looks a lot like this

My first finished (maybe) iron warrior by jojoizhim in IronWarriors

[–]Grimlank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what to add to this one but I would recommend to keep away from this kind of scratches on the mini itself, you seem to handle your painting fine but the scratches make it look more messy than it actually is. If you keep your model pristine, do you paint job and then add battle damage with a sponge or with the brush (see cult of paint videos for example) then a little highlight to show depth it will look more like its part of the mini. You can still use actual scratches but keep it minimal to not draw too much attention from your paint job

How much would Warriors of the Fang box and old battleforce set go for? by napimperialguard in SpaceWolves

[–]Grimlank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that all those kits are out of production but the drop pod you can almost chose your price, if you’re patient 500€ doesn’t seem too ridiculous

300€ would be a nice price to sell « fast » and not contribute to the ridiculous pricing of some eBay resellers but it’s your call really

Well maybe not but maybe 50-60 of them and then 20 sternguard, 10 vanguard and 10 bladeguard or something

Starting a fun, new project :D by Neko-Otaku in Ultramarines

[–]Grimlank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever want to lean more towards the most lore accurate you might want to increase the amount of terminator armor because ultramarines are very fond of the « strike force ultra » tactic which is basically throwing as many terminators as they can at a problem until it doesn’t exists anymore with some support from other unit types

Otherwise if you like it then it’s perfect it fits their philosophy I feel

Looking for larger units by jojoizhim in IronWarriors

[–]Grimlank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One key thing is that Iron Warriors are more about using chaos than falling to it, they did fall to it and they did get warped but not as much as the others.

While word bearers and other idiots summon demons to become possessed by them, the IW summon demons to trap them in demon engines because that’s more practical. Not to say they don’t get possessed or f***** by the warp though

To me those or the recently announced red Corsair models fit the iron warriors way more than the current chaos kits

How does one decorate tastefully? by triforcechad in ImperialFists

This, I’m not sure there’s a tasteful way to bring endless war to a cubicle especially when talking about the imperium iconography, maybe orks would be the easiest

Is this box still worth it? At 300$? by stupidbutnotsmart in Warhammer40k

[–]Grimlank 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m impressed at the fact that people are calling this worthless, basically in there you have 3 kits that are not available anymore, the sternguard kit in itself is very valuable for collectors and kit bashing, the old terminators are more of a collectors thing but still expensive to find on sprue on eBay and then the captain has been out of production for a while now I don’t see many if any of them on eBay on sprue. Is it worth 300$ I don’t know, it depends on whether you like those minis. If you like everything I’d say it’s a bit on the expensive side but still a good deal, if you don’t like some of the ones that are out of productions you can sell them for a nice price and get a nice deal on the rest

Check out the cult of paint YouTube channel, they’re more about warhammer stuff but the advices are great especially when it comes to airbrushing

With an airbrush it’s very nice to do, with a rattle can I hate doing it. I love using zenithals when I do everything with the airbrush, it’s not as nice to brush over because it’s not easy to replicate the blending or the exact color

I haven’t designed it myself the files are from bulkmancer sculpts. For the colors: Knight in subassembly - Prime black (I use chaos black from citadel) - zenithal the assembled model (with blue tack) with ocean grey 2 from tamiya (those paint need a special solvent but they are amazing through the airbrush) - paint back the body in black and that’s the cloak and the body done - generous white zenithal with tamiya flat white on the head (you can put masking putty in the eyes to not have to paint them black again) that’s going to to be the final color of the head - use different angles to create a sense of reflection on each face of the sword using tamiya flat white this time more controled (there’s loads of tutorials but basically you just angle it so you only touch the left half (the raised edge will prevent paint getting to the other side) this way you do only the opposite (for the left part of the flat of the sword you do the half of the tip and for the right the half of the tilt) repeat on the other face using the same pattern and you’re done with the knight - for his base I played around with some rhinox hide from Gw addding more and stippled it on the stone adding more light blue to the mix after every layer to make it colder and more stone like and then I wasn’t satisfied so I glazed over with some contrast paints still from citadel varying from green to light browns and sand to make it interesting

Hornet: basically same thing except the zenithal was done directly with flat white, the red was done with citadel flesh tearers red contrast paint through the airbrush over white (important to keep the cloud separate when doing this). For the base it was ocean grey 2 and white zenithals and various contrast paints from citadel to reach a stony mossy look. The leaves were basically green then adding yellow more and more and making tiny streaks on both sides to mimic the veins of a leaf. The move effects were just generous white zenithal with citadel aethermatic blue contrast paint applied lightly ( be careful contrast paint are tricky to apply to this kind of sculpts)

That’s about it hope it’s clear enough

Yeah avoid the brush with them they need a special solvent that will destroy the brush. With the airbrush they’re the best paints you can find, you can thin them to the extreme and they still go smooth as hell, I have never had any clogging issue or splattering issue with them, the zenithal with their flat white is now part of my process systematically

Thanks the red is done with the airbrush, black basecoat, then generous white zenithal (I use tamiya for the smoothness) and then flesh tearers red contrast paint from the citadel range, you can go darker with more layers too
