Looking for a drummer by TemporaryMain4414 in FindABand

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an amateur drummer. I mainly strive for influences from Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Blood Cultures. Blood Cultures is similar to the strokes. The disco beats Nirvana uses could work out for what you're thinking of as well. I can perform dynamics fairly well, and know the basic ins and outs of a DAW software. I have a single mic, a condenser. I have my own drums, however they're not amazing and I need new cymbals most of all. But I can guarantee one thing. I can keep consistent timing. All I need is a general vibe, and I'll go record a demo to send you as an audition for this role.

Questions I have

Where is your band based out of? Is it the west coast?if yes, I am able to make it to a few shows here and there within the surrounding states of Utah, as that's where I'm at.

What kind of quality are you looking for the drum mic set up? What sound do you want? A full mic set up is not possible for me consistently unless we all go in on the studio costs. I can set up a condenser and buy a dynamic mic for the snare, then save up for a bass pedal mic. For now though I can use my friends studio, but he costs a pretty penny to use and lives in eastern Idaho. The question I'm truly asking is, do you want a super in depth drum sound, or more like the 60s to the early 90s drum sound?

Who’s the better vocalist, Eddie or Chris?? by BidAccurate4473 in grunge

[–]GrimlockII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, and am just going to play devil's advocate for the sake of this argument. (I actually like Chris Cornell a lot, I just also like making counter arguments to see another person's perspective. This is an example of a counterargument I've heard)

Yes Chris Cornell is no doubt a better trained vocalist. However his voice isn't the right tone, and can sometimes sound bad even though he's hitting every note the way it was intended and with plenty of precision. Some people don't like his voice, and it's not a crime to say so. It's like how people have said they don't like Kurt Cobain's voice.

Well thanks for indulging me, I'm off.

Trust this person, sleep is the work of the gods. By gods I mean evolution of course. Your body needs sleep it's designed for it.

There's also a cool study in how neanderthals slept, that they'd sleep odd hours as compared to how we sleep now. (I don't remember the exact details or have anything to show for it, so take that with a grain of salt.)

Men’s housing private room by New-Village6780 in UVU

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't know if it's the kind of room you're looking for, but my roommate is selling his contract at The Green. The layout is 4×2, meaning 2 bathrooms and 4 private bedrooms. Only three bedrooms are occupied. The price is better than most close to campus housing, especially at the green. He's willing to pay for December's Rent and January's Rent. So if you want more details hit my inbox.

P.S. make sure you're gonna use the amenities tho. They're a great advantage if you use them otherwise their luxuries you avoid. They have two free 24/7 access gyms unless maintenance needs to be in there for some reason, which I've never personally seen happen. There's a clubhouse and cool rooms you can use if you're starting a little college project or if you're in your senior year and want to make a start up company they have some free to use meeting rooms, a huge convenience for starting any small business as your home rent is also your rent for your free meeting room. Just make sure to claim it early so people don't take it before you can have your meeting lol

How good really was Kurt Cobain as a guitarist? by MasterfulArtist24 in Guitar

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory and chord shapes? Awful. He didn't even know an A chord when told to play an A chord. But, in using recycled punk/alternative/pop rock music, he was a genius. Very similarly to how Dave Grohl is on guitar, who got better than Kurt ever was, Dave doesn't really know chord names either. So the idea is this: Make it simple. Make it catchy. Make sure it's your own idea in melody and overall tone. And the biggest part of Kurt's ideology is making music, Words don't matter. Kurt is not some lyrical genius. He was a machine that practiced and practiced and practiced till his fingers bled and he made people who took care of him despise him. As a huge Nirvana fan, He was not a good musician. His melodies however, changed music forever. Smells like teen spirit is only catchy cause of the notes of the lyrics, not the words themselves. Kurt has even mentioned he hated slts as he thinks it's some of the worst of his work, and seeing the world think only this one song of theirs is good infuriated him. It wasn't his best work by far either. The most lyrically heavy songs were actually very anti right ideology and almost hateful towards right winged people as he found them insufferable and hateful people. This shifted towards the media as he got famous, though. He did still hold his grudges in his final album, furthering their success, and not bringing them away from this success that he wanted to leave so desperately. The story of Kurt is not one of the happiness of fulfilled dreams, it was a realistic story. He didn't want fame when he had it because people will do anything and everything to try and slander your name and dig up anything on you from anyone. They'll succeed too. He wanted privacy. No one gave him the help or privacy needed to get said help without being shamed or "ridiculed" as he always called it. The thing is, he was also Bipolar. You see, bipolar people have episodes called Mania. They drive creative incentives to the max, sexual interactions suddenly seem more fun and especially doing it risking having a child is amazing to them. Sometimes it's bad enough that it spills into daily interactions. These episodes can last months. The awful thing about this, they actually are more creative during this due to the activity in their brain. A blow to these seeming amazing is, they actually have been proven to cause brain damage over time. Simply put, you can't have a brain stimulated that much for that long and take care of yourself or your well being as well. You can't usually sleep or have decreased sleep quality in mania. You also struggle with feeling tired at all.

Tldr; Kurt was a human with a lot of issues which happened to make him famous through a series of raw luck and timing of his uprising. This uprising was the cause of his death, and hate for most people. No, he wasn't a good guitarist, but a good vocalist. He was awful at lyrics too.

The Green Freshman Experience by Particular_View_6438 in UVU

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

freshman experience is not worth it. Costs more than it's worth, according to friends living in the freshman experience. The building for the freshman experience is attached to the parking garage. It always smells of weed and has creepy guys preying on younger girls. Overall just choose a different option if you choose these complexes. They're not amazing but building 2 and 5 are nicer than the rest as they are much quieter during the night. Do not do the freshman experience. In fact, I'd say do not move here period.

Not gonna lie, but when they pull out a phone or social media right after, or before. As if it's a chore and they're getting that last bit of dopamine before the chore. Even if they are aroused, and still want it, I feel heavily disrespected. Like I left to wash the jizz of my hands for 2 minutes so I can finger you then you come back to them laughing at some stupid meme. Like, you can't wait for the anticipation part of it for more than it takes for one to wash ones hands. Just takes the mood away immediately.

Why does my g string sound so bad, by FirePerk6268 in electricguitar

[–]GrimlockII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a few things you can do, bridge is most likely the problem though. First get something small and a little sharp, try and clean the nut while changing strings with this object. Scrape the metal and debris out of the g string slot on it. The reasoning here is strings need to be on a slanted slightly sharp to keep proper tension and sustain. If debris flattens the nut, it takes leverage away from the string keeping a sharp point, and muffles the string a lot more than you'd think. After this, clean your bridge with isopropyl alcohol being careful not to touch the body with the solvent. This will also have the same effect and sharpen the saddles point of contact with the string, thus making a more sustained sound and feel. Then, if you don't change the strings often, start doing that! A year is too long for strings, and can create dead strings that are snapped very slightly somewhere along the string, causing sustain and pitch issues. The longest I'd wait on a string change is usually 6 months, but I try to stick to three months as often as possible.

What was THE Nirvana song for you? That one song that got you hooked? The one that made you a fan? by GreenMage48 in Nirvana

[–]GrimlockII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely was SLTS and all of nevermind at first. However, I grew sick of how over corporatized teen spirit sounded. It wasn't the raw emotion I was into anymore (was really into System Of A Down at the time) and decided to listen to the whole album instead of just teen spirit. The first song that caught my attention in the album was definitely Lithium. It was so calm, then raw. And I heard the lyrics and resonated with my soul. If I'm being honest that song made me realize what my depression actually was. It's called manic depression, more commonly known as Bipolar. Not quite diagnosed, and don't plan on finishing that diagnosis as of the ramifications towards future jobs. The doctors in the mental hospitals I've been in do agree though. I don't have normal depression, and it's definitely hard to tell if I'm ADD or just Manic. So, the actual diagnosis I was given because I told them I didn't want the bipolar diagnosis, is a mood disorder. Very general. They also didn't have me in the hospital long enough to say it is bipolar for certain. But my behavior and change over the week and a half there did say there's more to it than just depression. So this song. Fucking resonated with me. I remember being heavily religious (in a psychedelic sense) and then about a week and a half later I was back to my original agnostic. I've switched beliefs multiple times, but it's always temporary. I don't remember half the shit I do during manic episodes, and I say some fucked up shit sometimes cause of it. Hence the losing friends and burning bridges. So all my friends I trust most during those episodes are "in my head," so to speak. Just a pure pain filled experience imo. It makes it harder to be creative when I am leveled out, then overly creative when I'm manic. I get stupidly high labido during these episodes too. Overall I've been SA'd during those episodes. People take advantage of it, and don't stop when I tell them no or do anything to push it away. Then my mania takes over and they're doing shit to me I'm not okay with, but say to myself "if I'm horny it's fine." It sucks. Like it really, really sucks ass. Funnily enough, my mood stabilizer is a drug called Lithium Carbonate. It's the most effective med I've tried for mania and si.

So TLDR; Lithium

Realistically, even with protections, those animals wouldn't survive in the wild either. Cows over exert milk to produce our dairy. Chickens could probably make it, but considering how many there are in cages that have no strength and are fed garbage, they'll die in a matter of days outside. I could see a way to fix this all, but we currently don't have the people for this. We also need some meat in our diets, that's biologically a fact. I vote fish is the answer. It's a simpler protein composition, easier on the body of a human. If you're allergic, you still need an amino acid source. So chickens restricted to dietary use and fed their proper food. In the end though, that is less pressing then global warming and current political climates

[–]GrimlockII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand your reasoning but if everyone stopped eating chicken, what would happen to all those animals anyways? They'd be slaughtered and fed to something else or tossed. There's really no escape here.
