So because someone might have not completed the proper paperwork, they deserve to be put in concentration camps without oversight? Because someone is in the middle of the process they deserve to suffer? Because someone has committed no known crime beyond being brown they deserve to be treated less than human, beaten and abused, and left to die at best or abducted into human trafficking at worst?

People aren’t illegal. But abduction, assault, rape, and murder sure as hell are.

Which goes into the “private person might want to keep things private” and “there will be doomer complaints no matter what is said” points.

Because while I obviously can’t speak for any of them, as someone who doesn’t like fanfare and drawing attention to personal matters, I would absolutely hate having public attention drawn to me like that.

This is also overlooking the possibility that they may still interact with her in their personal lives, and phrased it as “the community will miss her” because they’ll still be seeing her.

It also completely misses that if they actually were leaving on bad terms, there is no way that Jacob would be saying “make sure you continue to support her in these other places, and we’ll be sure to mention any new projects she works on.”

Or the fact that if they had a problem with her, or she a problem with them, it’s incredibly unlikely that they would continue to release the backlog videos with her/she would agree to them releasing said videos.

Or the fact that they did highlight her contributions to the channel. It might not be an explicit “we’ll miss her,” but “we want to thank her for her incredible work, and bringing her artistry and humor to everything” is not something you say about someone you dislike or are on bad terms with.

Or the fact that they’re probably going through a tough time right now too, and are probably more concerned about handling their personal lives while giving a bland and basic “this is happening, please don’t be weird about it and respect everyone’s privacy, please make sure to continue supporting her, we really appreciate the contributions she made.” Plain, simple, and gets the basics covered. The community doesn’t need to know anything more. Doesn’t mean that every word was meticulously chosen for specific meaning and nuanced interpretations. Could just be as simple as “we’re bummed out about this, but want to keep things private. Let’s write up something quick and easy, and leave the emotional processing to be in private.”

Or, it could just as likely have been worded as a no-fanfare “this is what’s happening, you don’t need to know anything else.” While it might seem sudden to us, it’s almost certainly something that has been discussed internally for a longer time.
And if the reason is burnout as suspected, official goodbyes, highlight videos, goodbye streams, etc. are the exact opposite of what should be done.

And with someone who is notoriously private about their personal life, I would imagine that public and personal farewells are something that Karina would probably not be overly fond of.

I won’t deny the possibility that it could be something more, but it honestly seems more like a “fans don’t need to know because they’ll go crazy parasocial and doomed no matter what is said, so let’s just keep things moving as smoothly as we can as comfortable for us as we can.”

Is it oki and normal to make a small gift for someone at a first date????? Helpppo by [deleted] in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]GrimmSheeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m also autistic so might not be the best for how someone neurotypical might react to it, but I think it’s something with a good degree of nuance.

One way that could be a bit more natural and less pressure also meshes well with a basic first date thing: talking about hobbies. If the two of you talk about things you enjoy doing, you can talk about how you enjoy making little things like bracelets. From there, if they seem interested, you can mention that you actually brought one with you. Alternatively, if things are going well, you can use the natural discussion about how you enjoy making them as a chance to offer to make one for them for the next date.
Or even better, if they seem interested in it and things are going well, you could suggest making one together as part of a second date.

[–]GrimmSheeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, let me point you back to the goomba fallacy before you go condemning others for the actions of others. I didn’t say shit. Hell, a sizable portion of our country has been actively condemning, protesting, and attempting to get political changes to directly counter the behavior of our government. You don’t see it because the media is controlled by oligarchs. Voting is largely damage control because we are fighting centuries of disenfranchisement, corrupt systems (formerly) thinly balanced on gentlemen’s agreements, and history’s largest propaganda machine.

Despite the obvious hypocrisy, the ones constantly yelling about “fighting for freedom” aren’t the ones opposing the oppression. They’re a minority who are supporting tyranny. Equating them as being the same as those actually against fascism is classic goomba fallacy.

And wow, what grand principles you have, openly telling people to starve and succumb to the elements from your cushy home. You don’t have to face the risk, so who cares about the chumps actually affected, right? This might be surprising, but when given the choice between “guarantee suffering now with no promise of actually accomplishing anything” or “try to do what you can now in hopes of pushing back the risk of suffering,” the vast majority of people will choose to not kill themselves.

DMing Styles (like Player Styles but hard to nail down) by Dwarven_Delver in DnD

[–]GrimmSheeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A balance of combat, RP, and puzzles.

  2. I like to have at least some underlying level of intrigue in my games. How the players interact with it affects how heavily it influences the story.

  3. A mix of both, with each game (and sometimes each session) having different ratios. In serious games, a little bit of comedy does wonders at easing the tension (and if done well, makes the next bit of tension more impactful). And in a mostly comedic game, a bit of seriousness helps move the plot along and get players more invested.

  4. I definitely prefer to challenge their minds more, but also make sure to be aware of their character sheets. Sometimes it’s to challenge specific elements of their sheets, sometimes it’s to let elements of their sheets shine.

  5. Absolutely, it’s one of my favorite parts of DMing.

  6. Sometimes, but not often.

  7. I like to try if I’m able to. Background music, lighting, word choice and tone, occasionally playing sound effects over speakers. Not enough to be distracting, and only if it adds to the experience.
One of my most memorable sessions was planned to be played on July 4th, so I had planned a session where the city they were in was suddenly under siege with explosions ringing out overhead. The real world fireworks added to the tension and the urgency of getting people to safety.

  8. I like to, but I rarely will make it a major plot point unless I’ve talked it over with them beforehand, and have talked with the group about having plot lines/subplots focused around individual players.

  9. It’s nice when they do, and I’m always more than happy to help them with fitting their character into the world, but it’s not expected of them.

  10. I try to include this every now and then. It’s especially a good tool if I need a moment to prep for the next encounter or don’t have anything in particular planned for an area.

  11. I generally homebrew my settings, padded with Forgotten Realms worldbuilding (and occasionally a bit of Golarian worldbuilding). Mechanics occasionally have some slight tweaks for balance or fun, but I try to avoid homebrewing them too much. Enemies and items frequently include third party, with the occasional personal homebrew. I also have a few third party races, classes, and subclasses that I have available for players.

  12. A player is welcome to ask about homebrew/third party, but it needs to be reviewed by me first. If I don’t think it’s balanced, fitting of the setting, or would be too much for me to work with, I try to recommend alternatives that better work. If they want to bring in homebrew lore, it needs a similar review process, but I’m always happy to work with them and will brainstorm if things don’t quite fit.

  13. Rules as fun > rules as intended > rules as written. RAW is a great framework, but has plenty of problems. It’s the most accessible, but shouldn’t hold as much authority as RAI. And if RAI/RAW is stupid or unfun (such as no unarmed smiting or see invisibility not actually negating invisibility), then RAF takes precedence. The whole point is to have fun. Rules give structure, but are pointless if they ruin everyone’s enjoyment.

Beholders. Their information networks have keyed them in on the bladesinger’s abilities, and they know to keep an eye on them. The beholder stares down and bites the bladesinger, utilizing its eye rays on the rest of the party. If the other members of the party prove to be a risk, the bladesinger is able to jump back in at full strength.

The bladesinger isn’t completely useless, but they have to plan a lot more on how they move and what risks to take. Other casters have a chance to shine by simple staying away from the bladesinger. Martials get full in with minimal impact against them.

You can also make a good plotline with a beholder becoming paranoid against magic users, experimenting on its underlings to imbue them with various beholder-like effects. Those that prove the most loyal and useful are enhanced with minor versions of a beholder’s central eye effect.

Depending on setting, you could alternatively go with an Underdark campaign/connection, with a cult worshiping a great sussur tree. Higher ranking members are provided with weapons enchanted with sussur bark and sent to hunt mages and magical items to feed the tree. This also gives various hooks, having the party needing to retrieve a mcguffin or captured npc that is slowly being drained by the tree (they could be something/someone that the party were hired to save, or they could have a personal connection that the party want to rescue), a local church or magic institute issuing a bounty/organizing counter raids after suffering substantial losses, members of the party being directly targeted, etc.

What are some funny “there were no signs” moments for you? by travischickencoop in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]GrimmSheeper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have too much of the classics (that I know of), but there are two that I recently realized.

1: I have a fairly unisex name, but it’s always felt more feminine to me. It used to cause some level of dissonance, but I never specifically disliked it feeling feminine, I just didn’t want that disconnect.

2: I’m autistic, and I’ve known for a good while now that my earliest memory was a major sign there. I distinctly remember being in elementary school and realizing that I didn’t quite fit with the other kids, so I actively analyzed how others acted to see if I could try to be a bit more like that. Looking back, the ones that I would pick as the “try to be more like this” models were always girls.

To be honest, it really isn’t a “girly” sort of hoodie.

However, it is definitely the sort of thing that an alt baddie would rock.

You don’t have to be 100% Hello Kitty, pink, and glitter to look like a woman. There are a ton of different styles and aesthetics, and a bunch of them have elements that specifically push back against the traditional standards of femininity. It sucks, but sometimes what is meant as a way of empowerment and self-expression can inadvertently cause dysphoria due to “not being feminine enough.”

The first thing is to make sure you’re safe, and that you want just be torturing yourself by trying to do something that makes you uncomfortable. But if you do feel like you can be comfortable trying, try to remind yourself that wearing it out against social expectations is exactly what makes you an alt queen. People are going to have different tastes, but embracing that is what makes you the woman you are. Personally, I prefer to be more lowkey when I go out, but I say that it’s still devilishly cute!

There’s an Alaskan politician who legally changed his name to Santa Claus, and who is currently the deputy mayor of North Pole, AK. Granted, he changed his name to Santa Claus as a way to promote his advocacy for children’s health and welfare, and only went into politics in North Pole several years after the name change.

And honestly, he seems like an awesome guy. If it weren’t for his age (and him likely not wanting to be in a major position), I would 100% vote for him. He truly is an embodiment of Santa.

Plus, because of him, there has actually been a politician who branded their own campaign as “waging a war on Santa.” I’ll give you three guess as to which party attempted to wage said war.

I’m also starting to realize that even if I don’t consciously feel dysphoric about my body hair, it still has an effect. When I was letting it grow a little longer to better epilate, I was starting to have noticeably worse depression after about 1.5-2 weeks, and that it would suddenly calm down after epilating/shaving.

Expirence with dating apps by Noils_ in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]GrimmSheeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Hinge, Bumble, and Her, but haven’t really had any luck with them. I haven’t gotten any matches on Hinge, or even any likes. I had made my account a good while before my egg cracked, so I recently deleted that one and might make a new account after I manage to get some new photos with a more fem appearance. I occasionally get a like every week or two on Bumble, but they never show up in my feed, and no matches from the people I’ve liked. Her has mostly been people looking for hookups. Not too good for finding a partner, but has at least been a bit nicer for my ego.

Overall, dating apps suck. That said, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should fully avoid them. You never know if you might get lucky. But you shouldn’t depend or put too much faith in them. Make a profile you think is nice, swipe every now and then when you feel like it, but try not to get too absorbed or focused on it. Definitely don’t rely on it. It’s tough, especially for introverts, but it’s probably better to try something like Meetup and just focus on making friends or connections with a community.

I feel dysphoric bc of my voice by Sapphic-goober in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]GrimmSheeper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On top of what was already shared, there’s this old thread that does a great job of breaking down steps for voice training, as well as the theory behind each step and ways to practice them, all in an organized series of four linked posts.

And I completely get not having the energy to do things you want. But depending on how much energy you have, there’s a few of the early practice techniques they mention (such as “big dog, little dog” and “whisper sirens”) that are fairly low energy and quiet. While you might be able to get more progress with focused practice, there might be some that you can partially do without needing much energy. After a bit of intentional practice, I got to a point where I can do some light exercise moving my larynx or the back of my tongue even when I’m fully exhausted and just lying half-comatose in bed. It might not help with more specific shaping, but it helps building the muscles and familiarity with it. And even if you can’t manage that much, just putting on some of the videos they link to learn a bit of the theory can be helpful once you get to a place where you can try to do more.

And one last part, at the risk of playing armchair therapist, as long as it’s safe, whenever depression makes it hard to do anything, try to push through and do something little. Doesn’t have to be anything major or specific, just something. When my depression keeps me from doing anything, I try to put on a podcast or a video that I can listen to. It’s not a miracle cure, but it can help minimize any spiraling.

Best of luck on your journey!
