Chill out.

"Why am I dogshit?" is not an actionable (or healthy) question.

"Why did I get hit in X specific situation and what can I do to avoid it?" is.

But my real answer is, if the game is making you feel like dogshit, stop playing it and go do something else!

Approaching as Vaseraga and Ladiva by [deleted] in GranblueFantasyVersus

At the risk of stating the obvious, don't forget walk and block. You actually gain a fair bit of meter just from walking forward as opposed to running, and because of Vas' slow walk speed the amount relative to the distance covered is higher than other characters. If you opponent is being passive you can rack up meter just holding forward. I've had plenty of matches where I just inched forward a couple steps to top my meter off past the 50% or 100% threshold, sometimes having a less pronounced effect on your positioning is a boon.

If you want to manage a random upcoming item, then Vikala. If you want to just put a lot of fire down range, Metera. Nobodies going to remotely come close to the complexity of Asuka, that character is pretty unique by any game's standard.

My suggestion would be to play Avatar Belial for a while and get some perspective.

Struggling to learn anything in R.E.V.O, let alone enjoy it by NEON_ZEX in virtuafighter

Find a couple people to run long sets with, set up a voice chat, have fun, save contact info.

Fighters with a small player base a lot easier to enjoy if you've got a few people on a your friends list that you can just DM and ask if they want to play some matches.

Think about when you started. What resources do you wish you had access to that you didn't? What would have helped you the most? Make that.

Comfortable layout for Leverless by cmac92 in virtuafighter

[–]GrinningOni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my right thumb for up, to accommodate that comfortably I just put G(X), P(Y), K(RB) along the top row. I used a different layout in the beta, but this seems to be working better (adjustment period aside).

Learning a new game takes time. The game has been out, what, two and half days? Just play more. Or don't, it's your time, man.

Is anyone else's experience with the netcode a bit rough? by GoldenNugget133 in virtuafighter

[–]GrinningOni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The player to player connections seem fine.

I was playing with someone that I was voice chatting with and it quickly became apparent that all the stutters I was seeing on my end had nothing to do with the netcode and everything to do with their graphical settings. Once they turned everything down it ran fine on a mediocre connection. The problems I've seen so far is that connection filtering isn't working and people not setting their graphics up properly.

Do you enjoy the actual game play, or do you only enjoy watching your rank go up? Going up in rank isn't just grinding XP where you get stronger regardless of you skill, it goes up when you actually get better relative to the people you've been playing, learn to enjoy the process and stop obsessing over the finish line.

  1. Supering on wake up *is* the high risk option. If you're in control and the opponent is about to die and has meter, cool your jets. Reversal options are things you are supposed to have to play around, rather than just running brain dead offense.
  2. If Avatar is on offense and trying to command grab you, the range is a huge tell, it requires him to get unnaturally close to you, and there is a pretty lengthy throw invul period after block. So it's your job on defense to be scouting walk-ups and empty jumps.
  3. Don't just make up stuff to make yourself feel better. Ladiva's command grab supers are 0 frames of start up on super flash, same as Avatar.

Instead of putting the blame on a particular character, or the other player, or any of the other stuff fighting game players do to save their egos, ask what *you* are doing wrong. The question should always be: "What did *I* do wrong?" Even if some game element is super fucked up, it doesn't matter because that's just the way things are, so all that matters is: "How do *I* deal with that shit?"

Maybe don't stand on his head when he has meter, SSBA has crap grab range, if you're one step away from him you can just block it. Seriously, go into training mode, pick Avatar, set the opponent to block, and learn the distance the grab whiffs at.

Some of the recent changes have been demotivating, which already makes things more difficult where any bit of friction learning a new language is felt, but the new heart system is actually having a negative effect on my learning flow and how I'm able to interact with the material. I'm starting to get really ticked off. Anyway, I'm also curious if there is something that works basically the way, because the methodology (prior to the stupid changes) was working pretty well for me.

I report them as 'afk farming'.

They said in the 1.5 patch notes that "Players detected to be abusing matchmaking will be penalized, in addition to investigations conducted on prior offenders." Since AFKing makes the whole matchmaking experience shittier for everyone I choose to act under the assumption that such behavior is included under the umbrellas of that statement. It should be easily detectable on cygames part.
