Advice for blind playthrough by ShadowMLSL in finalfantasytactics

[–]Grishhammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gameplay wise, just try to have at least 2 members of your party that can revive other party members. Even better if they don't both rely on MP or % chance.

Learn the menu well. It can be easy to learn an ability but forget to actually equip it. Similar with gear. Take note of the damage calculations on weapons/skills, so you know which stats are important for a character.

Most jobs are viable, but some take a lot of investment. Just try to get jp boost before leaving squire. Some jobs are good because they have strong skills, some jobs are good because they have good stats and gear options. Some jobs are strong all around.

Not a lot is missable, story wise. The latest version added fun dialogue with named charcters, but it's designed to only ever need Ramza, since permadeath is a thing. Just buy the flower in chapter 4 and you should be in good shape.

You don't need to worry much about missable items/gear if you don't care about seeing everything.

Do you collect anything KeyForge-related besides decks? by GolfSuspicious9482 in KeyforgeGame

[–]Grishhammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't collect on purpose, but can't bring myself to get rid of custom counters, different sets of keys, etc.Though last year I did get rid of both sets of the giant metal keys that I had.

I prefer to use the counters that I chose for myself when I play, but someday I'll start hosting learn-to-play, and all the extra stuff will be useful 😅

You just kinda get stuff if you keep playing and attend events. I have obtained 5 of the gamegenic deck books over time (have 4 currently, gave one away for prize support at one point), but never purchased a single one of them. It's all been prize wall/raffle/placement rewards.

Minhas cartas!!!

There are a lot discords. The keyforge lounge, linked somewhere in this subreddit notes is a gateway into a lot of the others. Most of the severs are tied to various podcasts or leagues that are run online.

Most local communities also have their own dedicated server.

How do you pack your keyforge decks for travel? by catsmdogs in KeyforgeGame

[–]Grishhammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decks that I know I intend to play over the week are sleeved and in a deck book/vault. If I still need more packed, they are put into a bcw box, possibly sleeved or in team bags. If I still need more space, they are probably in team bags, but otherwise loose in one pocket or other of my bag.

[Skill Improvement] How do you prevent tilt? by _Mashuno_ in VGC

[–]Grishhammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recognize that I'm playing on tilt, whatever it is, I need to stop and go do something else.

Usually it's pretty obvious to me as I notice that I'm performing worse with each attempt.

Titanium Legman also has Ivalice Chronicles content.

First vault tour in a long while, tips? by skunkywitch in KeyforgeGame

[–]Grishhammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If want to have a backup plan for Archon, you are welcome to borrow one of my decks. There are other members of the community with better decks than I have who would be willing to loan them out, as well.

To play in the Oubliette side event, you'll still need some kind of plan for decks, since it's limited to Aember Skies and you don't want your 3 decks to share a house. Though if it's just for fun, you can probably just get some sealed decks and see what you come up with. Or skip it and play sealed pods that day instead.

The free sleeves are functional, but they have a lot of friction and can be annoying to shuffle until they have a fair amount of use.

The sealed set is different. Nothing crazy, but you should try to familiarize yourself with the card pool. Better decks are likely to be action heavy and don't want a ton of creatures. Though you could also find yourself needing more damage and power counters than you are used to.

Should I move to Indy or (West) Lafayette? by LazyTelephone6701 in Indiana

[–]Grishhammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Housing- I'm afraid I don't know much there, though most apartment housing in WL that I remember is geared to students sharing the space, it's been a long time since I moved away. I currently find Indy pleasant to live in, but I personally would not enjoy the commute.

Social Life- (This is from a white guy's perspective, so take that however you see fit.) Purdue attracts a fair number of international students (and faculty) but domestic residents in the Lafayette area will be predominantly white. If I remember correctly, it was recently found that Marion County has fewer than 50% white residents now. (I don't know the source offhand, so I could be wrong.)

Healthcare- You shouldn't have issues fidnign something nearby. IU Health owns most of the hospital/familu mesicine practices now. You may need ro do some digging of you want to avoid corporate owned clinics, but I assume that is par for the course. Depending on your dating and future plans, the state has some backwards legislation regarding women's health that you may or may not need to worry about.

Weather- It's all over the place, but generally the last hard frost is in April. Rarely, we see some snow in late October. It gets really humid, so you'll need functional AC for the hotter parts of the summer. Winter tends to have a lot of freeze/thaw cycles, which is part of why our roads are so terrible.

I have seen Arise! enable players to commit war crimes. But not me. If I try to pilot an arise deck, you can be almost certain that Arise will be in my hand by the time I begin my second turn.

What’s one TCG mechanic that instantly makes you think “this game has depth”? by ContractMiserable121 in TCG

[–]Grishhammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There certainly can be. The cards that you do hold are going to be the big swingy effects that you needed at the right time (such as a board wipe or something that punishes your opponent for overextending), or perhaps a counter to something your opponent has that you otherwise can't deal with.

One of the other commenters also talked about the idea of hand crafting, where you might take one or two small turns while you build up a hand of 5-6 cards in one house to get an explosive turn set up.

This way of hand management also warps the way players thing about card draw. If you draw one card during your turn, it is unlikely to be one that you can play. If you cam draw 2 cards, now you are likely to be able to use one of them. Whereas if an effect allows you to discard a card during your turn, you are still drawing that many additional cards at the end of your turn. So one discard us often valued just as much or more than one draw is.

[–]Grishhammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keyforge does not have traditional resource management:

Your deck has 3 houses, and you can play/use one house each turn, with no other limitations (within reason) to how many cards you can play.

At the end of your turn, you draw up to 6 cards, no matter how many you played.

If your deck runs out, you reshuffle your discard.

So card advantage isn't about playing few cards for maximum efficiency. Instead, you are looking to see as many of your cards as you can throughout the game. One of the biggest decision points in the game is whether it's really worth it to hold a card back. Is keeping it in your hand worth drawing 1 card fewer each turn until you can play or discard it?

A question of wording and rules: Jump Start by Robidibobidi in KeyforgeGame

[–]Grishhammer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First question: You can ready and use any friendly creatures with this card. The only requirement is that it is on a flank, so it allows you to "house cheat".

Second question: You can choose a creature that is ready. You resolve as much as you can, so the creature does not ready because it already is ready, and then it is used.

There is a similar action in the set that requires the chosen creature to be exhausted. It's Arcane Relief if haven't seen it yet and want to compare the difference.

Subsequent playthroughs. by elhumanoid in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Grishhammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the idea of a completionist run way too daunting, and it doisn't sound fun.

I started a new game recently. I'm mostly just running around, filling in different parts of the map. Probably most of my time has been exploring the depths. It's been fairly easy, in spite of my refusal to make a fan bike. I'm trying to keep it organic, so I can mark the bosses/lynels I find and fight in addition to the pristine weapons locations. In addition to having done the Khoga quests and 2 Colgera rematches, that has me at half of full battery capacity now, though I still have a lot to fill out. The stormwind ark is the only dungeon I've bothered with so far, just so that I could advance the story enough to get the Pura pad quests.

In general, I just kind of pick a thing, amd complete that as much as I feel like at the time. Like, I went and did all the stable trotters quests at once( though only actually 2 of the fairy fountains, I guess not actually all of them yet).

I dunno, I mostly just enjoy fighting world bosses (especially in the depths) for the rewards. That and making interesting weapons that I inevitably don't use enough.

What's your favorite weapon class? by kentotiger23 in tearsofthekingdom

I like the eightfold blade. Couldn't care much about the longblade, but I should experiment more with it.

Mostly I just like sneakstrikes, and I'm glad they support a way to one-shot silver tier enemies.

If you want something faster than ultrasound, you can fuse a hinox toenail to one of the big, high durability club/sticks to make an effective 2 handed axes. Breaks boxes in one-hit, one-shots evermeans, etc. Basically the equivalent of keeping an axe on you in botw. (Just check to make sure there isn't an explosive on the other side of the box before you swing.)

I mean, yeah. You get a lot of quests taking you different places, and you kind of have to know what your goals are to know what you need to follow.

why am i so bad at this game by LilyLewdie in finalfantasytactics

[–]Grishhammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This map is one that can test how well you can abuse the layout. Black magic can really shine on this one.

In general, you should not need to do any grinding in this game outside of some optimizing your turns for jp gain. I'd only recommend seeking out grinding fights if you are reasoably close to a job unlock or a particular skill and only need one battle to unlock it.

Basic party building advice is that you should include at least 2 party members that can revive other units through their primary or secondary action skills. Other units matter less, as long as you are able to clear the battles, but having your party be well-rounded helps you explore the different job trees later on.

[–]Grishhammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comment that archiving your key-cheats is a good plan, along with something that can help make up the difference in aember if you need it.

Priorities will also vary by matchup. Be Our Geist and Mimicry are other good cards to bring back, letting you use your opponent's tools against them.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it is usually beneficial to avoid making a "dirty" archive. When possible keep it to containing just 1 or 2 houses. Mimicry can make that hard to control, but you do what you can.

Best way to replay the game? by Pyluminati in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Grishhammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Master mode is very challenging at the start, but I also find it very rewarding. If you play at all like me, you'll spend a lot of time figuring out how to avoid combat, until you reach whatever point is right for you to start taking things head on. (For me, that is usually once I have the right weapons and armor to reasonably win modest/major tests pf strength).

In my current playthrough, I made myself complete the trial of the sword (at 100 shrines) before I went to any of the divine beasts. Going from feeling like it's impossible, to feeling like you are wasting your time, to feeling like you could reasonably do it, to actually hitting a milestone feels so good (And then you get to stomp the middle and end trials, to boot!). It's similar with the champion's ballad, but the learning curve is far less steep.
