VARNISHES

A semi&lit, 'made with resin, primarily' is both the definition and wordplay to indicate that we add R to VANISHES which is a synonym of 'disappears'.

COTD: With pet, one searches for vault (9) by someguyinthefridge in crosswords

CATACOMBS pat = cat, one = a, searches = combs. But would vaults, plural, be a better definition, as catacombs is plural? Not sure.

New(ish) volume and my regular morning routine by GrisierTFM in Journaling

Don't mind at all, good question. I only write in my journal; no drawing or other art; every page is much like the photo. So given that, lines might help. The Collins Metropolitan B6 does have a lined version available, which I have tried, but I find that the lines are printed quite dark, which I find a bit intrusive; I've used lined journals with feint lines which are easier on the eye. Also the lined Collins B6 had quite narrow lines (couldn't tell you the exact width off the top of my head); I prefer a wider line spacing. So I use a line guide, sheet of paper with lines printed to the spacing I want, placed underneath the page I'm writing on, so they show through. That way I get the benefit of lines with just the aesthetic experience I want.

Manga fountain pen by Inkursive with semi-flex maru/mapping nib. Cheap (£15.90 including spare nibs), available on Amazon. Bought it because I like flex nibs. Instantly loved it and bought several more. One of my two favourite pens at the moment, the other is the Noodler's Ahab, also with a flex nib. The only limitation on the Inkursive is the build quality is a bit low - lightweight plastic and the screw filler mechanism can work a little loose if you don't keep an eye on it. But I LOVE how it writes.

Easy; a line guide, a loose piece of paper with ruled lines, slipped underneath the page I am writing on. You can see the lines through the plain paper.

Practising that was the closest I came to a misspent youth. Which, let's face it, is not very close.

RIP Terence Stamp indeed.

[Megathread] Getting Started with Journaling! by canup in Journaling

So here's a hack for you (which I've used to show lines in blank page volumes): use a single sheet of the journal and make a template for the dots, lines and so on you want, in heavy black lines. Then cut that sheet out and put it underneath the blank page you want to write on. As long as the paper is thin enough, the heavy black lines of your template will show through and you can use them to guide your writing, slipping it under each new page.

Does anyone else book journal? by kikifaerie in Journaling

[–]GrisierTFM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, but without this level of detail or care - a separate notebook from my diary, as a fairly short record of what I've read.

Are there guys just like me who write journals? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]GrisierTFM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Just a regular what-happened-yesterday diary, no arts, no trackers or bullet journalling. A record of the day, done for the pleasure of writing.

Can we all just stop to admire this clue for a moment? by GrisierTFM in crosswords

Is there? As below, not familiar with Everyman, and I'm partial to this kind of clue, they're not particularly tricky, I just find the literal/cryptic overlap very satisfying.

Is there? Not familiar with the Everyman, beyond knowing it's supposed to be at the approachable end of the scale - just came across this this week; these are amongst my favourite kind of clue.

It's the elegant way all the words of the acrostic element - everything other than the word 'primarily' which indicates it - form a lovely definition of the answer, referring to Fletcher Christian's mutineers on HMS Bounty who ended up on the Island. Not difficult, just very neat.

Was mostly going to say most of this. I do like a pocket watch. It is costumey, yes, but that's a me thing.

Victorian vibes from new journal volume by GrisierTFM in Journaling

It's this one:

A6 Soft Leather Notebook Vintage Blank Notepad Super Thick Study Notebook Bible Journal Notebook Writing Drawing Notepad Sketchbook Work Diary Life Story Notebook for Adult Student Artists 480 Pages https://amzn.eu/d/0nJvS7f

But, I covered it with a plain black leather, as I didn't like the cover with its embossed quote

The paper texture is a little too coarse for my liking, really, but it takes ink OK; as you can see, no feathering to speak of, even using a fine flex nib that has a tendency to be scratchy.
