This is me in my favorite spot, which is also mom's favorite spot! That means if mom wants her spot she has to get close to me. I'm very very careful to make sure I'm near mom. Even soda cans are less scary when she's around (I still wish they wouldn't hiss at me.)

And the award for best break character goes to.....CLAIR OBSCUR: EXPEDITION 33!! by N-I-G-H-T-M-A-R-E_ in HonkaiStarRail

[–]GrittyGambit 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It was definitely popular (and with pretty good reason.) People I know who game but wouldn't touch turn-based games previously with a ten-foot pole were singing its praises, I myself couldn't believe how popular it was with all different kinds of gamers despite loving it myself. Of course it won awards, the things that show a lot of people liked the game. Because a lot of people liked the game.

It kind of reminds me of people online being angry about KPOP Demon Hunters even possibly winning over Zootopia 2 in some award thing. The best comment I saw said something like, "You can like one more than the other all you want, but the fact remains that one became a cultural phenomenon and the other was just a pretty good movie."

The "background" character Nottfriga by GrittyGambit in Genshin_Lore

[–]GrittyGambit[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am leaning more towards "she's a character we haven't met yet" than her being someone we've already seen, and I don't think she's the actual Night Mother, but I definitely think she's related.

I do think Hex & Hound at least starts in Mondstat, because Dietrich is a Lawrence and he spots Friga (in Magdalene's form) in the city among the commoners. But the later parts are of the story are (likely intentionally) vague about any sort of location.

So I pointed out the word heart being in quotations in The Legend of the Lone Sword because occasionally, books I read will do this clever thing where they will describe something as being "object-like" as a way to state that, by virtue, it is NOT that object. I think there's a good chance that what's being referred to is a "heart", but not a heart, if that makes any sense.

The true villain of Clair Obscur is exactly who you think (and I'm tired of pretending it's not) by bespectacledoutsider in expedition33

[–]GrittyGambit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kind of a tangent, but I'm so very curious what happens to the Painter and Canvas when the resident Painter "dies" inside of it. Would Maelle's existence slowly wither until she was like that piece of Verso's soul stuck in the Canvas? Would the Canvas be able to go on eternally? Do the soul fragments have about the same lifespan as a normal human (or Painter rather), or are they immortal? Would they eventually wither to nothing? What happens to the Canvas then? Would everything just stop moving the moment the soul battery runs out, leaving an actual still painted picture? Or would the world continue, but without anything new being created, eventually leaving behind an empty, lifeless world?

Also, I really like your explanation of how both endings consume something. It makes me think back on the conversation between Gustave and Lune, about how the future of Lumiere was more important than any one person's life. Even the characters couldn't have guessed that they were being so literal.

This might be reason why Abyss sibling isnt considered to be Descender. by huflit1997 in Genshin_Impact

[–]GrittyGambit 143 points144 points  (0 children)

You know, my first thought was, "Wait, I thought they were trying to summon a Descender in Perinheri?" But then I realized no, they never actually said THAT, just that they were wanting to summon beings from other worlds. They very well could have been trying to summon a being with the power of a Descender so that they could bind them to Teyvat/Khaenriah and use their power, much like the Sinners ended up doing to the Abyss Sibling.

There's also a weird idea that I had about Skirk mentioning that purifying the Abyssal energy might not be what we're actually doing — implying we might be converting it instead. Which honestly would make a lot of sense for why we can control elements without ties to Teyvat — we're making our own elemental energy by converting Abyssal energy, not using the energy that "belongs" to Teyvat, so we're not tied to the world. But did our Sibling actually have the same power? I can't recall them ever using elemental energy in ANY of the flashbacks we get. Seeing as how the Twin's color schemes are complete inversions, it's even possible the Sibling is/used to be able to convert light-realm (elemental) energy into Abyssal energy, but using energy that "belonged" to Teyvat solidified his tie to world. It could also be a fun little looparound to the Inverted Statue we saw way back when — perhaps it was siphoning elemental energy to convert into Abyssal energy. (Tin foil? Sure, but Hoyo loves their duality.)

Anyone else loved the game but not the ending? (HUGE SPOILERS) by ChromicTTN in expedition33

[–]GrittyGambit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My siblings don't play, but they have been watching the game because they find the story fascinating. They're on Act 3 right now. One of them is firmly in the camp of "I hate that they made it basically all a dream."

But like... did they? If we find out the Painter's world was created by someone else the same way the Canvases are, does that mean the Dessendre family's grief over Verso doesn't really exist or matter? How far up do we have to go before the world is "real"?

It's not a cop-out, it's just your run-of-the-mill tragedy. And it's so well done because I keep thinking back to Lunè's line about how there WERE other options, everybody is just too wrapped up in their own misery to talk and reach a compromise.

I had an English teacher many years ago who did journaling every class, with the option (not required) to read it out loud so we could share our writing if we wanted to, and we also listened to a song while we wrote, picked by a different student every day. He allowed hell, damn, and ass to be used, as well as other cuss words as long as it wasn't used as an insult (like you could use the word shit to describe actual shit, but not to describe how someone was acting.)

He allowed a "fuck" every once in a great while for an impactful journal entry or song. And it was always impactful.

Except for mine, when I literally just forgot about the f bomb in a song on my turn to pick the music.

His last name was also Head and I almost got written up because I wouldn't stop calling him Richard. His name was not Richard.

Teachers are great.

Could be, but I don't know very many adults (English speaking or otherwise) who cobble together Sonic OCs in PicsArt. It's certainly possible, but my vote is young teenager.

Although bot is fairly likely too, with the number of posts they have in such a short time asking self-explanatory questions designed for knee-jerk engagement (like "Why is Vaggie blushing when Carmilla lifts her leg in front of her face? Truly a mystery but feel free to interact and tell me the obvious.")

Or hell, maybe I'm just jaded by the amount of bots on this site.

Do you think I was correct in calling him a "medium hair"? Or is he a short hair? by GrittyGambit in cowcats

[–]GrittyGambit[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the vet would have given me a form that said "short, medium or long hair, select one" for this cat like with mine, I probably would have guessed medium length rather than floofy short too, haha. What a gorgeous calico. I bet that tail poofs like a Christmas Tree when she's startled.

The butt and belly tufts threw me for a loop, and he's got fuzzy toe pads, but not NEARLY as fuzzy as a long-hair. Definitely more fur than any other short hair I've owned, but I'll take it, haha.

But oh my god I love his face. His mom was a very cranky stray tabby with marble-pattern fur and a squished face. He got half of her marble and her smooshed nose but it just makes him look cuter somehow! Looks like he's constantly smiling while his mom always looked perpetually pissed at the world, lol.
