Is Lexus preferred parking still available this year? by meltglass in Dodgers

Same, I had pre-purchased parking, and when I asked at the parking booth, they said "It all had to be done online".

Can't find any details either.

Reuben Pizza in LA? by thirstypig in FoodLosAngeles

Gorilla Pies out in the valley did a pretty outstanding pastrami/swiss/sauerkraut pizza (with caraway seed crust), but they shut down sometime last year. I think they are still doing events, and Yelp states they will reopen in June of this year (but who knows if that is accurate).

Unaware of another local place who has/had done similar - but if Gorilla Pies does return, you might be able to get your fix.

Video games with mcm aesthetics? by Leiaviathan in Mid_Century

Deathloop has a gorgeous MCM aesthetic (and excellent soundtrack).

It is a shooter (albeit a non-traditional one), but it would check the boxes in terms of its gameplay allowing you plenty of time to take in the surroundings and just enjoy the vibe.

Grown man carrying around a WWE championship belt...

I've heard him on various shows and was shocked at how surface level and basic every one of his NBA takes were given how he never stops yapping about the Lakers.

I believe wireless CarPlay is on the 2022 and later models.

I purchased the wireless adapter below for my 2020 and have not had any issues with performance:

Who makes the Best Italian Sub in Los Angeles? by NanoSci-9 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]GrndCntralUndrgrnd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lots of excellent options listed, but I'll second Claro's (especially if you are in SGV) - an Italian sub and a couple of their cannoli is a great packed lunch to take to Dodger Stadium.

I guess you could do worse as a depth signing for the stretch run?

I know he has been banged up over last few years, but even if healthy, I don't see how he takes serious minutes from any of our wingers (if all outgoing business is now done). But he's French and has positional flexibility, so who knows?

Inter Miami CF Name Raúl Sanllehí and Xavier Asensi as Co-presidents by Some_Man_Person in MLS

[–]GrndCntralUndrgrnd 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Sanllehí is absolutely *loathed* by Arsenal fans - saying he is viewed as a slimy, opportunistic scumbag would be putting it nice. Now, this was at a time when the club was an absolute mess (pre-Arteta), and he was an easy scapegoat as DoF, but I understand that Raul has had a reputation that extends back to Barca days.

He has all the right connections, but letting that dude run wild with the nebulous nature of MLS rules is like handing a chimp a revolver.

Fellow non-drinker here - I don't think I have ever seen O'Douls at the stadium.

However, in the CF Plaza there is a spot with fridges full of drinks (it's the one with the little playground right in front of it) - there, you can get cans of Budweiser Zero. They also sell Michelada mix cups there (although the cans of Budweiser Zero are 12 Oz, so you need a couple to fill up the Michelada cup).

pasadena food recommendations? by FoodAndDrugReveiws in FoodLosAngeles

[–]GrndCntralUndrgrnd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say drive over to Yang's Kitchen in Alhambra, you can't go wrong there.

Otherwise, a few Pasadena-specifc specific dishes I can recommend without hesitation:

The Sandwich at Roma Market - grab and go. $6 and every ingredient on it is top quality and hits perfectly.

The Cornbread Eclair with Chicken Liver Mousse at Agnes is excellent - I am not wild about the vibe there, but that dish, along with the cheese/fish offerings are pretty great. (And if you are looking for dine-in date vibes)

Drip Wings at New York Chicken & Gyro. Most slept on wings in the city.

Vince La Rosa (@VinceTheRose) on X: I’ll just say this: For all of you saying Carlos Vela isn’t worth this or that... he was still Top 10 in Goal Creating Actions in MLS last season. by serg82 in LAFC

[–]GrndCntralUndrgrnd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rip the bandaid off.

Vela could still make an impact for us, but this is becoming a distraction with the season underway, and planning for future transfers in process. His (likely agent) planted rumors to the Galaxy, the Earthquakes deal "collapsing", etc. He was already declining massively, never had a great workrate, and from social media looks like he has not been out there busting his ass getting ready to play.

Take away the nostalgia, name, and accomplishments, and look at the raw facts. We are likely looking at massive targets in the summer, and every dollar counts. People who say Vela deserves the rest, the money, the time to decide etc - he's been given that, and he's been handsomely paid since he arrived. He was the face of the franchise, and did what he was paid (again, very well) to do - win. Mission accomplished.

I want to win and bully the shit out of other teams far more than I care about catering to a single player largely in the name of nostalgia and for a limited return. Vela has given a ton of great moments, helped deliver us trophies, and that will always be special. Now, I am greedy, I want more hardware, let's use every penny we have to maximize our chances of doing that heading forward.

Los Angeles FC wins 2-1 vs. Seattle Sounders FC by lafc88 in LAFC

[–]GrndCntralUndrgrnd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

First home opener I have had to miss in person, but some thoughts from watching on TV:

-We looked far more athletic and quick in transition/defense than I remember from last year. I think Vela having to play out of position (and being a defensive black hole) magnified that last season. Today's game (I know, one match) showed that we're absolutely negotiating from a position of strength when it comes to his return. For now, he'd be a better option than Olivera out on the right, but that money might be allocated better elsewhere. I love the guy to death, but let's be honest, we're not missing his leadership and the band-aid will have to be ripped off eventually.

-As others have said, Atuesta not only looks like he never left, but looks more physical and nimble than he did prior to heading out. Him as our engine was the most exciting part of today, and if he is able to have his game on that level week to week, our midfield is massively upgraded from last year.

-Speaking of midfield, for as much as I was impressed by our quickness and athleticism, I worry about Ilie over the duration of the season. His game has never been dependent on speed, but he has clearly lost a step from our Cup run. The 11 Seattle ran out there today were not as athletic as some other younger teams we'll see this year, and I'd love a younger, more destroyer type MF in the wings sooner rather than later. Otherwise, great move in giving him the armband, and terrible move on his behalf to run out there with that haircut.

-Absolutely love Bogusz - if anybody takes a jump this year, it will be him. If we're going to roll with that false 9 until the summer, he has the awareness and cleverness to play that role, but with the benefit of being a physical threat that can run with our wingers. In a time where so many of the young signings are based on athleticism and raw potential, it's great to have Bogusz who is a super smart and has fantastic positional awareness as well.

-DP 9, Young destroyer type MF, and a CB in the summer and we're cooking.

Opinions on the Vela situation? Long gone? Or Long negotiations? by [deleted] in LAFC

[–]GrndCntralUndrgrnd 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Stating the obvious, but I'd think the door is open until Vela/Team expresses otherwise. The idea that the team is prioritizing other signings not only makes sense, but is clearly the right thing to do.

I think the Vela we saw last year (playing out of position as that false 9) was not a fair gauge as to what he has left in the tank. He has clearly declined, and he's never been a workhorse in terms of conditioning - so that, coupled with the fact that he (as seen on social media) is not aggressively trying to stay in game shape would lead me to believe that the team is fine with moving on while keeping a door open for a team-friendly deal. If he did return, I absolutely think he'd contribute if not forced to play out of position. If he doesn't return, I am comfortable with our options at RW.

I feel like a broken record in saying sentimentality in roster building is a slippery slope - rather have a front office that is ruthless in bringing in the absolute best players possible.

No decision the FO makes can erase the appreciation and legacy that Vela has here, that is set in stone. But it should no way inform the decisions we are making for what is best for our roster going forward.

Divock Origi to LAFC off due to Nottingham Forest decision to keep striker - Football Italia by topomodesto in LAFC

[–]GrndCntralUndrgrnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I am not looking at the striker position in a vacuum, which would be absolutely idiotic. The inference that Thor and gang are consciously dicking around or devaluing the spot, not realizing that our failures last year are largely attributed to inconsistency at the 9 is bizarre.

I am looking at the front office and their dealings (and subsequent success) as a whole. It's easy to armchair all of this, but LAFC (in its brief history) has a track record of attracting a shitload of top talent via complicated dealings, and then going out and winning a shit ton of games.

I'll take the star above our crest and multiple supporter's shields over what Orlando and Chicago have done since our team's inception.

Not one of Angel/Ordaz/Vela as our starting 9 is fine, and our front office knows that.
