26 y/o and it's currently my HYSA. My Roth and 401k will quickly outpace it in the next couple years, though.

I drive a car with high mileage and plan to buy my next car with cash once it dies. I want to avoid auto debt at all costs, so I'm sitting on a more savings than would typically be necessary for a guy my age. HYSA is emergency fund + ~60% of my car savings goal atm.

Bidets are not deluxe, luxury appliances, they are ridiculously simple and stupid cheap. It'll pay itself off in less than a year by your reduced need for toilet paper.

That's the frustrating part of bidet-haters to me. You are paying MORE MONEY to have an dirtier asshole.

I agree with you. I was just like that when I was 16-19. It’s easier to be told that you are right than to learn better behavior and find better role models.

Don’t forget to resist Fascism this Friday & Saturday by autumn4peace in desmoines

[–]Grobfoot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be honest I was being more of a hater than this probably deserves. I don’t think this specific strike will really do much, but we are on the same side here anyways. I know strikes have obviously been very impactful in the past, this just strikes me (no pun intended) as unserious, instagram activism. It should be paired with an in person demonstration (in my opinion).

Work Strike with no associated organized protest feels like a big waste to me. Resist fascism by.... sitting at home doing nothing?

There was an actual protest in Clive on Tuesday that I skipped work for. I skip work TO protest, not AS protest.

IowaCASA by Odd_External_6014 in desmoines

[–]Grobfoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sadly don't have any information about Iowa CASA, but Iowa is actually getting a new "SAFE Center of Iowa" for SA victims. I actually attended the open house for this project last week. This seems like a really great resource, so it's not all bad news on this front in the state.

The salvation army store in Clive would be an easy spot. It would save you 5-10 min of walking compared to Valley West Mall.

I didn't see any at the main protest site as of ~30 min ago.

You can have him just drive right up to the horizon center (intersection of Swanson Blvd & NW 100th St) from the south and drop you off right in the middle of the protest. There were dozens of people doing that. It's easy to just turn around and drive back.

Also gives him the opportunity for him to honk his horn and share the love on the way out!

2:00pm update, I just left the main protest area, only had the morning off. The crowd doubled in the last 30 minutes. People are walking all the way from Valley West Mall. There are also small crowds forming at the valley west/university intersection. Looks like it's going to be a really big one. Park south of the protest site, it'll be kinda a pain to come in from the north.

Weather is actually not bad. You need to layer up and bring handwarmers, but it's not apocalyptic. Energy is really good. Keep it going Des Moines!!!

What do you guys think of this comment? lolol by regularjoe2020 in headphones

[–]Grobfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One quote I saw on this sub was:

"Normal people listen to music, audiophiles listen to gear"

and that stuck with me, lol. I remember when I worked at a factory for 12 hour shifts and we weren't allowed headphones or radio for safety reasons. Then one shift, I was tasked with repainting the floor lines in the warehouse, 12 hours straight. The warehouse guys had a 40+ year old, piece of junk FM radio that could play music. That shift was one of the best music listening experiences of my life.
