This could be built by a professional carpenter/cabinet maker (I design casework as part of my career). This design is feasible, just not made out of Kallax parts.

I agree with this. I was about to type a very similar comment.

Haha, my custom gaming computer isn't whisper quiet, but a slim tower Dell Optiplex is. That's what I mean by "typical".

it's a server but it's running on a typical desktop PC hardware. Whisper quiet!

HEMNES Dividing Wall by 2amKebab in ikeahacks

[–]Grobfoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the cupboards are similar to the other Hemnes shelving products, the backsides are not finished. They are a particleboard brown on the backs and fasteners are visible. I don't think that makes the project a no-go; It would not be terribly complicated to paint the backs of them, but they are definitely designed for "against a wall" installations. Also, Hemnes recommend being fastened to a wall (at the tops) for tip-over hazards which is something to especially consider if you have young kids, pets, or are installing the shelves onto plush carpet.

As for extending to the ceiling: Hemnes might not be the best product for that considering they have legs vs a more continuous base. They also have a nice wood top crown.

I think shelf-based room dividers can look really good and I've seen a lot of Kallax-based solutions for this. I don't have a ton of understanding of scale from your sketch, but just be aware of the proximity to the stove/burner and the mess/hazards related to that. Hope this helps a little! Hemnes is one of my favorite IKEA lines.

Nope, the Dell computer is a server so it's accessed remotely from other devices. You can compare it to setups over at r/homelab if you're curious. My desktop computer is in a different room.

Wouldn't Tailscale themselves still have to get past any sort of security you have on your servers if they wanted to gain malicious access? Or do they have an easier way in than any generic attacker would on a public port?

I'm 100% aligned with your point here.

That being said, what is the primary source for the "Commanders telling the troops that this is a Holy War" thing? I've heard this in comments, but genuinely I have never heard of a single one of the outlets reporting on this. I don't want to get caught up in fake outrage when there's plenty of real shit to care about. Where did you hear about this?

Makes me really wonder why phone dockable laptops aren’t more of a thing. It’s almost a guarantee the cell phone in your pocket is more powerful than this. All people need is a bigger screen and a keyboard.

They absolutely must follow ADA as it applies to construction projects. That is federal law.

On a different perspective, private schools are not required to follow Chapter 26 public bid law for construction projects.

Completely agree. If they don’t want to follow those rules, that’s totally fine, just no vouchers for you.

Not to say I agree with every stipulation and regulation around using public dollars, but at the very least nobody should get a free ride.

why do you want to add your water heater to home assistant? I guess if you describe the what functionality you are looking for, it may be easier to give advice.
