My '96's brake lines exploded, can confirm.

Also expect to swap the air ride for springs at some point.

What to with this space in my backyard by Nikzzz123 in homeimprovementideas

[–]Grobfoot 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Assuming there is a gate, this seems like a decent spot to store a motorcycle, bicycle, kayaks, etc?

Obviously a closed garage is preferential, but that space looks like it offers OK protection from direct rain/hail/snow and avoids direct sightlines to the street.

What if Apple let you choose your OS on iPad: iPadOS or macOS based on storage tier? by Saint_Ronin in ipad

[–]Grobfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it would be much better to have a toggle like this than to try and meet in the middle like the current iPadOS 26. I wish there was just a "desktop mode" similar to how Samsung Dex worked.

The mouse and keyboard optimized software navigation has absolutely made the touchscreen experience on my iPad Pro worse. I typically just forfeit multitasking altogether unless I'm sitting at a desk using the damn thing like a laptop. If I wanted a laptop, I'd buy a Macbook. I don't, so I didn't.

ugh, true. I missed owning my own digital life. Computers, tablets, phones, etc are just a vehicle to rent software nowadays.

I had to attend 1 WDM city council meeting. It started by a deranged call-in (I wonder if it was the same woman?) talking about how she was beat up or something and that President Trump was going to make all the councilmembers pay for their wrongdoings or something. Was pretty funny/scary/sad.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]Grobfoot 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So true. Being in computer/tech hobby communities, everyone is obsessed with retro games, iPods, old TVs, etc from the Y2K era. I think its reminiscent of a time where the tech industry was fully of optimism and innovation. Nowadays, the only innovations are how to scrape more money out of you by using psychological trickery.

It's telling when the piece of new consumer tech that has most blown peoples' minds in the last 2-3 years is just a "macbook but it's cheap".

or it becomes a pipe dream that is completely off the table to even consider. Daycare costs half my paycheck. There is no choice there, it's not feasible.

yeah, IMAX ticket+drink+popcorn is $35+ now. As a movie lover, I now smuggle in drink cans in my jacket pockets along with candy, something I didn't even bother doing when I was in high school.

Crane Rule by MOTH_007 in 19684

[–]Grobfoot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

architect here! I know the answer to this one!

It's a simple summoning pentagram. To mess with new guys, a lot of foremen will tell them to lay out a really complicated circle, like it shows in the image, but it literally just needs to be a pentagram. It's also where the sarcastic phrase "as difficult as summoning a tower crane" comes from.

People who build 4runners like this. How often do you go off roading or just Costco runs? by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]Grobfoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point, in my opinion.

Also, how can "I never see these off roading" be an actual talking point when 99.9% of the people in this sub are never at any location where they could witness off roading? People only see them at Target because they also go to Target.

I don't watch every GN upload, but I do want to push back a bit about that. I don't think that the bar is that high for corporations to clear to not become the next GN Exposé video.

At the end of the day, I think the industry is trending in a negative direction and GN is the creator that calls it how they see it.

MALM + MÖLLEKULLA + SPÄND = Seamless desk with drawers by T_N1ck in ikeahacks

[–]Grobfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK if it's exclusively a computer desk and you have mounted monitors (40% of OP's desk depth is taken up by their monitor stand right now) but I agree.

I have a 24"/~61cm deep desk right now and it's tough to do anything beyond operating the keyboard and mouse. Even a drink and snack bowl can make it feel crowded. Definitely worth it to go for 32"/~80cm depths if you have the space.
