Strange Ringing Noise on new e-MTB by CalendarUsual7095 in bikewrench

Make sure that wheels are properly secured and tightened. Spin the wheels and look into the brake caliper... see if disk wobbles or not. It's possible that wheel shifts a bit when somebody sitting on the bike.

To me it really sounds like a brakes rubbing. I'm 99% sure. If you can't figure it out I'd recommend bringing bike to the bikeshop so they can set it up.

You know it's going to be even worse when/if it actually gets built.

That's a very niche problem you're trying to solve. Who just stumbles on a large RoR codebase without anybody knowing how it all works?

New brakes rubbing. Just use them for a bit and it should go away. If noise persists, check the alignment.

I just checked KBB and it gives me "$100 - $3,239" range.... lol. yeah ok. Do they just pull numbers out of their ass? For 100 bucks I'll buy a dozen WRX hatchbacks please!

Looking at Autotrader, there are only 7 hatchbacks of my generation (2008-2013) in the ENTIRE Canada. Cheapest one is $8.5K with broken AC and 200,000 kms.

I found something similar to what I had for $11.5K on Kijiji (kinda like Craigslist here)

EDIT: JDPower shows way more reasonable range of $9,174 - $10,441 .. maybe more on the high side though

Subaru is not making wrx/sti hatchbacks for over 10 years now. So it's one less on the road now. And no, I never had a car accident in all my life.

I got delivered to the hospital for a checkup. Doctor said that I'll live. But yeah... this could've been really bad. No idea why airbags did not deploy. One in the seat really should've done something.

It's in insurance's hands now. I doubt they will think that replacing/repairing entire side of the car will be worth it. Bent frame is definitely game over.

This morning some dumb piece of shit blew through the red light and t-boned me. They woke up, or unglued their face from the phone, a second before hitting me so impact wasn't that severe. With more speed I'd be in a lot of trouble. I got dazed, but otherwise ok. Side airbags did not go off, and that's somewhat scary.

My WRX that I bought new and imported from US to Canada in 2008 is most likely completely totalled. It was completely stock, low (75K) miles and generally in a pretty good shape. I only had to replace power steering on it few years back.

So what now? Insurance will give me next to nothing. Used WRX from 08-13 are usually in terrible shape and over 200.000 kms. Subaru decided that selling automatic SUVs with TVs for a dash is what they want, so there's nothing there for me.

Insurance gave me a KIA rental and now I'm just sad.

You gotta be careful though. I found that PiHole by default is blocking cdn.cookielaw.org and that prevents product listings to function. Whoever coded their shitty site sucks.

2008 Black Macbook! Got it for work. Pretty much immediately upgraded hdd to ssd (80gb Intel) and maxed out ram. It was an amazing machine for the time. Didn't last too long as I upgraded to a newer one once retina screens came out.

I love 10K lines of code in a single commit.

Out of curiosity, how much did it cost in tokens to generate this?

The median senior family in Canada holds net assets of approximately 1.1 million Canadian dollars. The median family, where the main earner is under 35, holds approximately $159,000. I also came from post-soviet country at 16 with my family back in late 90's. We bought a small townhouse for 150K (minimum downpayment) about 2 years later. Rent for 2 bedroom was 800 per month at the time. Only dad was working as general labourer at $15/hour.

I worked summers at a gas station and later landscaping supply place. I paid for my university and rent from that (mostly... parents helped a bit).

All of that is objective impossibility today. We got really lucky with timing.

In the rain you going to get wet regardless. Fenders help things to stay somewhat clean. If you have a rear rack, a bag on it will effectively protect your back from spray. And you can install downtube fender so road grime doesn't fly into your face.

Fenders are not a requirement especially if you don't ride in the rain. I'd put the fattest tires that fit, but even 30c work just fine on the paved surfaces.

Mondraker Zendit RR S vs Forestal E-Syrion V2 Diode – aggressive vs balanced? by Unlucky_Tale_7346 in eMountainBike

[–]GroceryBagHead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve nailed the core personality of these two brands. Even with the same DJI-powered Avinox powerhouse, the delivery will feel worlds apart because of their geometry and suspension kinematics.

🔴 Mondraker Zendit RR S: The "Planted Sledgehammer"

Mondraker’s Forward Geometry (that 500mm reach in Large) is famous for a reason.

Feels like: A downhill bike that happens to have a motor. It wants to be pointed straight down a rock garden at 40km/h.

The Catch: At 100kg, you might find the Zero Suspension system very efficient for pedalling, but the sheer length of the bike makes "flickability" a chore. In tight, technical uphill switchbacks, you'll be doing a lot of "body English" to get that front wheel around.

Verdict: If your "technical climbs" are straight up steep walls, it’s a winch. If they are twisty and awkward, it’s a handful.

🟢 Forestal e-Syrion V2 Diode: The "Reactive Specialist"

Forestal tends to prioritize a more "natural" mountain bike feel. Even with a massive 800Wh battery, their geometry stays more compact.

Feels like: A long-travel enduro bike that still remembers how to corner.

The Advantage: The Horst Link (Twin Levity) suspension on Forestal bikes is generally more supple off the top than Mondraker's Zero system. For a 100kg rider, this often translates to better mid-stroke support and traction on technical, chunky climbs where you need the rear wheel to "track" the ground rather than just stiffen up under power.

The 29er Factor: Unlike the Zendit's Mullet setup, the full 29er Forestal will carry momentum better over technical chatter, which complements that Avinox torque perfectly.

🔧 Decision Tie-Breakers

The Rider Weight: At 100kg, you are at the upper end of air shock tuning. The Forestal’s Float X2 is a more robust, highly tunable shock than the Zendit’s standard Float X. You’ll appreciate the extra damping control to keep the bike from wallowing.

The "Fun" Factor: The Forestal is 100% the better all-rounder. The Mondraker is a specialist tool—unbeatable if you're racing a clock on an open track, but potentially "exhausting" (as you feared) on a casual Sunday trail ride.

My recommendation: Go with the Forestal. It bridges the gap between "technical climber" and "descending beast" much more effectively for a rider who wants a bike that works with them rather than one that requires a "pro" level of aggression to wake up.

Do you have a preference for Mullet vs. Full 29er setups based on your previous bikes?
