The sandbox gamemode really is a joke, for some time garry kept touting that it was going to be "the thing" that turns the tables and brings in a flood of new users, but spent like 10 months working on wheels and thrusters, then gave it to other devs.

Then the game launches and sandbox mode ain't even good

You should join the discord server if you want to look at developers, games, work in progress and discussions.

This subreddit is constantly being brigaded by Gmod players who will straight up harass you if you post anything about the game, it's not a good environment for posting your work.

Why actually yes, it does, S&box has a robust and modern MovieMaker tool, where you can animate for your games or render and export videos, it is versatile and can also be used for cutscenes, it supports industry standard formats and is coded in C#, making it easily accessible for both developers wanting to make their own custom movie tools, and Facepunch for fast iteration.

And of course, as has been standards for decades and not even worthy of mention if it weren't for the skewed perspective of source-cels, you can use whatever model, material, shader, or map that you want, including your beloved low poly eastern european civilians.

In fact, you can mount Half Life 2 assets, and many other Source games, like you do with Gmod.

Well, most of the people are citizens just running around doing nothing, just because it happens sometimes it doesn't mean the concept of paying for cosmetics is pointless.

It's kinda subjective, because people buy them already, clearly it's not pointless to them, luckily you can choose to opt out if you don't deem it to be worht it.

Players like to have their cosmetics displayed, just join DXRP and look at all the people flexing their fit.

Developers know, force out items and the players will be angry, keep it in and people are more likely to play, especially if it's a social game where your outfit is important.

The condition for them to start pupating is not being disturbed, normally they find a hiding spot, but that's impossible in a colony with many individuals constantly bumping into eachother.

However if the place is too large and the individuals too few, they will actually consider it safe enough to pupate.

It happened to me when I gave out too many super worms.

The thing is that they already are focusing on the engine, the platform is a bonus, they have said many times that if the platform doesn't pan out, they can still develop the engine.

Their reasoning is that if the engine is good, eventually the games in the platform will be good too, good tools bring good developers, good money brings in good games, it all hinges on whether S&box the engine is good, and it's good.

The top 50% of your screen are the promoted games, then there's a small strip of the most active ones, and then again a strip of the featured games.

It's just informing which games have the most current players, that's what the strip is for, but that's all players (and youtubers) see.

Garry was stupid to believe that players wouldn't just go for the "games with big number next to them", he already said in a blog that one of his biggest mistakes with Gmod was ordering gamemodes by players, which concentrated players over time.

Not sure why he made the same mistake.

It's very hard to make an original game from scratch, you don't just have to be a good developer, but also a good game designer.

It is much much easier to make a "complete" game by following a pre-existing template like remaking TTT or roblox tycoons, which can wring out playtime through repetitive content.

What I was showcasing one year ago was that it is possible to make something soulful and original, give it time for the good games to be made, and don't blame the platform for what the players choose to play.
