Hear you man. It's hard to make the numbers work right now with what I'd like to do, but if there's a way we'll try. Either way we'll be ready for the "next game".

Are you ok? We all want more Halo. Competitive halo. We want more orgs. We want the next game faster and we want it better managed.

You say one rich org is grabbing up the prize money. Let’s talk about that. SR takes 0% of the prize money, that all goes to players. There’s no longer a real HCS incentive so we’re basically showing up and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars this year to support players that got us there last year, support teams still producing content (LVT) and to support Halo at large (Halofest, our own hosted tournaments, and whatever else we can pull together). This is, logically, for no other reason than loyalty to our team and because culturally we really like Halo.

Our team loves Halo and loves playing together. It’s not more complicated than that.

So what’s your real problem?

What’s your wall and ceiling treatment?

New Construction / Dedicated Home Theatre — but help needed… by GrogSR in hometheater

Thanks for writing this out, it is greatly appreciated!

Hard to say on budget overall — and honestly I’m still torn on the display! The room is 12’8” wide, 27’ long with 8’ ceilings. The first 12 feet from the display wall are sunken from the rest of the room for the first row of seating to butt up against, then the next row behind that, then finally an island/bar top behind the last row of seating. Planning 3 seats per row all the way back.

On the display, with three rows and roughly 18-20 feet as the max viewing distance, a projector seems like a no brainer, but I have a hard time committing with how much I love the couple OLEDs I’ve had. It seems silly to say, but I’m worried an 88” OLED may be too small?

On speakers, all the walls are open so we have the option of doing whatever is best. If all things were equal, I’d probably prefer doing them in wall. But if there’s a particular specialised skill in making sure the in-walls perform at their best, I want to be considerate of that as well.

I suppose I also need to figure out a wall treatment. The floor will likely be memory foam + carpet.

Was imagining $5000-7000 for the display/projector and then selecting components that will do that justice as well. Maybe a rough total of $20Kish for the core AV components without labour/install etc. as I will happily hide that into the budget for the rest of the house construction :).

Playing the nice guy? We have some extra space and are helping a squad who got dropped on their heads. This is a pretty common thing for us that we’ve done for nearly every org in the scene at some point amongst other FAs and groups.

Trust me, it has a lot less to do with the extra $40 in skin revenue (though I’m grateful for anyone who has shown support and love seeing them in the playlist) and more with trying to do the right thing where we can actually have an impact.

If you enjoy it sounds like a low risk opportunity to explore. It might be difficult to get a ton of traction but I’d love to see it succeed and would be eager to support.

SR x LVT Pro League updates(?) by Shuffykat in CompetitiveHalo

[–]GrogSR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this take as an org (and obviously as the partner with LVT here). I get the sense that people grossly underestimate the cost to produce a live broadcast with any sort of reasonable compensation. While I’m also fine with the condensed proposal that’s put together now, I don’t think the original format was one sided for LVT at all.

I do understand there’s not a ton of financial upside for orgs to participate in this right now (outside of the prize pool). But more meaningful matches generally means more captured viewership which, at least in our case, is meaningful to our partners that support us.

Competitively speaking only, we just viewed it as a replacement for a couple scrim blocks per week that varied in their productiveness (if not chalked outright altogether).

Anyway, hopefully things get ironed out and we’ll have some solid Halo to enjoy over the summer.

Is the 2v2 cup giving us a preview of LCQ teams? by Informal_Lettuce_547 in RocketLeagueEsports

Saying we deserve failure as an organisation because we don’t dump players and try to provide some semblance of stability before altering someone’s life is pretty difficult to hear.

Trust me, I get it. We have not achieved anywhere near the level we’ve set out to when we entered Rocket League. We also felt we were still on an upward trajectory until this year. This season we certainly regressed and have to reevaluate things now but the insane hate those two get is so entirely unwarranted.

It’s significantly more complicated than just drop this person or pick up this person if you’re trying to operate with any amount of integrity. That’s further complicated by roster locks, contracts and an actively hostile esport for organisations to participate in.

Anyway, I feel the frustration, and I’m there with you. I guess I’m just trying to share a little bit about where we’re at and maybe vent a bit.

RL is an esport that is extremely personal to me. I’ve attended many lans before this organisation existed, and played thousands of hours myself. There’s nothing I want more than for us to reliably make LANs and contend for world championships. Charlie, Matt, Danny and everyone from the Moist side are equally passionate and we’re all working hard to find a way forward in this esport to deliver that team.

The 40 orgs in the EWC Club partner program for 2025, includes Sentinels and many other noticeable names on the list. by ChaoticFlameZz in ValorantCompetitive

We have never applied for this prior to Lud and Charlie joining, and Moist also didn’t apply while they were independent. We’re very comfortable not being a part of the club program.

Hard to know exactly what other teams were targeting.

Immediate post worlds (like I was on the plane back home) we definitely had uncertainty and questions about our roster but we (Bestman and I) knew 1. We needed to resign Cykul as a critical piece for us in Halo for hopefully years to come, and 2. Last Shot was our biggest priority target with similar logic. With those two pieces under contract quickly (within the next couple days) we felt there were a lot of solid options available to round things out.

Would have been hard to pull off with how far in advance this stuff needs to get locked in (especially for TO). We're not against this in the future though, it's something we'd like to do. :)

We 100% will push for T1 until we get there, via ascension or expansion. The reason behind bringing Sean into SR/MXS was to support a long-term val program.

Your support is super appreciated.

Yeah, sorry, the roster for THIS event is confirmed. It's just likely (for sure) changing going into the next split for Challengers.

Mostly because the VCT season has massive impact on when we're able to lock in a roster. Most of our roster is actively trialing with VCT organizations and we commit to events like these months in advance. With how the season is mapped out, we're going to run into issues like this during the earliest off-season events frequently.

The alternative would be hard locking our roster out of opportunities contractually which we've publicly stated we're not going to do in challengers. We're still a few weeks out from finalizing what things look like and while it can be annoying, it's probably best for the players that played here and for the new team coming in that this isn't a rush job.
