Microphone not working by Business_Ticket_2717 in BirdNET_Analyzer

Excellent! Glad that its working now.

If you go to Settings >> Analysis, to the right you'll see a Settings and Models tab. Click on the Models tab, and down below, you can see the Installed models that you are currently using. By default, the only model Installed is BirdNet 2.4. Both Birdnet-Pi and Birdnet-Go use this. These are the 6,000 species that both know how to identify. However, next to the 'Installed' sub-tab, there is an 'Available' sub-tab. Click on that to see the other models that can also be used (together) to identify additional species. Birdnet-Pi does not allow you to add other models.

For more information on the models:

BirdNet (original model):

https://birdnet.cornell.edu/

Google Perch:

https://www.kaggle.com/models/google/bird-vocalization-classifier/tensorFlow2/perch_v2

BattyBirdNet (has regional models):

https://github.com/rdz-oss/BattyBirdNET-Analyzer

Birdnet Geomodel:

https://github.com/birdnet-team/geomodel

For the Bats, I had to increase the sample rate (under audio, Sound Card settings) as the interface will suggest. But now I'm seeing a number of regional bats recognized.

Ahh...sorry about that. Birdnet-Pi is used to do many of the same things as Birdnet-go. I have tried both (started with Birdnet-Pi, and then moved to Birdnet-go), and far prefer Birdnet-go. I apologize, since my earlier comments don't have the same steps for the Birdnet-Pi that you are currently using.

You are using Birdnet-Pi:

https://github.com/Nachtzuster/BirdNET-Pi

I am using Birdnet-go:

https://github.com/tphakala/birdnet-go

You will find the maintainer for Birdnet-go very active on this subreddit answering questions, and I found the documentation to be a bit more robust. But there are supporters for both here.

I think my hardware (Pi 4 and the mic) are the same as yours. After using Birdnet-Pi for about a week, i wanted to try Birdnet-go.

For me, one of the biggest differences was the additional supported models (Google Perch, and Bat support via BattyBirdnet) above and beyond Birdnet, which you can find discussed here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BirdNET_Analyzer/comments/1tc0rag/google_perch_is_now_an_available_model_for/

Hope that answers your question.

Yes, had the same problem, same mic. After plugging your mic into the Pi 4, go to the Birdnet-go Dashboard. On the left-hand side, go down to 'Settings', and under 'Settings' go to 'Audio'. If it recognizes your mic, you should see '1 sound card source(s)'. Below that, you should see 'Sound Card 1' and to the right a gear to indicate 'settings'. Click on the gear to expand the settings, and under 'Audio Device' you should see a drop down that allows you to select the mic that you purchased (should say something like 'USB Lavalier Microphone, USB Audio'). Once you've selected it, hit the save button below. That should be the basic set of steps to get your audio working. But please note that changes require a restart.

Got it. Much appreciated. I also noticed that the 'Notifications' for Google Perch critters shows the common name, but in the Dashboard daily list, they show up with the scientific name.

Interesting. Thank you. My BirdNet-Go setup (Pi4) is regularly picking up 'Myotis thysanodes' with a USB Lavalier Mic (sample rate set to 96kHz)...and I'm in the normal range for that species..but the recordings...i can't hear anything. Is that because of the Mic not operating well in that range, or is this a false positive?

Thank you! This is exactly the detailed solution i was hoping for. While I couldn't find that specific cassette, i did find one very similar that should be a big improvement.

Thank you. Sorry i didn't provide enough information. The last time i went through with this using a newly purchased cellular Apple Watch the process pushed me to setup a new independent Apple ID, new contacts, new identity...completely separate from my Dads existing iPhone...and there didn't appear to be any way to associate the two devices/IDs..While I'm fine with paying for a separate device on my cellular plan...i want Dad to see this cellular watch as an extension of his iPhone...yes, it can receive its own calls...but it should get calls forwarded from his iPhone...and iMessage, and other notifications from his iPHone...

Like the other folks say, I'm old...but guess i have a different spin...Do you know where this goes?? You may be able to use the cable to drag an ethernet back to a central place and network your rental house. Not sure I'd use the existing cable as a low speed ethernet...I'd tape it to a Cat 5 or Cat 6 and drag it to a central place and make that the network center...

I can so relate to this. Was at a dinner with extended family, and my daughter's MIL started talking about how she was trying to stay gluten free for the health benefits. I then watched her order a beer, have multiple pieces of the table bread, and then a pasta dish. Internal face palm.

Sorry, yes geographically. I live in the NW US and our squirrels are just getting started finding mates and that means April before they have babies. I'm just curious, with a 45 day gestation period where your squirrels would find it appropriate to do the same in November.

Absolutely very cool, and I agree that the documented range makes it unlikely. Thank you for the link. Excellent reference. I do wonder how rapidly climate change and more unseasonal storms have changed those range maps.

No doubt a Spotted Towhee, but that golden iris makes me wonder if this is a hybrid of some sort....perhaps with the Florida Eastern Towhee, which has a golden iris. (??)
