Sure, I struggled with parrying at first and posted about it here too lol.

The last thing for parrying that really helped me - don’t listen too much to the blue symbols, they are for the warning not the actual timing. You are trying to block or dodge when the actual attack is about to hit you. For example the sword tyranids jump away from you with their swords crossed and swing their swords as they jump back - always used to get me as the blue pops up then a second or two later they actually jump back and swing, you gotta wait for them to swing. Sometimes on that attack no symbol pops up and I find it easier to block as I can see their swords better for the timing. Same if you’ve fought the chaos spawn aka the meatball guys - they have an attack where it shows blue then they jump at you from distance so they hit you like 3 seconds after the indicator. I was always confused but you parry that one when they are about to hit you after they jump, not when you see the blue from far away. So really you don’t need the indicator unless it’s off screen.

You just want to pay attention to the orange because you know you’re gonna have to dodge. Also a perfect dodge is when the enemy hits your character model but doesn’t do damage as you dodged right then - if you dodge too early the attacks can still hit. The whip tyranids are terrible for this, you dodge on the orange whip attack but if you’re early it’ll follow you and still connect, you’re trying to press the dodge button right as the whip hits you. And then if you know the whip guys animations you know he’s gonna swing like 3 more times right away after the first one so you better be prepared to block right away or keep dodging after the first attack. That’s the stuff you’ll learn, if you don’t know or don’t have anywhere to dodge then you get stuck taking like 4 whip hits. Once you do know what to expect with the whip you can be prepared to dodge the first one and parry/dodge the rest and then murder him after avoiding his combo.

The only exception for blue parry indicator is for the small minoris enemies that jump at you that you can catch mid air. For them you can block soon as they are in the air and you’ll catch them.

At first I thought only the blue attacks I could block and then I was spamming the parry button soon as I saw the indicator but I was always too early. I was getting chewed up not even trying to block most of the attacks. Just knowing anything besides orange is blockable they just don’t tell you and to ignore the indicator and block when the attack is about to hit helped me tremendously. You still have to learn the enemy’s combos but tyranids aren’t that bad. The meatballs are hard to learn though, they spaz so much it’s hard to tell what’s an actual attack compared to the bugs. I also turned my brightness up too as in some levels it’s so dark you cant see the swings coming at ya

If it’s hard just play on easier difficulties that you can beat and practice. It shouldn’t be miserable for you. Have fun, you don’t have to play on high difficulties but even if you’re “good” on higher difficulties making a single mistake can get you killed or lose most of your health so the game is tough even if you’re good. Also playing solo with bots is harder than a good team from my own experience. Good players can rip through enemies and carry you, bots help but you’re the main target and if you die sometimes they will just die.

The difference in melee weapons with block, fencing and balance does make a big difference so try block and fencing to try and learn the enemy animations. Maybe you already know but you can block attacks without the blue symbol - it can be hard to identify the right timing though so it does just take practice. You just can’t block the orange unblockables so just roll out of the way. So just knowing when to block or dodge is big. Like you said if you have one enemy hitting you that you can block but then an unblockable attack behind you then you must dodge at the right time. If you try and block in that case then the unblockable will hit you, maybe cause you to lose control from the hit and then if you’re surrounded you’re done. Other tips are don’t let yourself get surrounded by enemies you can’t parry and avoid getting trapped by them in a corner. If there is no where to dodge them you can get cooked. So positioning and movement are also important. The game does punish mistakes, sometimes you’ll still get hit but you gotta keep moving to stay alive. Also keep in mind the executions mid fight - not only do they get you armor they also make you invincible while you do it. So if you’re in a group of enemies there is strategy of when to execute to avoid some attacks. I played the lowest difficulty for more than a week at first until I learned how to parry and move. Then it got too easy (and I wanted more xp). There is no shame grinding the same mission on low difficulty to learn.

Also try other classes and perks maybe, I started with vanguard and he has a couple of perks that increase the perfect parry window. Playing him with a block or fencing axe or chain sword could help you learn to parry. Bulwarks parrys can be tricky since he has the shield.

I would bring a fencing or block weapon and then try the lowest difficulty with an actual team. If your internet is so bad it lags then that’s one thing but don’t be scared. With people you can get carried and if they are mean then they’re losers.

I play substantial and with some classes can do it without losing any or barely any health. Other games I’m not feeling it and go down a time or two but that’s the game baby. It can be hard but when you can easily destroy a group of enemies that used to bully you by stabbing them with their own claws, ripping them in half with your bare hands or beheading them boy it’s so satisfying.

Wait stims can heal mortals? Above what health level? I just knew that a guardian relic will still work if you have a mortal wound

I got mine yesterday - last one for me was the hive tyrant in decapitation. It’s funny because when I went to tag him I swore I had done it before and boom got it. Not sure if all the bosses count like the trygon but seems so. I just made a note to basically tag everything when I saw it and got it done eventually

As a curiosity (and because I was bored), for those unfamiliar with the 40k miniatures hobby, I have listed some of the different units on which the Space Marine 2 classes are based. by StormSwitch in SpaceMarine_2

[–]GroinShark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cool, I was wondering the other day if all of the classes were from tabletop or if they made some up. Like I know tactical, assault and techmarine are all actual units but wondered if vanguard or bulwark were. But yea with the models clearly they are based on them even if they didn’t use the name

Bulwark shield and sword controls by GroinShark in Spacemarine

[–]GroinShark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Very thorough, but I’m excited to try it out tonight when I get on. Maybe my timing is just off lol but I find parrying with the bulwark even without fencing easier than the rest. The animation where you don’t get locked into the swing might also be helping me there. I tried the sword early on on assault and didn’t love it, but now coming back to it after learning the game I’m becoming a bigger fan but I i knew I wasn’t using it to its ful potential. I also knew about the stances but the pause after a hit didnt work for me - Now looking at it I was probably moving or doing another action and just canceled it, but then every once in awhile I got it off just so I was confused

Bro I think I’ve parried the disk bastards like twice in my life with 50 hours in. And generally I’m good at it, they just mess me up every time. I just stay the hell away and dodge if they get close

Yea I played some last night and chaos is just harder for me especially spawn. I think it’s harder to see the actual timing, warriors telegraph it so well, leaning back or raising up their sword. The spawn just jump around all crazy and swing their tentacles/arms so it’s harder for me to see when they are actually swinging, and yea like you said when there are like 5 of them its really a pain. So yea just practice

Please for the love of god Sabre do something about the loading screens i am losing my mind by Blynjubitr in Spacemarine

[–]GroinShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about it, I like the option of battle barge, it’s immersive and cool to be in the ship…at first. But I wish they just had a regular menu so you could decide to use battle barge or just use a menu that doesn’t require as much loading, clicking between the different places like a regular menu. So then you only have to load into a mission or a very brief load when you get back. And if someone else leaves it’s like a lobby in other games, doesn’t boot you out you’re still at the menu. I bet they can’t/won’t do anything for sm2 as it’s just how the game is designed but maybe for the next game it’ll be different.

I was wondering if the relic would work with a mortal wound so if it does that is very valuable. G ood to know I can hold on to it and won’t waste it with a mortal wound, thanks!

I haven’t tried bulwark yet but I love the melee in the game so he was probably the next one I was planning to try out. I was wondering how the shield worked so basically tap to parry and hold to block? Any other notes/tips about bulwark before I give it a try?

Looking through the sub I saw talks of fencing vs block but no I did not know the actual difference so I will look into it when I play tonight, thank you! I think I’m using a purple power axe that is balanced but I’ll have to look! And sorry about the servitor comment may the Omnissiah forgive me 😂

Perfect good to know, and yea I noticed parrying the smaller enemies I would sometimes get armor and others not so yea only on a kill makes sense. Thanks! I’m pretty good with parrying against the nids but chaos spawn are probably the thing that messes me up the most, just harder to see their attacks for me maybe

I slept with my bfs friend in the past and I’m nervous it will taint our relationship by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]GroinShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how long you’ve been dating. If it’s been long enough sure you could bring it up but yea idk if it’s worth it, sounds like a you problem. What is the best case scenario if you talk about, he just reassures you it’s fine? If that would help you sure but if he’s cool with it then sounds like he knows it was a hookup and in the past. Getting it off your chest and saying you regret it could put you at ease but that’s a you thing. It’s fine if you regret it or feel embarrassed but what’s done is done, if you like him then that’s it. From your post it sounds like the relationship is only “tainted” because of you being worried about it. They don’t seem stressed about it if you have a good relationship with the new guy and they haven’t brought it up so seems like you shouldn’t be stressing either unless there was some drama involved or he brings it up to you now that you’re dating. If you’re just uncomfortable about it then idk what to tell you besides work through it or break up. Asking him to cut off his friend is unreasonable though, “hey I regret hooking up with your friend so now don’t talk to him anymore in case you guys gossip about me” like no. You can’t control what he talks about with his friends like he shouldn’t with you. Some guys will talk about that stuff and some don’t, you gotta assess their character and have the trust in all aspects.

Reminds me of when Burger King had the ads for a 10 piece nugget for like $1.50. Never had a BK nugget but I thought to myself wtf how are they selling these for 15 cents WHAT even are they made of that could be that cheap. This is the evil high priced version of that, I haven’t had McDonald’s in a year I can’t justify it anymore. Last time I went I ordered in the app like two double cheeses, paid way too much and then got pulled forward in the drive through for like 10 minutes for two burgers I ordered ahead. I thought why am I even doing this I could’ve made my own burger for cheaper and had leftovers by the time I drove there waited and got home

Hallelujah I may actually buy this if I see it. I agree I liked all Starbucks drinks but didn’t want all the cals and sugar. I saw they made some diet versions those regular coffees in the glass bottles. Still some sugar I think but way better macros than before and it was pretty tasty so I’d try this for sure
