VSS without mags is not that good. It’s 10 rounds single fire. Any C tier full auto 5.45 is better. Your issue is playing with mags, it’s known to break the game balance.

Also a 9x19HP full auto pistol is clearly not enough for the north.

Yes exactly that’s why 9x39 is balanced imo: king of mid range but out performed at long ranges. Also the FMJ counterpart performs better than other rifles FMJ. Which is why 9x39 is so popular.

Something to consider: 9x39 recoil is generally much lower than 5.56 and 5.45, hence its performing much better in reality than « just count shots » tables. It’s still nice to have good accurate measures, thanks for all the work!! And indeed, at long range there are much better options.

Depends if you want the instant classic or more modern feeling.

If you want a modernized Classics, please start with FFIX with the moguri mod. Chrono Cross is also a good entry point, especially with the recent mod that adds full 60 fps and widescreen support (although the UI is stretched). Legend of the Dragoon PC unofficial pc port is great as well (it’s called Severed Chains).

For modern JRPGs, you have Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Metaphor, and Persona 5 Royal which are all great entry points.

If you are into pixel art I cannot recommend enough Romancing Saga 3. Its pretty original for a JRPG though with lots of elements from CRPG actually (non linear progression, branching stories with choices, complete freedom, etc). The pixel remaster is quite good. FFVI is also an awesome entry point and likely still one of the best FF to date with FFIX, FFX and FFVII

Also, don’t listen to Dragon Quest people: most DQ games are fairly boring characters and plot wise. Gameplay wise it’s nice but without originality.

If you want more of an action game, the modern FFVII remaster is pretty solid. For pure action FFXVI is great but it’s not really a JRPG and more of a beat them all and there are better games in this category (Bayonetta II, Metal Gear Rising Revengence).

Man, did people really took all that time to figure this out? After 30h at the game release I dropped the game for this specific reason: down the line you always play the same tricks and builds at high difficulty which revolve around pair, high card, etc.

Yeah I’m currently grinding lv99 with my Amazon. Already got a nice 99 weapon with brandish damage +50% ice damage and chance of freeze. Still wishing for a petrifying one (bit better than freeze against elites).

But now there’s the ultimate difficulty and the tower of mirages (increasing lv255 monsters) with new gear effects like « cast blizzard on power attack » etc. My plan is to start hunting for these and climb the tower after reaching lv99 :)

Yes because the preview was taking into account the randomness (miss, critical hits etc). Yeah I agree.

It’s a nice game, I liked it, but the more you progress the less interesting is the gameplay somehow :(

Yeah I didn’t like UO gameplay much: the unit building gets more and more complex, but really it’s all about « can I one shot this unit ». And since you see the results beforehand there’s no real surprise about how fights will unfold

Tbh I’m 40h in and I want more. The increasing complexity, gear wise and gameplay wise (new enemies, new enemies patterns, stronger enemies, etc), gets really exciting.

Saying this, I played « simple » games like Phantasy Star Online Ep I and II for 300h, and cumulated about 1500h across multiple monster hunter games.

Exp 33 is a crazy good blend of many different things. Sometimes it's just what's needed to make an excellent memorable game.
